I thought it was coll when the guy on the phone asked if I wanted a Mexican or Salvadorian horchata pretty cool that they offer a choice. I have not been to this place in a while so I am excited to try it again. I am a big fan of pupusas. I will say the older man at the register was very friendly and got my pick up order out faster than expected. I would return to this place. The only recommendation I have for them is that the horchata was a bit watered down and did not taste right, but everything else was fine. read more

We ordered Zuchinni and Cheese pupusas and Beef stuffed Chili Relleno and Salpicon (finely chopped, chilled beef with lime, mint, onion, radish and curtido- aka cold salad). The beans are wonderfully smooth and have great flavor. And home made Salvadorian Tortillas. We washed it down with a pitcher of very thick Mexican Style Horchata. I'm torn on how many stars to give to this restaurant. The food was good and the service was kind and polite when they were available. I had to get up and ask for more salsa and cabbage for my popusas because they were getting cold. There was plenty of people on back cooking, probably why food was yummy but literally only one guy waiting on the place. He gave me the wrong popusa and we waited so long to get our check. If you come expect a delay on service. The ambiance is cozy, low key mostly family's so don't worry if your hair is not done. They play good music like Bachata and baladas style. The area is not the safest across from Alan park where crimes and drugs are an often occurrence. Parking is right in front so you don't walk far. It's the kind of restaurant that plays Bachata y Cumbia for your background entertainment. Unlimited chips and salsa for 1$! The pupusas are delish! Any way you want it, they will make it! Custom pupusas guys!...well, almost. They have major variety on the menu. Chicken, Pork, Beef, cheese, Beans. Everything is really reasonably priced! The customer service is always great. I get to practice my Spanish, and the waitresses think it's cute :) The manager (or owner, I'm not sure) always makes an effort to thank me for coming in! Walked in about 6 min after 9am, it was my first time trying this restaurant out I thought they were related to the "Jalapenos Mexican Food" in Vallejo or the lunch truck in Benicia but they aren't supposedly!? I waited a half hour for my order to be ready, there was only 3 other customers besides me, one of which was only having a beer and the other was waiting for his take order which he placed after me. Not bad for a location. Kind of hidden. The pupusas are what you should go for, in my opionon nothing else. The bistek was sort of dry and very small portion. The rice had hard pieces in it and the beans were okay. For less I've had more. The place was hot!!!!! Sweated like crazy and did not enjoy my food at all. Needs to have some better climate control. Wanted to try a different restaurant today this place sucked. There is no AC! So friggin hot! I stayed because I was intrigued by Salvatorean food... Noticed they had puposas and ordered 1 to see how it compared to bugumbilias (which recently closed). The pupusa here had no flavor and the red sauce had no kick or flavor. Sad but ok let's salvatorean steak.... the steak was paper thin, more fat then meat again with absolutely no flavor. The beans and rice were nice and I used them to mask the flakes of steak. Cut to the chase - Bugambilias, another Salvadoran restaurant located just up the street, is better. I have driven past Jalapenos many times and finally had a chance to try it today. I love the Salvadoran food at nearby Bugambilias and so was excited to finally get to compare it with Jalapenos. Pulling into the parking lot of an older strip center and stepping into the cramped and dingy restaurant I knew this was not the type of place I would take the family and I was glad I was alone. I ordered the tamale plate which comprised of one carnitas tamale, rice and beans. It was served with no salsa, no chips, and I had to ask for a glass of water. My first bite of the tamale produced a negative surprise - the meat was still frosty cold! I guess they did not reheat it enough. Hey, if I wanted microwaved food I could have gone to Safeway and bought a TV dinner. I called the waitress over who was dubious of my claim that the carnitas filling was still cold. Sorry, I refuse to eat poorly prepared pork, even if they did cook it before they froze it. The waitress took the plate back and I guess the cook was unhappy because I suddenly started hearing plates clattering. Great. Anyway, they eventually brought a new tamale plate out. The rice and beans were just right and this time the tamale was piping hot (microwave hot). The food was somewhat bland, and since there was no salsa I had to start sprinkling hot sauce all over the plate. I will probably come back to Jalapenos again so that I can give their papusas a try, but it will definitely be a to-go order. read more

