I was torn between the curry, stew and jerk chicken rice platters, so the kind server basically smiled at me and said no problem as he gave me all three atop a huge serving of rice and cabbage, and charged me for a "medium" size, which fed me for both lunch and dinner later (I think a "large" might feed a family!). Quick review. Ordered delivery to the hotel because I'm on a work trip again. Delivery was super fast and had me wondering why. I wanted festival and carrot dumplings but I guess there wasn't anything left. Food was pretty tasty, ordered jerk chicken small and a beef patty spicy because I was banking on those festivals and dumplings. The beef patty was a little thin but had a more distinct scotch bonnet pepper taste than if you got store bought Golden Krust. It wasn't too spicy at all but was tasty and flaky. The jerk chicken small is a good size if you want to try other food. I got a drum stick and a whole wing section. The meat was tender and juicy, had a nice smoky and peppery flavor. I got rice beans and cabbage on the side. Everything tasted pretty good and wasn't dried out. Food as a whole came hot to the hotel. Only downside is there were no flatware provided. Not sure if that's on me but almost think delivery to a hotel should be a no brainer. If I'm in this area again I'll order again, hopefully festival and dumplings will be in stock. read more

I've had Jamaican Kitchen highlighted in my notebook for a few weeks. I was in the area and decided to stop for a late afternoon snack of a beef patty and a few Jerk Wings. The shop had some cool art. Service was friendly. The food didn't completely connect with me though. I enjoyed the filling of the spicy beef patty and the beef patty had great colors, but I didn't love the texture of the outside. The outside seemed more layered and it was a bit tougher to work through than other beef patties I've had. I'm used to jerk wings with more of a rub and/or paste type vibe, but JK's wings were saucy. I like sauce, but this sauce didn't work for me. It was salty and spicy in an unrounded way. If I had made these wings at home, I would have tried to sweeten the sauce a bit and found a way to introduce some acidity given the level of salinity. Another quick lunch with Florida visitor. Tried this new place close to home for a meat patty each. I had the spinach, my favorite, but liked the other one [chicken] better. The crust on mine was a white flour with not a lot of taste but the spinach was fine. The crust on the chicken was yellow and very tasty and the chicken was spiced perfectly. After a couple years craving Oxtail Stew, I finally got some here in Rocky Hill at the rather new Jamaican Kitchen. Thank God this place is only 5 minutes from my house This restaurant's online ordering is available on an application called "Toast". There are many restaurants on it but it is not as popular as like GrubHub. Well I was so excited for this Jamaican Oxtail Stew that I downloaded the Toast app just for this restaurant to try it out. I'll glady keep the Toast app as this place was amazing. My order was completed smoothly, it was on time, the restaurant was new and clean while the service was Grade A friendly. My oxtail stew was everything I could have ever wanted it to be. The meat was popping, like exploding with flavor acrually. Fall off the bone type delicate and the rice was absolutely perfect. Not overcooked or undercooked, as well as the beans. Nothing was too moist or too dry. The vegetables on the side were absolutely perfect. The perfect balance for this meal. The food was just so comforting that I felt like I've been eating this everyday for the first 20 years of my life. I felt the love I guess, this food made me feel like family. Not too many restaurants could do this to your soul like that, it's just that good. Please, take a day off, leave quarantine for just a second and eat Jamaican food here. Jamaican Kitchen opened up right down the road from us and we've only heard good things from around town. We've been meaning to go, but recent events gave us the push we needed!! Right when I walked inside, the smell was incredible! The staff was friendly and greeted us when we walked in. We ordered online and the bag was sealed and labeled off to the side to easily grab. We ordered the Jamaican Beef Patties (obviously!), Jerk Chicken Sandwich and Jerk Pork. I tried a bite of the Jerk Pork and wowie, was it good. The Jerk Chicken Sandwich was so flavorful and not as spicy as I thought it would be. The CoCo bread it came on was so fluffy and perfect for this sandwich. The only thing I didn't like was the coleslaw, but I'm not a big fan of that regularly. The portions for lunch were spot on - not too much, and not too little. Just finished a jerk chicken sandwich and I said to my husband....this is one of the best things I've tasted in a while. The only reason I didn't give a 5 is I thought the sandwich was a little small for the price. Also got a generous side of plantains and two patties for another meal - a beef and a veggie. I have to credit this place for helping to keep me and my husband alive and our