Tagpuan is a family-owned restaurant that has grown into one of the best mom and pop Filipino grocery stores in Toronto. They specialize in imported Filipino foods and products with several locations across the GTA. They have freshly made Filipino takeout food, baked goods and snacks galore, frozen foods, empanadas, Goldilocks cakes, pantry supplies and giant sacks of rice. Tagpuan has everything. Pick your favourite ulam, they've got it available. Craving hopia mongo or hopia baboy, they've got those too. I saw them carry out trays of freshly made leche flan and frequently replenish the stock of siopao with new ones. They have many different combos, all-day breakfast, empanadas, siopao, snacks, sweets and desserts. They do catering orders of Party Trays which include numerous meals to choose from like chicken, beef, fish, seafood, vegetables, noodles, soup, rice and dessert. Inside the store I'm greeted by the most welcoming staff who seem genuinely interested in their customers. The friendly atmosphere and ambiance makes shopping here so special. Tagpuan means a meeting place in Tagalog and it is real comfort food that tastes as good as a home cooked meal. My husband was waiting patiently for me while I was wandering around the store, so of course his tummy will be happy when he tastes the haul I picked up for the family. read more

First of all, the small cup of meat dishes are too expensive, it's like $10 already. The noodles are stir fried style but they are pretty soggy, lacking the bounciness that's usually in these kind of thick noodles. The dim sum skewers are a bit better as the Siu Mai was big, a bit tough after microwaving though. The beer was standard restaurant price. The meat was salty as hell. You buy from the take out counter and say you want to sit down so they bring the try to you after heating the skewers up. Maybe because it was late lunch so even the food from the warmer wasn't too hot. I think the location at Kennedy and South of Eglinton was better food wise. Not many seats but it was not rush time anymore so we eventually got a seat. read more

A good friend of mine from Vancouver was visiting for the first time since the pandemic started. One of our favourite things to do is explore Toronto and sample food from different restaurants. One of our favourite things, believe it or not, is Chicharron, deep fried crispy chicken skin. It is the perfect snack food, deliciously crispy and light, not greasy at all. Tagpuan, a Filipino grocery store and restaurant, has the BEST version of this wonderful treat. Theirs is always just right, and also one of the most inexpensive in the city (that I've found, anyway). Try it! read more

The food here is pretty tasty. They get 3.5 stars. The palabok was especially good. The mango pudding had very little mango: it was mostly jelly with some sago. That said, it was pretty tasty & thick. Buko Pandan (screwpine with coconut) had a better flavour than mango but there seemed to be no coconut, only Nata de Coco. It was pretty thick. read more

I live in the neighbourhood as my location regularly find the employees friendly location always busy

I ended up stopping by this quaint place to try new foods. It's a combination place to eat food and mini store to purchase groceries and food. Fairly easy to find right near the main road. I got a chicken and ginger soup with veggies + sweet BBQ pork bun + two sides and rice, sides being a beef stroganoff and a corned beef with potatoes. Breaking the meals down: The soup was hot and delicious in the cold weather! My one caveat with this is that it was a tad salty for my liking. However, if you add hot water and make a larger bowl of soup, the saltiness mellows out and the soup is better. Both meats were good. Nothing stood out about the two sides but they were both flavourful. The highlight of my order was the sweet BBQ pork bun. It was very unique and if I was to return, I'd definitely get this again! Overall, a pleasant experience. For anyone in the area and wanting to try out a new place, try out the sweet BBQ pork bun here! read more

Great place. They have a private sit down room, a grocery section and the food counter. The entrance has pictures of the food they serve. The diversity of food available is the most I've ever seen in a filipino place, almost like seafood city, but more. There's a lot more street food available such as chicken skin, Bituka, meat and no meat chicharon, Tagpuan made and those made by a third party. They have a lot of Pulutan (food usually eaten with beer) like sisig (the type without mayo), goat kilawin (sour with vinegar). They also have comfort soupy food like arroz Caldo and sinigang. Hearty food which are good to pair with rice such as kare Kare, beefsteak, Giniling (pork with quail eggs). Desserts like kutsinta, gulaman, sticky rice and hopia. There's just so much here to choose from, just check out the pics! They also have dried whole fish, fried small fish and adobo peanuts. The prices for large are from 10.99 and up. The large is small though, about the size of medium from seafood city, which is a minus. Parking is available. Attentive staff. read more

