I've been to this place dozens of times over the past 8 or so years and they are consistently good. My most recent trip was the first time in 2.5 years (I don't live in London and Covid has kept me away sadly) and it's still solid. Talking with the owner, I learned that supply chain issues have affected their menu a bit...but most of my favorites were still there. Chicken kali mirch and saag bhaji are always faves. Was looking for a nice Indian place for a Friday night dinner. After calling many est India has availability. The food was good. Lots of taste lots of flavor. I started with the Papri chaat which was nicely appointed and flavored. Keena pav next which was ok. Not a lot of flavor or taste. I would not do it again. Kashmiri lamb chops appetizer was fantastic. Tender and fresh made to perfection. Your taste buds will explode. Railway lamb curry was my closing dish and was excellent. tl;dr great Indian food in a cozy and modern space, no BYOB = peaceful ambience I didn't know this, but it turns out most Indian places in the UK are BYOB. Sometimes though, you just want to enjoy good Indian food without the associated racket of noisy people really, really enjoying their alcohol. This place offers that respite. The general consensus is that the food met our high standards. The Samosa Chat was very flavorful and well spiced, probably our favorite part of the meal. The Bhindi dish was as good as other places I've had. The Lamb Curry (forget which one, it was creamy and very curry-like in consistency), was not what I expected - it was like a spicy version of Tiki Masala, which is fine, but I prefer more substance in my curry. Nevertheless it was very tasty, and the lamb chunks was cooked just right. Finally, the Peshwari Naan was delicious, I love a little sweet to go with my savory curries. The only caveat is that, especially as an American, we find the prices to be a little dear. We still think it is worth it though. read more

I was here with my mom on a trip from the US. We live in a very big Indian community near DC, but surprisingly my mom had never had Indian food. Given that I heard that Indian food was great in london, I wanted to give it a go. We first went to Mango Indian, but because they could not seat up in a reasonable time they sent us to Est.India down the road. It did not disappoint. My mom had the chicken korma and I had butter chicken. We also ordered garlic naan and lahsooni baingan, which was amazing. Everything tasted great and the staff was very accommodating and nice. I started off the meal asking what they would recommend for my mom and the waiter offered a great suggestion that considered her level of spice tolerance and taste. He was clearly concerned she would not be happy and she was actually very happy with the food. I thought service was outstanding and I left happy and full! read more

Love this place. Amazing food, good service and reasonable prices. We started our meal with veggie samosas, spicy! I ordered the lamb tiki masala, hot! It wasn't as hot as I wanted it but it was still good and flavorful. My husband ordered the chicken tiki masala, mild. He tolerated it well. He's not a fan of Indian food but he did like his entree. Came to this Indian restaurant on the south side of center London and was rather impressed. No doubt about it, when in London, it's all about the chicken tikka masala. At first, it smells like the crappy jarred mess one would buy back in NYC but it tastes much much MUCH better. Full of spices and packs quite a spicy kick making it nothing like I ever had back home. Just as good was something called Rail Car Lamb. The saag was spicy and delicious as well. Portions aren't so big and everything is a la carte so you can rack up a hefty tab here and service, though cold, was courteous. Will definitely be back and recommended. read more

