When I walked in, a lady at the front greeted me and asked if I was ordering takeout or dining in. I told her I was eating in, and she said I could choose my own table, which I really liked. Sometimes restaurants pick for you, and it's not always where you want to sit. She let me know she'd be back in a few minutes, and when she returned, she brought me a cup of ice, along with chips, salsa, and the menu. I do wish the cup had water in it though . I ordered one chicken street taco, one steak street taco, and two super tacos (chicken and steak). The super tacos came loaded with cheese, sour cream, and pico. The tacos were very flavorful, and the super tacos were SUPER! When I picked them up, the shells fell apart a bit, but that didn't stop me from enjoying them. The street tacos were amazing, they had the perfect balance of cilantro, onions, and meat. Even though the super tacos were a little overstuffed and messy, they were still really good. Me and my Salvi husband eat a lot of pupusas in a lot of places and these now top the list! We tried queso, calabasa, and revuelta with pork. All fire! Curtido? Fire! This place WAS my favorite Salvadoran restaurant. I went in yesterday and first noticed it was empty, when this place used to to be jammed packed. Secondly, I noticed all new tables and chairs, very nice but it gave me a vibe that it's under new ownership. Thirdly, the Menu prices have skyrocketed to very $20 bucks for plates that use to be $12 approx. I got two Pupusas and a tamale and a Salvadoran horchata. The first sip of Horchata tasted like a Mexican one with more cinnamon taste which isn't Salvadoran style. They use to be the best here. The pupusas were the worst I think I've ever tried. Reminder this place use to be the best around. Pupusas almost seemed burnt on one side and not in a good way like when the cheese oozes out. Nope! The pork tamale was obviously made on New Year's Eve. They tried bringing it back to life but areas were very hard and dry. When I say dry, it was very dry. This place went from being one of the Best if not Thee best for Salvadoran food to the worst. I say this honestly because I didn't know one owner or cook could ruin such a great restaurant. Our favorite local pupusa spot. Be prepared to wait as they make your pupusas when you order. Came here for dinner on a weekenight and waited about 15-20 mins till our order was ready. Lady was very pleasant and nice. Pupusas was amazing as always. We got pork and cheese,chicken and cheese with beans and rice. They do give plenty of salsa and cabbage that you put on the pupusas. I used to really like this place. The food quality was good and priced fairly. Now the quality is still good but the prices are extremely high. The pupusas (my favorite) are now $5/each. if you order to go, they don't give you enough curtido, so you're forced to pay extra ($5 for a sandwi sized bag). I won't be going back. read more

The food here is really good. We usually grab takeout but have dined in a couple times. Dining in you will wait a bit for your food so be prepared. Favorites are the chicken soup (this is amazing on cold days or if you are sick). I ask for extra broth & veggies light on the chicken. The papusas!! I usually get the bean & cheese but recently had the carne asada papusas and it was beyond delicious. The pork ones are good as well. Love the pickled cabbage and hot sauce. Jalapeños has very delicious pupusas that are a good standard size and packed with flavor! It's also important to mention they're fairly priced compared to neighboring pupusa restaurants. We tried their jalapeño & cheese, revuelta (mixed), and bean & cheese. My favorite was the jalapeño & cheese, but they were all so equally tasty. They're served with a nice traditional tomato salsa and curtido (pickled veggies). I'm excited to try food items from the rest of their menu now that I've had a small sample of their extensive menu. So this is an update. I never did make it by to chat with owners or management. I'll keep it simple. We ordered food for Easter Sunday. Ordering rice and beans went from $75-$85, to $15 sizes...I was confused that there was no middle ground. I order the larges...also order a few dozen papusas. Well I noticed the bean tray was very greasy. When I peeled back the foil lid and the sheet of cling wrap, there was a 1/4 inch layer of oil covering the top of the beans...we're talking a 12X24, probably bigger(?) tray gross. I didn't put it out for guess to eat it. Then we found that over 50% of the papusas only had the fillings on one side, meaning most of the papusas were almost pure masa. So disappointing. I have never been disappointed with sitting hand having a meal at Jalapeños. Catering just wasn't the same. read more

They dont have many Salvadorian restaurants in my local area. Now I've been to the other one and I have to say this one is the better one of the two I know of. This one has more experience. They seem to know what they are doing. They are priced reasonably. Food was good. I wouldnt go as far as saying that they are the best popusas I have ever had but they where good enough to come back for more. The place is old. But the the side of town they are in it fits right in. Sure regular floor floors instead of carpet would be cool and a little painting could go a long way but we are in Fairfield. Im sure staying in business isnt exactly easy around here. Therefore Im sure they are doing what they can with what they have. Service was good. Not great but not bad. She could have come more often and asked If I wanted something else to drink besides my one horchata. Now to my meal It took far less to get my food here than at the other place. When they came out they where warm and fresh. The perfect size and the right stuffing's. Sure I would have loved more curtido yet they seem to have everything measured to the T. I think next time ill probably order to go. all in all they are solid and if your in the mood for popusas I think this place is more reliable when it comes to that. read more

I thought it was coll when the guy on the phone asked if I wanted a Mexican or Salvadorian horchata pretty cool that they offer a choice. I have not been to this place in a while so I am excited to try it again. I am a big fan of pupusas. I will say the older man at the register was very friendly and got my pick up order out faster than expected. I would return to this place. If you come expect a delay on service. The ambiance is cozy, low key mostly family's so don't worry if your hair is not done. They play good music like Bachata and baladas style. The area is not the safest across from Alan park where crimes and drugs are an often occurrence. Parking is right in front so you don't walk far.