Was craving garlic rice and decided to come here cause i saw my barber posting about this place. It's like a convenience store plus restaurant combined. There were already hot prepared foods ready, many desserts and baked good sprawled out for you to choose from. I wanted it all but alas, i came here on a mission for a classic filipino breakfast and i got the tapsilog. The garlic rice was phenomenaaaaaal! Even got a little sugar twist baked good too. And that was good as well. read more

It's clean, there's a good number of available booths and tables, the food is fresh (at least on Saturday morning it is) and you get free coffee if you dine in. Stopped in for some breakfast; ordered tapa, sisig and pinakbet with rice. Ladies serving food were sweet and gladly gave us extra calabasa (squash) and ampalaya (bittermelon) upon request. The tapa was tender not dried out like jerky; the sisig came on a sizzling plate with a raw egg on top. The sisig was full of pig ears (hubby would love this) but lacked spice. I enjoyed the veggies the most, good flavor in the pinakbet. I've had their pork bbq on a stick before and it was really good. Thick tender pieces with just a little bit of fat all coated in a yummy carmelized bbq sauce. read more

Have recently been craving the classic home-style Filipino breakfast that our old school Filipino grandparents/parents would literally raise us on every morning. I have been searching all over Toronto to get my Filipino breakfast fix and low and behold I found my satisfaction in this small hidden gem of a corner restaurant in Victoria Park. In comparison, this place hands down has to be the best place for a classic Filipino breakfast - Tapcilog, Tocilog or Longcilog. (For my non-Filipinos this means some type of marinated meat OR Longcilog - Sweet Filipino Sausage, all served with garlic fried rice topped with a couple of runny over easy eggs) They provide good quality, tasty food. I need to stress the fact that they cook their Longanisa, Tocino, and Tapa FRESH. At most Filipino restaurants they prepare ALL their food pre-made and keep it in a food warming display. With Tapa, Tocino, and Longanisa this makes the meat dry and hard almost like unintentional meat jerky. Although they do have a variety of food in warming displays their breakfast is always made fresh to order which provides you with hot, tender and juicy meat. For the portion size of their food, the price is a steal you will definitely leave full and happy. This restaurant also doubles as a small Filipino convenient/grocery store and is very clean. I have to say I am pleasantly surprised and very satisfied. I highly recommend coming here for an affordable, filling, classic, tasty Filipino breakfast and will continue to come back. Note for my English speaking or non-Filipinos: All these meat dishes are served with Garlic Fried Rice and 2 runny over-easy eggs. Tapcilog or Tapa - Garlic, soy sauce and lemon OR vinegar marinated pork or beef. Tocilog or Tocino - Sweet, brown sugar, soy sauce and garlic marinated pork. MY FAVORITE AND YOU CANNOT GO WRONG. Longcilog or Longanisa - Sweet and savory Filipino Sausage sort of tastes like Tocino in sausage form. read more

I have been searching for a good place that sells the classic tapsilog Filipino breakfast. One day while in the area, I found Tagpuan and found out that they sold tapsilog (marinated beef, fried rice and fried egg) and they sold it all day. I excitedly ordered it and was not disappointed. The beef was tender the rice and egg were perfectly cooked. Since this time I have been stopping by this place whenever I'm in the area. A few things not to be missed are, turon, pancit palabok, pork bbq skewers, pares and of course the tapsilog. They have a small eating area consisting of roughly 10 tables, but good luck getting seats on weekends as this place is jammed with Filipinos. Restaurant is fairly clean and parking is available. The layout is a little weird as you had to walk through the dining room in order to get to the takeout counter. Other than that, this place is definitely a good place for authentic Filipino food. read more

