If you have time to waste, then you can go to this restaurant. this weekend I decided to go to this restaurant. I ordered a bowl of beef soup. I was pressed for time but I had enough time to eat a bowl of soup. I had approximately two hours before I had to run some errands. I sat down and it took about 15 minutes of sitting there when I gave my order to the waitress we were never offered chips or salsa, which I don't really care about anyway ,but when we ordered the soup I asked her if it was going to be a little bit of time and she said No it should be pretty quick... 45 minutes after waiting I went and asked her how much longer she came back and said about 20 more minutes. I decided to ask because I noticed that they were bringing out a lot of to-go orders and not really serving anybody on the floor. I could not believe that I had just wasted 45 minutes waiting for soup it wasn't like I had ordered anything difficult to make it was just a bowl of soup I decided that I no longer wanted to eat there and we left.. so the service is pretty bad the wait time is even worse I would not recommend this place to anybody unless of course you have about 1 hr to wait for a bowl of soup read more

The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, which is why we chose to stop in for lunch (the sign of any good Mexican restaurant). The food was solid, with healthy portions and reasonable prices. I introduced my coworker to the pupusa, and he agreed that it is a fun and exciting alternative to your classic Mexican grub. I'd like to start of by saying the food tasted good and the man was polite. However, the horchata was a small hard plastic cup and left a sandy texture in your mouth. In comparison to other restaurants they usually give large foam cups in which you can take home afterwards and enjoy the left over. I ordered 5 pupusas revueltas which is a mixture of beans, cheese, & pork . I opened the first one up and there was a bright blue piece of plastic inside of the pupusas. I showed it to the hostess and she explained that it was from the masa bag . She offered to remake the one pupusa. I agreed however I was not satisfied due to the fact that what I'f I wouldn't have opened it up and just bit into it this is a choking hazzard . What if a baby or child or senior were to bite into it this is most definitely a choking hazard. The curtido was extremely soggy and I could tell this was old curtido and not fresh at all due to the color and texture. Highly disappointed in these masa plastic pupusas . They were not good at all. I wish I would've taken a picture before handing it over to the hostess she didn't even ask if our order was for here or to go but that turned out to be a good thing or else I would've gone home with plastic inside of the pupusa. The salsa was watered down with flavor was horrible. If I could rate this a zero this restaurant needs to take pupusas off there menu HORRIBLE pupusas! read more

Such a great little place! Pupusas pretty good! Chicken, pork, carne asada ... Any of them are DELISH! With the cabbage, carrots garnish thingy mabob.. with the beans and rice and sauce. I make it into like a tostada!! SOOO yummo! I can only eat two.. if your a big eater then try 3 or more but it'll fill you up quick!! Prices were reasonable. Of course if you want really good pupusas you'll have to drive your happy butt to the city to mission but this place isn't so bad! I'll come back again! =) read more