bellies happy during quarantine. The food here is great, the portions are very generous and there are lots of vegetarian options We usually get 3 or 4 meals between us to share when we order, so we have been able to try many different dishes. When we get the large sizes, they literally feed us for 3 meals each, as they also come with rice and peas and cabbage. So far between us, we have tried: Jamaican wings (my husband loves them), eskovitch fish (absolutely delicious and you get a whole fish with the large, so it's many meals worth), sweet and sour tofu (my favorite), curried chickpeas, jerk shrimp, okra, coleslaw and sweet plantains. I wasn't a fan of the coleslaw because it was far too "Mayo-y" for me, but everything else has been delicious and flavorful but not spicy. When ordering, we have used the online ordering system and it has worked very well! Pick up has been easy and the employees are always very nice. The only complaint that I have is that it seems that they always forget something (thus the reason for 4 stars and not 5) and that "something" is usually the plantains, which I always look forward to. My husband has had to run back to the restaurant to retrieve an item that we've paid for but not received, so we have learned to check the bag before we leave the parking lot (or the the restaurant), so I advise you to do the same. Great to have Jamaican food in this area! We went in for the first time a couple months ago when it was take out only. I love that they have spicy or mild beef patties, I will choose spicy every day of the week! I ordered one with coco bread and they put both in a really nice take out bag that was designed to keep it warm. Not typical in a Jamaican bakery, usually you just get the cellophane bag with the end of the patty sticking out. It's a nice touch, though in my case completely unnecessary since I immediately wolfed it all down in my car! I don't know if this is a thing others do, but I love to put my patty inside the coco bread and eat it together. Sometimes if the bread is dry it's a disappointment. But at Jamaican Kitchen it's light and fluffy, a little sweet, perfectly flavorful. It even even splits perfectly right in the right spot to tuck a patty right inside. We went back a second time and I ordered the exact same thing. I swear, I do want to try everything on the menu but I love those spicy beef patties! My first time here because it FINALLY popped up on my Yelp when I went looking for fish and chips on Yelp. Bookmarked it Saturday and made my trip on Monday. For my first trip, figured I'd go with a safe bet that Ian also reviewed: Oxtail Stew. Wow! It was great! The oxtail is well cooked and the stew/sauce perfectly coats the rice and beans to bring that unctuous texture to the meal. If you don't like bones, this ain't the dish for you, honey. I'll also add that it's like bean heaven. There are some large, white beans (fava?) in the sauce and red beans in the rice. I've only recently started liking beans so it was a good/ok experience with those buggers in there. There's cabbage on the side as well. I didn't find that it added much in the way of flavor, but the textural element of it - that nice crunch- was necessary next to the mushy beans, the soft rice, and the soft/tender oxtail. Grabbed the coco bread with cheese and some plantains as well, and the meal was super well rounded. Loved my first meal here and will def be back to try many more new dishes!! read more

Very clean but it just opened so it should be. I was in and out in under 10 minutes.... which is great when you have a 1/2 hour lunch. Decided to get a Spicy Beef Patty. This was the first time I had a beef Patty that had a nice amount of filling not hot at all in Spice for me but some might think it has a kick. For my meal I went with the Oxtail which is my go to. The Oxtail was nice and tender the brown sauce was good wish it was just a tad richer in flavor but it was pretty spot on for what I've had in Jamaica. It came with a side of Veg (cabbage with carrot shreds) and Rice & beans. I got the small it was nice and filling good sized portion. Stopped in for a quick bite on a day off. I wanted something flavored that wasn't going to make me feel heavy after eating. The staff was so friendly and helpful. She had no problems answering my questions or showing me the food prior to making my decisions. I settled for the jerk chicken with rice and cabbage. It was very good. The chicken (leg and breast) was spicy but not overwhelming and so juicy and tender! I also asked for a spicy beef patty which may have been sitting for a while. The edges where not as crispy and flaky as I expected but still flavorful. I sampled the hibiscus ginger drink which is not sweet at all. It's considered a "healthy drink" unfortunately, I was not in the mood for healthy. I went with the lemonade which was perfect. The inside has Caribbean themed artwork all over that is also for sale. Today I went in to order the Large Oxtail. It came with 2 sides, veggies and rice w/ peas. I also grabbed spicy beef patty and coconut bread. What's on the plate is only half of the order.