Tagpuan is a filipino (Pang masa) Restaurant. They renovated the place and now you can dine-in just like the FV foods at warden. The food is good. No complaints and its always packed with lots of filipinos dahil masarap pagkain nila. The only thing is even though its already renovated, they still need to renovate. Its still small and they need to organize it MORE. FOOD: taste wise: 9 /10 PLACE: Restaurant size: 7/10. SERVERS / Employees: 9/10. read more

I'm not 100% what has happened to this place. But the few times I've recently gone here has been absolutely terrible! I believe the management has changed actually, and maybe even the chef. The usual faces I always saw at Tagpuan are never there now. That's where I get my assumption. Food is terrible in flavour and quality, service is so-so instead of being perfect. My heart is broken, as I thought I had found my go to Filipino place here in Scarborough. With my recent experiences, I don't see myself returning here. I gave them many chances, honestly not believing how this place has flipped upside down. Maybe a year down the road, I'll try this place again. Such a shame, as they were a complete 10/10. read more

We ordered Halo halo. Quite pricy for $11.30(with tax) very little ingredients. And when I ask for additional milk cause it's so hard to mix, the server is not happy.. he said to the kitchen staff to add water., quite rude. I don't know what they did but I'm never gonna come back again . read more

So I told my wife we've never tried this Pilipino spot yet and she decided to check it coz she was around the area. She got milkfish, arroz caldo (congee) but better, palabok (noodles), chicken feet mongo( mung beans) dinoguan ( blood pudding)but better. Hungry yet? And Bbq pork skewers. Then Halo Halo can't explain just order it. Ginataan and dila dila. Coconut goodness. Very authentic place. Tasted like back home no short cuts here. The bbq was so tender, the all the stews were on point. Can't wait to order the rest of the menu. read more

Very good Filipino food. Can be hard to navigate for non Filipinos. Many Filipino restaurants can come off as unfriendly they are not, just quiet and don't get many non Filipino customers. As an outsider Ive been to many Filipino restaurants in Canada/us and the Philippines,.. this place is as good as it gets,... Which is GOOD! Give it a try, ask for help be friendly and you'll get great service. For newbies. Try the beef stew, fried fish (small fish) a noodle dish and for dessert try the Halo-halo or fried jackfruit and banana. I personally love the bicol Express (which I make which mac n cheese, it's got southern feel to it.) Great comb! Good luck! read more

Not bad. I go here to order Tapsilog specially on rainy days when I'm feeling particularly homesick (Philippines homesick) and it brings me right back to where my heart is. As far as customer service and dine in experience goes, well it will all depend on what you expect. I don't think this is where their effort lies in as much as they do the authenticity of their products. Authenticity? Product and foodwise - they've pretty much got it down perfectly. read more

Worst customer service EVER! I used to be a regular here but i feel their customer service has gone downhill since theyve revamped the place. Joy, one of the employee is extremely miserable ALL THE TIME! She does not smile or greet you with a hello--just plain rude! I ordered their pancit party tray--what a waste! No taste and of course Joy had to be the one who served me (once again -rude!) I would go here for my Filipino food fix if I am not in the mood to drive to Cabalen. Food is a hit and miss, meat in the beef caldereta is at times not as tender, adobong pusit is ok but they do not remove the pen or backbone makin it difficult to eat. Came here twice for the breakfast buffet and both times I was disappointed. If they are charging $12.99 at least make sure that the corned beef dish has more beef than potatoes. The scrambled eggs were not refilled frequently. When refilled, it would be very sparingly. It seems that they just cook as needed. Some trays are empty and you have to wait for a refill. By the time they do, you have lost your appetite. If Buffet Places like Mandarin do the same thing no customers will be back. Lastly, if you choose buffet over ala carte, the restaurant staff watch the other customers like a hawk to make sure they dont take food from the buffet table. If you are expecting the typical friendly and hospitable Filipino service, go elsewhere. Too bad there aren't many good choices in the area for Pinoy food. Might be worth to drive to 'Sauga read more

I ordered three items: chicken fried rice, lomi and leche flan. The chicken fried rice was too oily, and I was not too fond of the smell of it. Lomi soup/noodles weren't great either, and it was flavourless. I think out of the three items; I liked the leche flan better. read more

