Oh boy ! So glad I saw that sign off the highway! This hit the spot! Very very good stew chicken / cabbage and rice/beans! The chicken was fall off the bone delicious! This was a lot of food for medium size dish too! Thank you! Cool little store with Jamaican music playing and cool posters up. If I was a local I'd be here all the time !!

I really enjoyed the food, it was right off of the highway and I'm very glad I was able to stop here on my way home. The workers were all very friendly and attentive. The inside had a decent amount of seating and was clean.

Car lunch of Jerk, stew and curry chicken - all 3 were incredible.

Seriously delicious Jamaican Caribbean food and super friendly service. I was torn between the curry, stew and jerk chicken rice platters, so the kind server basically smiled at me and said no problem as he gave me all three atop a huge serving of rice and cabbage, and charged me for a "medium" size, which fed me for both lunch and dinner later (I think a "large" might feed a family!). The 4 hunks of white meat chicken I had were fall off the bone tender -- and so flavorful. All were delicious but my fave was the curry. Wow. We luckily found this bc it's just a minute from the tesla chargers; definitely will be back when in the area again!

    Jerk Pork Sandwich

Came in for lunch around 1pm on a Monday. Service was quick. Got the jerk pork sandwich and 2 wings. The sandwich was good. Pretty simple; just pork, coleslaw and a big fluffy bun. Good amount of food for the money. The wings were lacking. A little dry and surprisingly not much flavor.

I've had Jamaican Kitchen highlighted in my notebook for a few weeks. I was in the area and decided to stop for a late afternoon snack of a beef patty and a few Jerk Wings. The shop had some cool art. Service was friendly. The food didn't completely connect with me though. I enjoyed the filling of the spicy beef patty and the beef patty had great colors, but I didn't love the texture of the outside. The outside seemed more layered and it was a bit tougher to work through than other beef patties I've had. I'm used to jerk wings with more of a rub and/or paste type vibe, but JK's wings were saucy. I like sauce, but this sauce didn't work for me. It was salty and spicy in an unrounded way. If I had made these wings at home, I would have tried to sweeten the sauce a bit and found a way to introduce some acidity given the level of salinity. I may go back to try something like brown stew chicken or escovitch fish, but based upon what I ate today ~ Three Stars.

Another quick lunch with Florida visitor. Tried this new place close to home for a meat patty each. I had the spinach, my favorite, but liked the other one [chicken] better. The crust on mine was a white flour with not a lot of taste but the spinach was fine. The crust on the chicken was yellow and very tasty and the chicken was spiced perfectly. Easy in and out while open 7 days a week is fine with me. Ate them in the car between several necessary stops.

Large Oxtail Stew w/rice and cabbage

After a couple years craving Oxtail Stew, I finally got some here in Rocky Hill at the rather new Jamaican Kitchen. So you know how it feels when you're hyped to eat something specific and you finally get it but sometimes you feel like it was either: A.) Overhyped B.) Not as good as it used to be Or C.) I'm gonna act like it's good so I don't look stupid for hyping it up in the first place. Luckily for me, this was not a problem! My answer was more like: D.) Thank God this place is only 5 minutes from my house This restaurant's online ordering is available on an application called "Toast". There are many restaurants on it but it is not as popular as like GrubHub. Well I was so excited for this Jamaican Oxtail Stew that I downloaded the Toast app just for this restaurant to try it out. I'll glady keep the Toast app as this place was amazing. My order was completed smoothly, it was on time, the restaurant was new and clean while the service was Grade A friendly. My oxtail stew was everything I could have ever wanted it to be. The meat was popping, like exploding with flavor acrually. Fall off the bone type delicate and the rice was absolutely perfect. Not overcooked or undercooked, as well as the beans. Nothing was too moist or too dry. The vegetables on the side were absolutely perfect. The perfect balance for this meal. The food was just so comforting that I felt like I've been eating this everyday for the first 20 years of my life. I felt the love I guess, this food made me feel like family. Not too many restaurants could do this to your soul like that, it's just that good. Please, take a day off, leave quarantine for just a second and eat Jamaican food here. After a long day of taking down field hospitals for the Army National Guard, there isn't a better way for me to spend money.

    "large" stew chicken-lots of bone
    Simone D.

Be warned- pure and unadulterated ripoff The "large" stew chicken for $13.99 has 4 pieces of meat  which were mostly bone and 1 piece of chicken skin(see pic). The "chicken" on the left and right side of pic is literally just the leg bones lol..can't even make this up (see other pic). The "large steak" for $14.59 has 8 pieces of bite sized meat which tasted suspiciously like beef and nothing like steak. There's profit and then there's price gouging. Never again

    Fish Sandwich
    Anna L.

