It's $6 per fresh lumpia (lumpia sariwa in tagalog). It was good too but I liked the taste of the one at Makilala better. The peanut sauce was okay but again not as good as Makilala. For me, the portion was too big for a lumpia sariwa. I wanted a smaller on that I could dip into the peanut sauce. But that wasn't possible with this one. Service: The service was a little confused. When we arrived it was empty and we got shown to a big 4 person table although there was only two of us. After we arrived a steady stream of people started coming in. Hubby & I actually offered to move to the smaller 2 person table as a father & mother came in with their little child. Also when we wanted to order the pork adobo they said it was out of stock. The table tops have a black marble look but are wood & chairs are black upholstered chairs. The floor is light wood looking tile. There is a big fake cherry blossom tree near the entrance. It's pretty but maybe it takes up valuable real estate. They could get rid of the tree and have another 2 seater table. The washroom on the main level floor is large and clean. There is a washroom in the lower level which I didn't visit. Overall: We thought the food was good. It was definitely delicious. Hubby & I enjoyed it. I would eat here again. But there are also a lot of other Filipino restaurants in the area to try. They have one tablet that goes around for their menu no physical menu, I hope they add more in the future as when the place gets busy people are waiting to have their turn. It comes with a side of peanut sauce that compliments the roll. We also had the fried pork belly which is okay had it somewhere else that's more to my liking. It came with a side of sauce I was thinking the meat will be smothered with lots of gravy and will be serve piping hot on a sizzling plate and its not. One of them suggested walking over to Carinderia. She said that it was "around the corner" and had never been there before. It was more like three corners, but we all walked over like we were doing a school trip. We put together a number of tables. We then went up to the counter to place our orders. This place offers Filipino food. We had two folks, including my intern, who helped us decipher the menu. I saw ramen on the menu and I knew that I had to have a bowl. The mami ramen with grilled pork belly was calling my name. My intern knew that I would get it. I also eyed the halo halo, but needed to figure out how full I would be after eating the ramen. While waiting in line, a man came over with a bin of fried chicken skins and offered them to us. It was such a kind, generous gesture. I took a photo and then grabbed one. It was delicious. So good! The woman taking our orders was sweet. She was happy talking to my intern. The Filipino connection bonded them. She thanked him for bringing us over here, ultimately bringing her business. I learned a few Filipino words while we were waiting: - Carinderia means canteen or cafeteria - Halo halo translates to mix mix, which is what you need to do when you get this dessert - Salamat means thanks The food came out one order after the other. I got my food in about fifteen minutes. That's not bad, but I was hungry. At first, the ramen portion looks small. However, it's incredibly deceiving. The noodles were chewy and perfect. You get a whole hard-boiled egg that is split in half. The grilled pork belly were generous portions that were thick and full of flavour. Speaking of flavour, that broth! It was so delicious. Unfortunately, the place ran out of metal spoons. My intern asked for a spoon on my behalf and we got plastic ones. They weren't meant for ramen noodles and broth, but they still worked out well. Two colleagues got halo halo for dessert. It has a bunch of goodies in it. My intern doesn't like the texture of halo halo, so he passed. Our other colleague who is Filipino, was hoping for ice cream in it. This one did not have it, but she said that it was good otherwise. The woman handling our orders came over to our table to thank us for coming. She apologized for the wait. We were all happy and loved our food. I let her know that the food was delicious, which made her day. There are hot food items available that are not mentioned on the menu. You have to look and ask what the food items are. Its decoration and the way it displays the food are casual and even a bit shabby, but still make me feel very comfortable, just like being at home. The restaurant plays 80's, 90's music. I heard it has karaoke from time to time, I do want to participate in that ! It has all kinds of authentic Filipino food, but our goal is only the Kamayan - Boodle Fight. I looked it up with AI, Kamayan means "use hands to eat", Boodle is just a lot of food, Fight is because you need to fight for your food. This feast is very appealing. All the ingredients will be spread on the table which is covered by banana leaves. The ingredients are colorful, the main proteins are seafood, like squids and fish . With a lot of boiled vegetables on the side. The rice is garlic rice and full of flavor. The restaurant will provide you with gloves to let you eat them with your hands. You can eat them directly or with their special sauce. The food is delicious, but what really stands out is the memorable combination of visuals and flavors.