This doesn't even deserve one star!!! I've probably been here about three times. All occasions were basically horrible! Being a filipino I am mostly disgusted in the service and the attitude of the owner and the workers. Number one, if you don't look filipino they'll just give you more attitude. Believe me, I've given it back to them IN FILIPINO as well. Once the worker told me in Filipino she thought I was coloured! Rude! Just came from there yesterday near Closing time to purchase their "turon". After the lady said they had none, all three workers turned their back. I decided to purchase something else. My BF and I were standing there for a good two minutes. Lady looks at us while chewing with her mouth open and doesn't even acknowledge us. Are we looking at her for no reason? My BF asks her if we can pay.... Again, just the look and then serves us!!! THREE PEOPLE??? And it takes your customer to grab your attention???? Another instance I went, long Line up to get cooked food. No organization to the line. Only way you'll get service is if You open your mouth demand For service or ask where the proper line up is.... So I Say this... As a Filipino, if you're not Filipino good luck getting around here. Like I said, I don't look it and Got the worst service in my life. If my mom went in, I'm sure they would be kissing her behind with excellent Service. Even so, my BF who looked it Got the worst service of his life and will never return. If you don't want to be irritated with the long wait and bad service I suggest not To go. All occasions I've only been there when I needed something on an urgent basis. Will I go again??? Never!!!!! Absolute horrible experiences... Disgrace to the Filipino heritage. read more

Nasty food yuk..I ordered beef with eggs breakfast . It was my fist time trying this restaurant and never again. It was so bad that I couldn't even give my girlfriend the meal I bought her.. it was a complete waset of money . My dogs wouldn't even eat it ...first off the eggs seem like it was submerged in oil . The rice was oily and the beef tastes like beef jerky heated up. How does a place like this even stay in business wow. How do they get away selling ppl that dog crap of a meal. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I've gone to this restaurant probably a dozen times and I'll keep coming back. The prices for the hot items are pretty reasonable, and they can be freshly prepared. Their halo-halo is nice to enjoy in the summer and it's very refreshing. Their fried calamari is always fresh and crispy which makes a lot of people come back to the store. Their fried rice never upsets me as it's fresh as well. Breakfasts are good anytime of the day! It may not be 100% authentic Filipino food, but it's still close (maybe it has a bit of Chinese influence, but it's still awesome) The staff are friendly whenever I visit, but I haven't really seen any rude workers like mentioned in a few reviews. In-store experiences are good, since it's nice to eat dinner while watching Filipino TV channels and having free coffee or water. Bottom line, if you wanna find a good dinner at a reasonable price, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND coming here! read more

At your own risk if you eat here. We all got food poisoning. Me and a group of my coworkers bought a variety of take outs for lunch to share at work. Sisig, bicol express, and dinuguan. We all got really sick that same day up until the next few days. We had constant diarrhea and nausea along with cramps, fever, extreme chills, and body aches. I missed work for a week because of this. My doctor diagnosed it as Salmonella. He said it could have been leftover foods re-cooked and served again or the meats prepared were still raw. I had never had food poisoning and this has been my worst and unpleasant experience. I am never coming back. Also, Their customer service is not that great either. Disappointing! read more

Terrible service. Myself and my gf have come in on separate occasions and on those occasions we were the only customers in there. As I stood by the food counter I was not acknowledge by the 3 ppl working behind the counter. I had to interrupt their conversation to ask them for a particular item that I was looking for which they didn't have. My gf and I ended up picking something up but was completely ignored at the cash by the 3 associates behind the cash. I had to get her attention which I didn't feel I needed to as I was obviously ready to cash out. And whoever that lady was working behind the cooked food counter shouldn't be chewing with her mouth open. Specially when serving food. Disgusting. My gf has also received the same service. This place may be near by but I'd rather travel for better service. Never returning. read more

This is the best Filipino Restaurant I've been in the Toronto area... For those who gave 1 star. I wonder if you gave the workers attitude too, that is why you didn't get the service that you deserve. Tagpuan have the best pancit palabok and sisig.
