Its been quite a while since I ate at Jalapenos.. I always felt the place had a bad smell to it. The food: Mushy (maybe you like that, I don't). As a so-so regular at one time, I got sick of seeing the local tequila rep there trying to get folks hooked on $40 tequila shots. Went Aug. 4th at the bar tables. Great food and drinks. Came out promptly. Had a mess up with the order but was quickly resolved. After getting the check and paying for it the waitress took 35 mins to get change. She was standing to the table next to us talking and Never made eye contact with us. It was 9 pm and I wanted to leave because I had other plans but instead I listened to the waitress talk. If you don't mind spend extra time at a good Mexican restaurant I do recommend this place. Authentic flavors, fun atmosphere and huge $7 margaritas. I've been to lots of "Mexican" restaurants and this is one of the best ones in the area. Fresh ingredients really come through in all of the dishes. Try the chicken mole, Chile Rellenos or nachos. Menu is a bit limited and not a lot of options for smaller kids, but all the classics are there and we'll- prepared. read more

Just Awful! No stars! I must say, our service was great (although we were the only people in the entire restaurant). We sat in the bar area and the bartender was very friendly and attentive. BUT - This place is completely overpriced! The food was nothing above average and didn't seem any more authentic than taco bell if you ask me. $10 drinks aren't pleasing either. Not to mention, they had signs everywhere saying "Check in on facebook to recieve a deal" we checked in and were told the deal would be emailed to us the next day..... it never was. I just read the string of subpar reviews from 2008 and 2009 and thought, "Is this the same family-owned Mexican restaurant that I love? It simply cannot be!" I grew up in the Walpole area (I'm from Medway) and can state with absolute certainty that there are NO Mexican restaurants in the area that compare to Jalapenos. Acapulcos and the Alamo, both in Milford, pale in comparison. If you like warm, homemade tortilla chips and freshly made chunky salsa, you're in luck. If you're in the mood for giant margaritas that don't skimp on the alcohol, you'll find a nice selection. If you're vegetarian and hoping for a single meat-free alternative, you'll find several (the cheese enchilladas with salsa verde are my favorite). While the service can be slow at times, Jalapenos more than makes up for it with the freshness of its ingredients, hearty portions, decor, and bottomless chips and salsa. read more