My obsession in finding pupusas started a couple of years back when my boyfriend took me to this spot in San Bruno. However I was not willing to drive out so far to get this delightful goodness so I kept looking for somewhere local and found this little spot. So I have ordered the pork and cheese, steak and cheese, jalapeño and cheese, lorocoo (veggie) and cheese and bean and cheese pupusas. It is a super tiny spot that you would barely notice but it was packed when I came in to order. The wait is a bit long, but worth the wait. Pupusas look like pancakes with the choice of topping inside. It's a dough that is toasted on the grill that is worth all the calories and cheese! This place packages it really well that it stays piping HOT even after an hour. Took me awhile to get home but when I ate it 45mins later, it was still super hot! Yay! The pupusas here are well made and the hot red sauce it comes with is good but I feel like it's a tad watered down. The other spot I went to was a slight thicker which I like so it doesn't drizzle down your hand and arm. Haven't tried anything else but I will be back!! read more

Very quick service. We went for lunch and it wasn't super busy. Tables were clean and ready to go, we ordered within 5 minutes of sitting down and our pupusas were out to us in less than 10 minutes. Everything was delicious and for the price this would be tough to beat! MANY pupusa options. Standard places have around 4-5 different options this place had around 10, definitely the gold standard for pupusas. Food was ok nothing special the price was standard to other places but the owner who was playing the roll of host is a special kind of special. When asked where we could seat he goes anywhere but when we asked if we could put two tables together he said no and said that we need to take the table in corner next to the bathroom. This small Salvadoran restaurant doesn't look like much on the outside; however, the food is not only authentic - my wife is Salvadoran she knows - it is excellent. The prices are great with large portions being the norm. Try the casamiento or the plantanos both are excellent. Great place to go for breakfast as well. Don't get frustrated if the service is slow as it does get busy and there is only one family cooking. You can order take out. If you like Hispanic style food and live anywhere close to Fairfield please check this place out. read more

I had the carne asada regular burrito for lunch. The place was empty and when my burrito arrived, it looked really sad. It was just a big plain burrito on a white plate. It didn't look that appetizing, but hey - it's what I ordered! The burrito wasn't awesome, but it wasn't horrible either. All I could taste was rice, cheese and the meat. The meat wasn't really in abundance and I could tell it wasn't cooked fresh. The cheese wasn't even melted inside. I do have to give props to the salsa... which I poured all over the burrito to make it tastier. I should have ordered the pupusa as that is their specialty (duh!).. but I was really craving a burrito. Apparently, this isn't the place to get it. Ah, Jalapenos. I've been coming here for years. I'm a huge fan of Pupusas, having first eaten them 20 years ago, made by my wife's Aunt. The decor is spartan. The bathroom is a little order, but the place is usually not what I'd call "dirty". Its rarely full, I've never waited for a table. I always order pupusas. They're better than average, the best I've found in the Fairfield/Suisun/Vacaville area. I've had all the types, they're all good. My wife usually orders a "plato typico" and she likes everything in it. The prices are fair. Where they fall down is service. They're not very friendly and they're pretty slow, regardless of how many people are in the place. Don't go looking for conversation or with a firm timeframe and you'll be fine. read more

Do not come here for Mexican food. The burrito mojado, super burrito and tacos were not the best. The meat and salsas tasted old. The pupusas were pretty good though. The service at Jalapenos is not good at all. We came in the entrance door and the waiter/host did not greet us. I had to ask him if we had to seat ourselves. The waiter had a hard time writing down the menu items we ordered. After my son gave his order, I was next and the waiter interrupted me and was said "wait" and continued to ask my son about his food. When the waiter brought our food, he brought it incomplete. The tacos he served only had onions and cilantro but no chile. I had to ask him for chile and he answered me with a question of "what kind of chile?" I thought the waiter should know well what chile goes with the tacos. We also ordered two chicken and cheese pupusas. He didn't give me the cabbage or red sauce that goes along with it. We had to say something to him. As we were eating, a young couple came in and sat down at one of the tables. The woman went to the counter grabbed the remote control to put on the TV. She then went into the kitchen. Her and her partner told the kitchen staff that they wanted a shrimp burrito and something else. She didn't look like she worked there, maybe she was a relative.
