    Jerk Chicken (large)

I stopped by here this past Wednesday evening for dinner by myself. I found out about Anthony's via Yelp whenever I was looking for a place that was nearby. A takeout Jamaican place, sure, that sounds delicious! So I headed over there. Anthony's sits in a strip mall and so is not much to look at from the outside. The inside isn't much better with seating for 8 or 10, a counter to order and some coolers with drinks. For dinner on this day I went with a large jerk chicken. Between the time that I had ordered and the time that my food was ready, not more than 5 minutes could have passed. So I took my food and headed to my car where I tried some of the jerk chicken before heading home. It wasn't the hottest meat temperature wise but it certainly was juicy! The flavor of it was also great with a lasting spiciness that wasn't melt your face but let you know it was there. Whenever I finally made it back to the hotel I was able to taste more of the chicken. All of it had a great spice level and was tender and moist which left me happy. It came with a side of steamed vegetables and white rice with some type of gravy on it. While the gravy was good the rice was just ok and I really could have made it without any of the steamed vegetables. The bottom line is that I would head back here again in the future. I really enjoyed the jerk chicken and only wish that I could have had fried plaintains as one of my sides.

I took out dinner from here. Prices were reasonable, and food was flavorful. I took 1 piece barbecue chicken to try. That was my favorite from here. It was moist and slightly sweet and flavorful. Jerk chicken and beef patty were good as well. Fried dumpling sounds good, looks beautiful, but tastes plain - not my favorite.

I was in the mood to try something new so I decided on Jamaican food to share with a friend. Ordered a large portion of jerk chicken, 2 coco breads, a chicken patty and beef patty off of UberEats for about $21 total. Jerk chicken - I ate everything; it was tasty! I couldn't finish all of it in one sitting so I ate half and saved the other half for later. I ate it like a few hours later and just heated it up in the microwave and still tasted good. Coco bread - I really loved the coco bread!! I wanted to eat the two that I bought but I shared the other with my friend. Chicken/beef patties - The outside was flaky while the inside was warm and tasty !! Not sure about the chicken one since my friend ate it but he said it was good! The amount you get for what you pay for is worth it. I'm not an expert on Jamaican food, again, this was my first time trying it, but I genuinely enjoyed everything. Sorry I didn't take a picture of the coco breads and chicken patty. Next time I'll most likely try the jerk pork and curry chicken.

I was the first customer of the day to stop in. I was a little confused when I walked in the door and the cashier looked at me, I said hi, she said nothing and walked into the kitchen. Then she came back out very friendly. But I picked up a beef patty and cocoa bread which were very tasty. And she turned out to be very polite and friendly. The place was very clean and smelled wonderful. I'd stop by again when in the area.

This place is so fantastic. I got coco bread which was extremely soft and fluffy with a slight amount of sweetness. I could eat it alone every day but it was so good with the beef patty in between. We also tried the oxtail and the jerk chicken. They were both savory and so tender. The chicken was cooked so well- it was really juicy and moist with a slight spicy kick. The meals came with rice which was flavorful and cabbage which was also very good. I also tried some chocolate cake which was sweet, sticky, and tasty. The restaurant itself is small with no seating (takeout only) and is almost always busy/bustling. Highly recommend Anthony's Jamaican restaurant!

Very disappointing. The jerk pork was over-salted and over-cooked. Maybe 20% of the pork chunks were tough, chewy and inedible. Plus there was a big slab of fat in my take-out container. At first I thought it was a plantain, but no -it was a gelatinous ribbon of fat. Yuck to the tenth power. I'm no expert on Jamaican food, but I've been to well over a dozen Jamaican restaurants. I can confidently say this was one of the worst Jamaican plates I've ever had. Not even the cool photo of Bob Marley behind the counter could change my mind that this was a 2-star experience. Because if "Meh, I've experienced better" is the benchmark for 2 stars, that seems right on the mark. I sure have experienced better.

Passing by and decided to stop in to check out the vegetarian options. Ended up with rice & beans w/steam veggies. Very pleased. Yummy for sure. Food tastes real. Lots of locals ordering as well so everything else must be good too. Staff was very patient and friendly - answered all my ingredient questions with a smile ! Worth the trip off the highway.

From the warm welcome upon my entry, to the cleanliness of the restaurant right on down to the food that I received, it was all a win and so let us officially begin. Now I had arrived too early to receive any jerk wings and that hurt my heart a little. Jerk Wings, Jerk Chicken in general is just a strong staple in the Jamaican Food Space along with some ferocious rum cake and for the dessert offerings, I was off by one day but I will not hold that against them. I went with the brown stew chicken (medium), 2 drinks, 2 dumplings and some velvet cake all for $27 and to be honest, I think that is a fair price point for everything. My brown stew chicken had the nerve to be scrumptious!! Tender and Soft, like a Woman! I was in love upon first bite. I sank my teeth into that chicken and it fought my soul upon impact. The flavors of sweet seduction, savory symphony and tantalizing treason the way my tastebuds betrayed me; was more than enough to find comforting peace on this bite alone. I closed my eyes as I was chewing away, remembering all of the greatest moments in my life, fusing together and then I came back to the light. The chicken broke apart within my mouth before I could even chew it Family!! The rice is just rice...brown rice cooked into a selective softness that when mixed with the brown stew gravy, send you into a whirlwind of joy immediately and I am not big on veggies, but they worked out a balance in my meal that helped me to better understand as to why I should start loving veggies. My dumpling had a good crisp about it but so soft with minimal buttery fluff and it was of a decent size too. Looks just like a big ol corn muffin in its finest hour, dressed for the occasion. You could sop this dumpling up into the brown stew and find that your life is complete once you bite into it. This leaves us at the rich velvet cake. Creamy and decadent - sweet and understanding. "You can get it if you really want But you must try, try and…read moretry Try and try, you'll succeed at last" (Jimmy Cliff) When I walked into the Jamaican Kitchen, I was greeted by reggae music on their sound system. I was pretty sure I knew who was singing, so I asked Milton, the super friendly gent behind the counter, "is that Jimmy Cliff?" He gave me a big smile and seemed pleased that I recognized the Jamaican superstar. We were now best buds! The Jamaican Kitchen is a local chain with locations in Vernon, South Windsor, Windsor Locks, Bristol, Rocky Hill and Enfield. I've already visited their Windsor Locks restaurant (and had a fantastic experience there), and I have to tell you that yesterday's visit with Milton at the South Windsor location was just as good. I wanted to start my meal off with a Jamaican Pattie, and that turned out to be quite a challenge because there are nine of them on the menu. I decided on a Spicy Beef Pattie ($3.80). It was excellent, with a very flaky golden crust around a very moist, flavorful, and spicy ground beef filling. I scarfed it down as a snack the minute I arrived home. I didn't go for the usual combination plate, because I didn't want all that rice. So, I was happy to see they sell proteins by the pound. So, if you'd like a container of Jerk Chicken, Stewed Chicken, Curried Chicken, Jerk Pork, Oxtail, Pepper Steak, or Curry Goat--- you're in luck. I ordered a pound of their Jerk Pork ($8.50) and it was sooooo good. The meat was tender, and the jerk sauce had a sweet kick of spice. I divided it up into two dinners - the first was over cauliflower rice, and the second was a homemade version of Rasta Pasta -over penne with some mushrooms, onion, pepper and broccoli I sauteed myself. So, my $13.20 order provided some excellent value. I will definitely visit Milton and the Jamaican Kitchen on my next trip to South Windsor. I wonder what song will be playing next time?

stewed chicken should be advertised as a bunch of rice and barely any stewed chicken. Tasty though.read more