Agree - not as good as Bugambillas which was closed on Tuesday. Pupusas were not flavored as well. If we want pupusas on Tuesday, in Fairfield, we'll return to Jalaenos. I don't think Jalapenos accepts credit cards. Just a few blocks off I-80 on W. Texas with a huge (drive around) parking lot which motor home drivers would appreciate. Two of us ordered 5 pupusas (3 meat variety) and 2 others at $2.25 each. We asked how much a side of rice and beans cost. The only waitress said there was a pupusas plate for $9.95 (2 pupusas and rice and beans, so the rice and beans would cost ~$5.50). So we skipped the rice and beans. I wanted to try this place today... Well the directions were un clear and from what it looks like it, it's in a really bad part of town. I got stopped by a cop while I looked for the directions on my iPhone. I think if I didn't find it that only means it was that great to even be on the map. They get 2 stars ONLY because the Puposas are wonderful. The rest of our food was awful and bland. If this is what true authentic Salvadorian tastes like... YUCK. Aside from that, if we ever go back it will only be becasue of those Puposas and it will be take out. The server, although sweet, was terrible. She was unorganized, could not add up a simple check and was slow to get our drinks to the table. You try eating chips and hot salsa without anything to drink for nearly 20 minutes and see how you like it. Drinks are the easiest thing to get, for only 2 people and an empty restaurant. Poor girl needs a different job. Seafood, super yuck. Don't bother. Only other thing i liked were the refried beans were really good. It had been a minute since I had been here and was hesitant to return. I have to say that they have gotten much better. I took my mom since we both were craving pupusas, she ordered the zucchini one which was very good. I had the typical mixed one. But the best thing ever was the order of platanos with beans and sour cream. The platanos were most likely deep fried in lard because they were delicious, the portion is huge too. Went here today because my friend told me the beans were so good! She always wants me to try beans because I am very picky with beans. Lol so we went here I ordered a chimichanga and with no tomato no beans and no lettuce. I forgot to tell our server (one of the older girls) to put the beans on the side so I can try them. And that way if I didn't like them it wouldn't mess up my burrito!! So I told her 5 minutes after. She said okay yes we can put the beans on the side but we're going to charge it as a side because they already started your food. I don't like to argue with servers because I'm a server myself and I hate to be a pain in the ass but why will she charge me for the beans which were ($3.50) because I told her after my food was started, I've had customers do that where I work and I would never say that it makes no difference but whatever. Also she brought my friends food to the table first , didn't bring her her tortillas so she couldnt start eating her food , I waited about 8 minutes before she brought mines out. We had to get up to ask for salsa because they didn't bring any. Also my burrito came with lettuce when I asked no lettuce but i didn't want to complain. I asked server for water and when I asked for a straw she rolled her eyes I'm like oh hell no!!!! I usually tip 30% but ended up leaving her the change to the $50 which was $7 because I know the struggle of being a server. She didn't deserve it but oh well. The young lady that helped her was very nice & friendly when she came to get our dishes . Food was 2.5/5. Nothing fancy but beans were very good!!!! Me and my bf love coming here for the pupusas. The jalapeno with cheese is really good. They're all good actually. Haven't been disappointed. The cabbage that comes with it is oh so yummy too. This restaurant is located in the dumpy part of town. The restaurant outside doesn't look like much, the inside is low-key. Each table has a map of El Salavdor and its cultural facts, history, etc.. So you can read that while you wait for the food. We ordered the grilled pork pupusa and the cheese pupusa. Pupusa is a corn flat bread stuffed with various ingredients and then fried. We also had the grilled skirt steak. Our meal came with an appetizer --chips and salsa and spicy marinated cabbage (kinda like sauerkraut). The pupusa were pretty good, but I wished it had more flavors. The cheese and pork inside were delicious and very fillling. The grilled skirt steak was excellent, slight crisp on the outside and very juicy tender inside. The dish also came with fried plantains. The latter were all right, not much flavor. There was a lot of food, and the price was great. We had leftovers for 2 more meals. We'll definitely come back again. read more

I found the food here to be really tasty and the portions to be generous. Had the fried plantains and a couple of different kinds of pupusas. It was all pretty tasty. This is definitely a place you come for the food rather than the experience. While they have indoor dining, this is pretty much a taqueria-style establishment in terms of the dining experience. Only get the pupusas, the rest of the food is not good quality. It is always hot as hell, carpet flooring is nasty, they practically throw the plate of food at you and are rude. Customer service needs lots of improvement. Most importantly, you better leave a tip, or they will ask for it!! This place has the best pupusas on this side of the bay bridge. I've tried to sample other items on the menu but I can't seem to stray from those delicious pork and cheese filled beauties. I would give them 5 stars but... The service here isn't exactly friendly. They aren't slow and they do their job just fine but they aren't really smiley people. On top of that, it can get really hot inside the restaurant so coming here in the summer sucks. The most frustrating thing is that their rice and beans are SO GOOD but they give the smallest portions of them compared to other restaurants. It's seriously tragic. This place really needs to work on their service. A to go order was placed 30 minutes before going to the restaurant to ensure that we would get our order and get out the door as quickly as possible. When we arrived to pick up the order they said it will be ready but they did not even start making the order until we were there. The man at the counter said that it is done like that because "people have ordered and never came in to get or pay for the food". When we finally received our order and were back at the office we found out that they had shorted us 2 pupusas. Needless to say this is the last time we will order or come here. read more
