Review: You have a wide choice of menus from al la carte, and three or more tasting menus with vegetarian menus as well. We went for a 3 course lunch time tasting menu and it will not disappoint. A really nice warm feel and very relaxed atmosphere. Great attention and service from all. You also don't feel crammed in even though this is a a medium sized place and some good seating options which is good for business, friends, etc. Very understated exterior but you are led into a little taste of colonial india where you feel the viceroy is on the table next to you but with the London weather outside. Artwork is traditional but sparks some attention and I think all restaurants should invest in great artwork to make you really feel special so a nice touch. Food was fresh and a clean pallet with nothing too overpowering. Sometimes you need a party on your pallet and sometimes you just need a cleaner and clear taste and this is the perfect place for a clean and clear tasting menu. All food is well presented and some nice accompaniments.
Decor & Lighting: Great mixture of a colonial style with dark woods and traditional artwork on the walls and small but well stocked bar, i believe there is a second bar downstairs. Not too bright and not too dark so just right.
Ambience & Acoustics: High ceilings and hard surfaces make this place a little noisy. When it comes to having a conversation you make have to speak up a little more than usual conversation but you don't have to shout. Suggest the booth seating and sitting next to the person you want to converse with will solve this issue.
Drinks: Non-Alcoholic Cocktail - Ganjan (Fresh lemongrass, passion fruit, orange, pineapple ): Nice refreshing drink and main taste was passion fruit which I personally like so I enjoyed it.
Food
Samosa Mutter Chaat (honey yoghurt, sev, papdi, dried peas): Nice warm samosa and with a nice tangy yoghurt base, a great start to the meal and a good size with two small pyramid samosa parcels.
Tellicherry Pepper & Garlic Soft Shell Crab (damson chutney & garlic chips): Now I dont usually eat sea food but I gave this a go and came looking like a full crab wish was a nice touch. Crispy batter with soft crab and to me tasted like cod.
Kasundi Paneer Tikka (mint & raw papaya chutney): Small portion but a nice soft panner tikka with a traditional taste.
Tulsi Chicken Tikka (sweet basil, pickled radish & raita): Two nice pieces of well cooked chicken with a great traditional tikka marinade but a nice fresh and plentiful sauce witch adds some spice to the dish but perfectly compliments. What also makes this that bit special is the thick fluffy raita and the pickled radish which if just mentioned on the menu I would not normally order this but it was worth it and these little touches make the dish unique and different.
Kori Gassi (home-style Mangalorean chicken drumsticks curry): A good size portion with plenty of tomatoes based sauce and two drumsticks with the chicken falling off the bone. Wish I had space to eat more, mild dish but works well as part of the tasting menu so it is not all overpowering.
Palak Paneer (cottage cheese, spinach, tomato, fenugreek & fresh chilli): Very traditional item but cooked well and fresh and again the perfect side for the tasting meal as it add that different flavour to accompany the mains.
Dhungar Dal: Traditional yellow dal which was fresh and perfectly flavoured. Again a clean traditional taste.
Dessert
Carrot Halwa Tart (heritage carrots, orange, pistachio): A nice crispy base and not to heavy on the carrot with a nice nutty and chocolate taste and not being a fan of carrot I still enjoyed this but again being full I need to revisit. It is serve with a small portion of rose kulfi which I must say is probably the best I have ever tasted and its also served in their sister restaurant Bombay Bustle where I recall having to order two portions with three scoops as it was so good.
Chilli Chikki Lava Chocolate Fondant (cinnamon kulfi, caramelized pecans): A lovely cinnamon kulfi which would make this a great dessert on its own being light and the perfect hint of cinnamon but adding the soft chocolate fondant with warm filling was divine, I will go again and try just the dessert to really give this justice. Could not taste the chilli however.
Bill / Cost: £105.00 for two
Conclusion: I enjoyed the service and feel and the wide selection of food options will keep everyone happy. Also you are given options you don't see in all Indian restaurants which is a bonus so you can get to try some new dishes. Nothing however was overly spiced and some dishes maybe could have been a little more adventurous but i would still say a great easy on the pallet lunch with great portion sizes so you don't have to have dinner. read more
