I was super excited when I realized this place was opening up. Loved the idea of having another Jamaican spot close to home. We stopped in for quick dinner pick up to go, well cause it had been long day and I just needed comfort food. The place is nice and clean, set up mostly for pick up but there are several tables to sit enjoy the meal. The menu offers the typical Jamaican fair, curry, brown stew, jerk and oxtail. We got the the oxtail and brow stew chicken to go. The prices are little high compared to portion of what you get in Hartford. Now the food, it tasted really good but we felt the spices and flavor was little bit lacking. The spices were as spicy or pronounced as we were used to. Not sure if it was just different style but it didn't hit the spot as we were hoping. The cabbage greens was the best part. But again we are comparing to what you get in Hartford. So for now, I will be going to Hartford for my fix but I will be back to try again. They had just opened so another try won't hurt. read more

Tried this on a whim early on when restaurants were only doing takeout. Food was delivered hot and fresh. I've become obsessed with their jerk chicken and pork sandwiches, and beef patties. I can't say much for the rest of the menu but these 3 items alone make me come back or suggest it when we order out. The inside is smaller so I don't know how much sit down business you can do there, but go pick up and take it home, you won't be disappointed. Their website for ordering food is a bit wonky, they list the jerk sandwich as a sandwich/wrap and have a picture of it as a wrap, but no way to choose if you want it as a sandwich or wrap. I call each time to clarify. Would be nice to clean that up so it's easier. read more

I was very happy to find this restaurant experience in Vernon. I moved out of CT to a region with no Caribbean food. I miss this very much. This was fantastic food. I had pork, chicken, rice, all the trimmings. Great jerk sauce, great oxtail gravy. Topped it off with a beef patty. I went with the medium spice, it was tasty. A little heat and a lot of flavor. The service was exceptional, with the Chef coming out to talk with us. I sampled the goat soup, good stuff. The surprise: Chef's home made hot sauce. Not for the feint of heart, this stuff was hot as hell, but a lot of flavor. I will be back. In the meantime I have one order of jerked pork I smuggled into North Country! read more

I grew up in Jamaica and I'm super picky about Jamaican places, and this one wasn't any different. I decided to try this place after hearing people rave about it. I was less than impressed. The rice had no flavor, not shelly at all (actually kind of mushy), and the jerk chicken was just OKAY. Jerk does not mean burned... the employees were nice though and the establishment was clean. I'm actually really surprised they have great reviews. If you live in Vernon and don't want to make the drive to one of the several better places in Hartford, this will suffice. When this place first opened their business, they were serving up good food with flavor, but know they have been in business for awhile, the food has not been the same. Where do they come up with the idea of cutting the oxtails in half, every Jamaican knows that , oxtail is mostly bone and less meat, after all it's only the cows tail. Plus you need to steam your cabbage with some kind of taste. Small size order for $13.94 is a disgrace. And using the name Jamaican Kitchen. Is so not a Jamaican kitchen, your grandma would be ashamed of that food let alone the taste. Will not be going back there, or any referrals. read more

So good! What a pleasant surprise to find s Jamaican restaurant in Vernon. Moved to Az three years ago. No Jamaican restaurant near me in the desert. This place is wonderful. Went in last evening and had the medium sized jerk pork plate with rice and steamed cabbage. I requested the server to pour some additional jerk sauce over everything and I'm glad I did. The pork was tender and flavorful, and the same can be said for the rice and cabbage. I finished off my meal with an in house prepared coconut patty, heaven! Stopped in on a long road trip looking for gluten free food for my wife. The very nice gentleman behind the counter was kind enough to call the owner/chef to confirm what was available and discuss options with her. We settled on great curry chicken (GF) and delicious jerk pork - really, really good food! If you're looking for something better than typical road food, stop in and try some awesome Jamaican. This place is consistently amazing. The service is super friendly and the food is great! It's becoming my go-to for take out. I usually get the oxtail or the curry goat. The oxtail is wonderful and the curry goat is so good! The curry goat might be a bit salty for some, but I love salty food. I'd highly suggest getting the cabbage along with any meal, it's free and really balances the flavor. Oh, and their beef patties are great! They seem to have a lot of great vegetarian options. This spot is just what I needed!! I recently relocated home to CT after living in AZ for fifteen years where West Indian cuisine is non existent. Walking into this place was like finding a piece of heaven!! Staff is friendly and warm and food is just like I remembered it. Had the curry chicken which was tender and had the right amount of spice and heat, rice and beans and cabbage were the perfect accompaniment !! Just awesome. Jerk chicken is delicious and served with rice and beans and has good spice without killing you. Pepper steak has a more mild flavor with a brown sauce and is equally delicious. Was in a mood for a hole in a wall, tasty venue. My little ones shared a medium sized pepper steak with rice and plantains. I had the chicken stew with rice, beans, plantains and cabbage which was also very tasty and my husband had the jerk chicken. Got Jamaican chicken meal. Rice and beans was good. Cabbage also. Nothing to rave about ... but good. Chicken was a horror show. Got 2 chicken wings with the tips, no drum sections. Very small piece of breast part, 1/2 chicken thigh sawed in half, and a chicken back. Chicken was old and dried out. It had a lot of bone fragments from the saw to cut them up into serving size pieces ... NOT COOL!!! Total disappointment. Place has gone down hill from 04/21/2021.