SOOOOOOO OVERPRICED!!!!! Some of the food is GOOD but some is actually not good at all. The scallops are drenched in some sort of sweet... snot? I don't know. But there was so much of this nasty sauce we had to ask for a plate to pour it on just to find the scallops. Yuck. Carne Asada should have wonderful flavors. Their meat is bland. I love their margaritas and for the size THOSE are reasonably priced, but they are inconsistent in the way they taste. The service is a crap shoot. Here's the thing... Mexican food should not cost this much. Being from the South West I know that unless the Mexican food is gourmet, it should be affordable. This is NOT gourmet. Now, I know here in New England Mexican food somewhat of a novelty, as I've heard people refer to Taco Bell as Mexican food, but people, this restaurant is a rip off. Fast, courteous service. I loved the traditional chips as we waited for our food. I picked a pretty basic meal of a burrito, but it was plentiful and delicious! I accidentally dropped my leftovers on the floor as I was gathering up the kids, so I was bummed. As I was saying goodbye to our dinner-mates, I was completely impressed when our server rushed out with a freshly made burrito "to-go" for me! It was completely unexpected, but SO appreciated! We got there early, no trouble getting a table. Ordered drinks....several of us ordered the traditional house margarita...it was the WORST margarita I have ever had. Tasted like water with a squirt of lime juice in it. My daughter ordered a coconut margarita which was basically pina colada mix. The food however was good. Fajitas were tasty and plentiful...most of us brought home doggy bags. I will say our waiter was attentive, but very sweaty...which was very unappetizing. Got take out and although the staff was friendly, the food and packing was very disappointing. First off I've worked in this industry for 20 years. When putting a large order together and using brown paper bags you really should double bag the order. The bottom of my bad ripped causing me to lose one of our meals in the process even though I held the bottom of the bag as instructed by the server who out my order together. The bad I didn't realize was already wet when I picked it up so that could have been the issue. Also the Carne Asada I order tasted of straight soy sauce. I couldn't even taste the meat. The nachos was definitely not the best considering the price. I got the trip with lobster and even after a call back staying the restaurant was out of lobster was still charged full price for this item so not happy with that. Also the fajitas we ordered were soggy. The onions and peppers didn't even have a char on them. They tasted like they were boiled. I also asked for hot sauce and that was never even put into the bag. Have two stars bc the servers were very polite. Other than that we will not be ordering again from this establishment. I hate writing bad reviews, but sometimes it's a hit and sometimes it's a miss. We have friends who love this place so my husband and I escaped for a date night, sans kids. We were seated right away. For a Sat night it was oddly dead. The waiter came over and dropped off some water, chips and salsa, and didn't say a word. Then he came back 10mins later and said "you're ready to order." , it wasn't a question, there was no pre dinner drink order, just get to it. So we ordered, shrimp tacos for me and a chicken quesadilla for my husband. The waiter brought our drinks over. The margarita was ok....heavy on the sour mix. 5 mins later our food is dumped at our table with no words spoken. My shrimp tacos were....weird. The "Mexican slaw" was vinegar soaked cabbage, and the shrimp were positively the largest shrimp I've ever seen.....on a tiny taco shell. It was odd. How are you supposed to eat that? I used a fork and knife....on tacos. I only at one and half out of three. The rice was meh, and the veggie of the day was spinach and mushrooms??? I'm so confused. My husbands quesadilla was soggy and lifeless. The waiter never came over to see how we were doing and when he finally came over he asked to wrap and I said "no". He asked if I liked it and when I said no, he said "you should have told me".....well, that's hard when you don't see him at all. I'm just disappointed. Let me start by acknowledging I grew up in Boston, and my tastes for Mexican food may be skewed by local incarnations. Friends from California over the years have told me how aghast they are of Boston's lack of great Mexican. With that said, I love Mexican food when it's done right. But Jalapenos was disappointing. I recently moved my family to Walpole and we visited Jalapenos for dinner on our first night as Walpole residents. The staff was friendly but service was very poor. We waited far too long to be seated, to order and to receive our food. We weren't the only ones. Another family in the both behind us complained to management about an hour-long wait for food to arrive, despite the restaurant only being 3/4 full. The waiters and managers were apologetic -- no jerks here. But it seems to be a poorly run restaurant. My wife was in the mood for guacamole, so we ordered some for the table. $10 just for guac and chips. Very expensive, and very disappointing. It wasn't bad, just really bland. I ordered enchiladas verdes, which was exceedingly average, as was my wife's carnitas. In fairness to readers, I can be a harsh critic. It's worth noting that I have high standards. If all you're looking for is standard Mexi-American fare with no high expectations, Jalapenos can fit that bill. But if you're jonesing for good Mexican food, go somewhere else. read more