We ordered a fish sandwich and a small order of oxtail. The oxtail comes with rice and peas and cabbage. The cabbage and the oxtail was very good. Nice flavors. The fish sandwich was huge and has some cheese, but we thought it was a bit dry and could use something more like mayo or tomatoes and lettuce. The breading of the fish was a bit too salty. Pass on the sandwich.

I got some fried chicken, Mac and cheese, beef patties and coco bread. Beef patties were so good. Great size and very flavorful. The coco bread was also very fluffy and great combo deal with the beef patty. My only complaints were about price and bang for buck. The fried chicken was delicious, but I think I expected a bigger piece for $2.50 each. Maybe a deal for several pieces might've been good too. Mac and cheese was also good, but a little greasy. I was disappointed it was such a small portion for $4.50 so I probably wouldn't do it again. My whole meal pictured was $25. Service was quick and I did enjoy the meal. Everything was savory and greasy and kind of one note. I did like the chicken patty the best. I recommend picking it up yourself and at a peak meal time so everything is hot and fresh for you.

But they also serve some familiar things in different ways. For instance, the jerk chicken and shrimp wraps. They also offer rice bowls with your choice of proteins. The rice pics I saw looked like white rice, rather than the rice and peas I generally see at Jamaican restaurants. I always order a beef patty when I try a new Jamaican place. Parishes' had very good flavor and good texture. I also ordered a jerk chicken wrap. The chicken was cut into small bite size pieces and served in a thin wrap with shredded lettuce, tomato, onions, peppers cheese and dressing. The wrap worked fairly well as a whole, but it could have been served by any number of types of restaurants. Meaning, that I didn't really pick up much of Jerk or Jamaican flavor as it was served. Maybe because there was a good bit of lettuce and I'm usually eating jerk chicken off the bone. You could have told me it was a chicken Caesar Wrap and I would have believed it. Again, it was good. Just not quite what I expected. The eatery was cool, well decorated and had a friendly vibe. A few regulars came and went while I was there and the crew had a good rapport with them. I would definitely go back to try the Rasta Pasta or something like that. If you're in the area, Parishes is well worth checking out. Four Stars

The wrap itself, however, fell a little flat for me--the flavors were milder than I expected, and I was hoping for more of that bold, spicy jerk kick. That said, the ingredients tasted fresh, and the portion size was generous. Looking at photos of the restaurant, the space has a stylish, artisan vibe that I'd love to experience in person. While this dish didn't wow me, I'm open to giving them another try in-house--sometimes ambiance and fresh-off-the-grill food make all the difference.

I heard about this sandwich for months, and everyone said it was good, so I had to try it out. On the first bite, I was speechless. Now I see what all the talk was about. The Fish was cooked to perfection. The Cabbage on the sandwich was delicious, tangy, crunchy, and slightly sweet. You can either get the fish sandwich on Coco Bread or Potato Bread. I would recommend getting it on the Coco Bread. I also tried the Oxtail Cheesesteak, which consists of chopped Oxtail meat, sautéed Onions and Peppers, and Cheese Wiz. I also tasted the Oxtail Empanadas. I would give these items three stars because the Oxtail tasted too gelatinous. When I bit into the Oxtail Cheesesteak, it gave off a fatty and gelatinous taste, but was flavorful. Also, I did not like the Cheese Wiz in the Oxtail Cheesesteak. I would have rather had a Provolone Cheese or a Sharp Cheese on the Cheesesteak. You'll find it on Park Road between Quaker Road and Whiting Lane in West Hartford. There is parking on either side of Park, or in the small lot right alongside the restaurant. The interior of the dining space has a big yellow menu board on the wall, three tables for in-house dining, and the service counter where you order. The menu is pretty deep, with traditional small/large choices like jerk/stews/curries, jerk pastas, special orders (curry shrimp, anyone?), sandwiches, salads, sides, and more. When it's time to narrow down your choices and order, if you are as lucky as I was, hopefully your order will be taken and cooked by a delightful young lady by the name of Clover, or as she said, "like the plant". She was a delight and when she saw me looking at some coconut water (imported from Brazil) in the refrigerator, she filled me in on details about why it had to be frozen before it was refrigerated. So, for lunch I had a small order of jerk pork and one of those coconut waters. I could barely finish one half of that "small" order. The lunch came with a side of one of the most flavorful rice and peas I ever had. It was sneaky spicy and I loved it. The side of "vegetables" is usually a steamed mass of cabbage plopped into your dish, but not here- it was crisp and fresh and crunchy - like you see in one of those supermarket cole slaw kits. A great counter-balance to the jerk spices. And I haven't even gotten to the jerk pork yet. Well, there was a lot of big juicy chunks of meat in there, and they were great. Five stars all around for value, portion size, service, and of course..... Clover.