After a night out drinking with my team decided to pop in once more. A modern stylish restaurant with a decent menu and a professional website. Was busy at 10 pm when we landed which was a good sign. We ordered the Kebab platter and Pappadams for starters and they were pretty good and nicer than last times. Were delicately cooked. We then ordered the mains - Methi Chicken (fenugreek), Kerala Chicken, Dal Tadka and Gobi Mattar (Cauliflower and Peas) and an assortment of Indian breads and rice. All dishes were of good lip smacking quality This time we went for the Gulab Jamun (Indian Desert) and it was warm and fresh, just the way I like it. Ordered via Deliveroo Bhindi Masala, Kadai Paneer, Bhatti Ka Murgh, Malai Jhinga with 2 Rotis and Rice Taste: Da Bomb!!! The okra (bhindi) was spiced just right as was the paneer. Tasted home made rather than the greasy, creamy restaurant food. The chicken had a different spice compared to usual tandoori spices, but it hit the spot. Usually Rotis are small and become hard by the time you get them. These were hot and layered. Yum!!! The pilau rice was lightly spiced and went well with the two entrees. Had just a day trip to London with my boyfriend who was visiting. We knew getting Indian cuisine was a must before leaving and while we were hustling to find some grub before our bus to take us back to our hotel. We stumbled across this place. Going into the restaurant was a nicely dim-lit ambiance and it was clear many tables were already on reservations for the night but luckily we were able to be seated. Service was good! Waiters & Waitresses were respectful and attentive to us while still giving us all the time we needed to decide on our entrees. My boyfriend settled on Chicken Tiki Masala and I went with their Lamb Curry. We checked in on yelp which allowed us a free appetizer (Garlic Nan) which was great! I always like to go out for a curry when I'm in the UK because it's usually phenomenal, and Est. India was no exception. We met up with a friend living in London on his recommendation (always ask the locals). I had the kerala curry with lamb (£9.45). It says chicken on the menu, but they were able to make the swap, no problem. The lamb was tender and the curry was so flavorful, with wonderful spices and just the right amount of heat (for me). My husband had a spicier dish, but I still found it delicious. Our friend had the jalfrezi, which he said was the best and hottest jalfrezi he's ever had. We also ordered basmati rice (£2.50) and garlic and coriander (cilantro) naan (£2.95) to go along with the curries. The rice was good, but not really necessary because the naan was filling and possibly the best garlic naan I've ever had. It was perfect. So, order more naan instead of rice! Service was good and non-intrusive; make sure you ask for the bill or you'll be sitting there awhile. We made reservations for a weekday at 6:30, but it looked like there were plenty of seats. You know when you're out and receive an amazing starter, your expectations for main skyrocket, This is one of this places - and they don't fail to deliver. Served up a tasting plate, 5 tasty morsels, great for the indecisive (guilty), accompanied by crunchy fresh pappadum, Deliciously chewy naans, and ample sauces & chutneys for dipping and wiping. Ordering a selection of curries for mains, all of which were amazing in quality, generous is serve and tasty with a depth of flavour that wasn't just blow the head off spice. The waiter was able to tell out needs for a dessert and brought out some tasty treats for us to end the night on. I was saddened the didn't have my favourite indian dessert but the sweet balls and carrot dish were sweet and tasty, without feeling like we downed a plate of sugar. My non fish eating friend was surprised he was eating a piece of fish and happily, which is quite the coup. The service was solid top to bottom and had a nice selection of beers, although we went with the standard giant "cobra". This place was much larger, looked cleaner, and it was much less busy so if you're in a similar pickle, I suggest you do the same. We shared everything. We got an order of papadums, meat samosas, chicken jalfrezi, a side order of lentils, and a side order of the aubergine. Oh, and of course we got some garlic and coriander naan. Every dish was delicious. The chicken was quite spicy, which we appreciated, but also seasoned really nicely. The aubergine was tender and delicious. The lentils were flavorful. The naan was fluffy. And the samosas, which were done with phyllo dough (which I haven't really seen before) were possibly my favorite dish of the meal. The staff are really friendly and the service is quick. Atmosphere decent so an extra star. I'm beginning to understand the difference with U.K. Indian food, much like American Chinese food. It is not authentic Indian by far, but perhaps it has been around to satisfy Caucasian tastes long enough to be considered its own cuisine, which i very much do not enjoy. The quintessential British Indian dish is the chicken tikka masala. Here, it tasted like canned Campbell tomato soup, barely any extra spices, just sweet thick tomato sauce. I grew up with real Indian spices in the metro Vancouver area. I've had better tikka masala curry from hippy grocery stores in Seattle. My coworker's non tomato based curry was much better and the chaat appetizer was decent. The tikka masala is U.K. Indian food and maybe that's just how it is. read more

This unprepossessing restaurant in a neighborhood not well travelled by visitors to London, unless they have been to the Tate Modern, is is worth the detour in a big way. I have eaten plenty of Indian food in my life but the take here on some pretty standard fare is remarkable. I can only speak to two dishes, the ubiquitous sagg bahji (chopped spinach with spices) was unlike any I've tasted, not wet and slippery but dryish and filled with flavor, garlic and cardamon being the only ones recognized. The chicken kali mirch (apparently a new dish for them) is stunning and rich in a cream sauce with tomatoes masala, lots of black pepper, crushed cashews and onions. With chutneys (also great for what they are) pappadoms and a bottle of beer, it costs around £23 ($30), a stunning bargain for for what you are receiving. Bravo! read more

Looked after and treated well. The influence of Persia and Iran is heavily felt here. |This fits well with the name as Iran had established itself in India. The railway curry is the clear example of this. This dish was very familiar to an Iranian dish of Khoresht (stew) with Aubergine. The rich tomato sauce with potatoes was very nice and with the lamb cooked in the sauce, it pulled apart so easily. I am a big fan of the Iranian dish and this one too, bringing back memories of my parents cooking. The dish that we all really liked was the special concoction developed by the manager. The mix between jalfrezzi and the bhutani was really good. The aromatic flavour came from frying the onions first and this with a creamy sauce and big bites of chicken were very pleasant. The richness and depth from the spices were a key reason to enjoying this dish. The extra heat from the Jalfrezzi side of things were what my dad especially liked and made sure this dish was well liked by all three of us. read more

The food was ok although a bit spicey. My problem was that they asked you if you wanted still or fizzy water. I assume that still meant tap water, but no, they gave you generic bottled water and proceeded to charge you for it. I should have known to specifically ask for FREE tap water. They also asked if you wanted Papadom, again without mentioning it costed extra. Just let your customers know if something is an added fee, that's all. read more