Was STARVING and was DYING for Mexican food. I'm from the area, familiar with the restaurant, and decided to meet my friend there for dinner. We arrived a little past 7:30 on a Tuesday night. We entered through the back entrance, and walked through the bar side all the way to the dining side to the hostess stand - as everyone eye balled without saying a word. There were maybe four parties already sitting. My friend and I stood at the hostess stand for ten minutes. During this time, a waitress walked by us twice, without saying a word. After waiting which seemed like an eternity, we went to the bar side and asked if we could be seated - preferably a booth. The same waitress said we couldn't sit at a booth, even though I saw multipled that were completely empty. After a few minutes, she finally sat us in one. Maybe twenty minutes passed - no one came to our table, took drink orders - nothing. Yet, the same waitress was meandering around cleaning and attending other tables. After trying to make eye contact, which undoubtedly failed, I finally flagged down a waiter. I asked, "Are you our waiter?" He replied, "Uhhhh...... Ya". I asked if we could place an order. We got drinks, a quesadilla, and a burrito. Once we were finally able to order, the drinks and food did come out fast, I have to give them that. I ordered a mojito, which I couldn't taste a drop of alcohol in, yet was charged almost $9 for. When the burrito came to the table, it had everything I did not ask for. So then the waiting game began again to ask my waiter to send the burrito back. It was finally corrected - food wasn't mind blowing. Was not overwhelmingly impressed. Good chips though, but I guess it's hard to mess those up. Finally the bill came - $50 and change! Please tell me you're kidding. I could have made the meal faster and cheaper had I gone to the super market for tortillas and cheese. I'm not one to write bad reviews, I understand people have off nights but come on, seriously? How Jalapeno's only has 2.5 stars truly boggles my mind. Clearly the people that have left poor reviews consider places like Chipotle or Qdoba to be quality Mexican food. Born and raised in California, trust me, I know good Mexican food when I see it. It took me 2 years of living in Massachusetts to find this gem and every time I want a good Mexican meal, this is where I come. Since being recently renovated, the restaurant (especially the bar) is super nice, the waiters are all friendly and attentive, and the food is delicious (I recommend their mole sauce). My husband and I frequent Jalapenos at least once a week, so I am sad to say we will NEVER go there again and it's not because of the food which is very good Mexican food it is because of the young woman bartender with the short black hair...let me tell you what happened and I am sure you will be shocked at the revenge this woman had for us last time we went in there. We had gone in last Saturday and the place was packed ,some raffle for the local football team, we sat at the bar and ordered drinks prior to dinner, she brought over my drink fine and my husband's was wrong he ordered a Coors light and she brought him a harpoon beer so we corrected it all was fine and chalked it up to being busy after the gang left it was only a few at the bar plus us , we ordered another round and again she brought my husband the wrong beer we laughed and she corrected it, after that all seemed fine until we got the bill, we noticed she charged us for Harpoon beers not a big deal but we did bring it to her attention and with "lots" of attitude she said well its only $.50 more a beer , not that it was a big deal but she should have been gracious enough to see her error and fix the bill, so we left her a 10% tip instead of our normal 20% tip, which is our right So yesterday we go for drinks and apps and we decide to order at the bar but sit outside when the drinks came out my husband said his beer tasted watery or weak but drank it all the same, and yes our bartender was the one that made our drinks, so when my husband was up all night sick to his stomach because he drank beer with dishwashing soap in it we put two and two together, it's a shame that the bartender took her poor service out on us , didn't anyone ever tell her not to hold grudges , and truth be told we were the customers that had bad service from her , well never again we will never go to Jalapenos again! read more

"In-town" prices for "Out of town" quality food. The service was friendly and speedy. The food was okay. The ingredients were declared fresh and made daily, but when an accommodation in preparation was requested (to make it vegetarian) it was not possible as the food was "pre-made" (perhaps a red-flag). Both the food and drinks were horribly over-priced for Walpole, MA. When we were charged $2 for a tablespoon of guacamole it became comical. If paying the same price as high-quality restaurants...why not visit one? read more

Went there with a groupon. The service was slow at first due to the fact that the bartenders could only work so fast, wearing their tight dresses. The food is nothing special and we will not be back because of that and the owner's ridiculous reasoning. We were told the owner would not honor the groupon for the full amount of $45 and only honor the $20 for which we paid. Um hello!!?? I told the waitress to let him know thst was BS and I would call the Better Business Bureau and attorney general. The owner never came over, instead sent another mgr to say they would honor it. I have been to this restaurant a number of times. Ambience is colorful and authentic. A large bar area is always active. The food is good and portions generous. Unfortunately the menu never changes. Also, the appetizers are very mundane. Guacamole is soft and boring. Perhaps, a table side preparation with variations in ingredients would help. Entrees reflect cuisines of different Mexican regions. Drinks are standard and service usually attentive. The restrooms are seldom cleaned and border on unsanitary.
