The food at jalapenos is excellent for the most part. It is Traditional Mexican minus the flavor. Many of the menu items taste wonderful, including all of the burritos, and the fajitas. The Tacos on the other hand were bland and boring. Their seafood section is fantastic, nicely seasoned dishes, but lacking variety, you can order from 5 shrimp dishes, 3 or 4 Tilapia dishes, 1 salmon dish, and a swordfish. Jalapenos deserts are fantastic, especially the churros, you can also enjoy fried ice cream, a few different cakes and fried plantains. If your lucky they have their special dessert, Tres Leches Cake or 3 milk cake, which is by far my favorite. The Bar, what a fantastic place to hang out and drink, which i do a couple times a month. The staff is very friendly and for the most part very attentive, minus a very dim-witted but very pretty blonde. The Margaritas are amazing, they use homemade sour mix, as well as any of there 100-some odd tequilas. The sangria is amazing albeit a little untraditional, claiming to be the owner's family's secret recipe, has a delightful cinnamon finish. I wouldnt recommend drinking wine there as the wine ist is not very appealing. All in All i enjoy Jalapenos almost everytime i am there, aside from delinquent bartenders and lack of serious flavor. read more

This place is awesome! We have been many times. Coming from living in New Mexico more then 20 years I was really hopeful to get Mexican food here in New England. Overall this place is legit on the food options, taste and style in which the food was made. They have great beers and awesome margaritas and the service has always been stellar. This place was great when we first started going about 6 years ago. Not sure what happened but it's really gone downhill. It's too bad because it has the potential to be great without too many Mexican joints in the area. The food is bland and grossly overpriced. The service is usually terrible. It's also in desperate need of a makeover, new decor and please get some new menus. I'd be willing to give it one more shot of things change, otherwise my business is moving elsewhere. Took my family to Jalapeno's and was pleasantly surprised. A little pricier than the mob of chain restaurants in this area but very large portions made up for it. I would challenge any post-college man (without his own cable show) to make his way through the fajitas in 1 sitting! Fajitas were quite good, and quesadillas worked well for the kids. I stopped in for something to eat with the family...I was suggested to have the Chipotle margarita. Man, it was amazing. I as going to get the enchilada, and she talked me into the Jalapeño burrito. I was glad that she did as it was like a party in my mouth!!!!!! Then she informed us that the kids get free deserts with the meals. WOW!!! They were great! We weren't the only ones arguing with the hostess about this... it baffles me why the establishment would want to piss so many would-be customers off. I'm kind of indifferent about Jalapenos. I will say that the food is really good for Mexican food in the New England area. They also have table-side margaritas on the cheap. The table-side magaritas are a great treat, and they would be getting 4-5 stars from me because of this offering. However, I truly believe that they have a ton of bacteria growing inside those table-side servers. Everytime I drink from them I feel sick the next morning. However, this is not the same kind of sick that you might be thinking. This is the "I've eaten something bad" kind of sick. Been here a couple times so I figured it was time to chime in. I enjoy the atmosphere the most about Jalapenos, I love the lanterns, the decor and the music. It all adds to the experience. The service I had on both of my visits was great and the servers are friendly and help guide you on the menu if you are feeling a little overwhelmed. Attentive to drink refills (I pretty much only ever have water but always have a full cup!) and also check in enough to be endearing but not overbearing. The food is good, not amazing and nothing that has blown me away but when I am looking for it, I know where to come, and trust me it is not a bad thing! I prefer this location over others in the area due to how comfortable it is and the service. I keep reading good things about the Margs, so I guess I should try one eventually. Hard to say. Really. We were the only two people in the place, 5:00 on a Monday evening, so that's difficult. The waiter was a bit amateur, not bad, but he was a bit dull. I like servers to be either entertaining or off in the shadows. This poor guy seemed lost. The food was okay but I expected more, not in quantity but in quality or unique flavor. If you are going to promote yourself as a unique Mexican, a Mex without the Tex place, you've got yo do a bit more. I'll probably go back one more time, just to see where I was wrong. When this place opened up in the center of town it was PACKED. Great reviews from the TV shows and all, but I don't like lines so I waited. Went there about a month ago with a friend and was not disappointed. I've had better Mexican food but this was definitely up there in my book. It's more expensive than Taco Bell but if you're looking for an upgrade in quality this is it. It's not exactly authentic but it's pretty close. Bottom line: It's a good eat. read more

Jalapenos is a great place to go and eat outside when it's nice. The food is authentic, and they have a lot of different dishes to try. Their fish tacos aren't my favorite though. It always seems a little expensive to me. I have only had 2 margaritas here and they were both too sweet for me. I'll just stick to beer next time :) read more

I have come here before with my family and was impressed at the freshness and authenticity of the restaurant albeit a little overpriced, but tonight we waited for over 2 hours to be served our dinner, they weren't overly friendly and the food certainly wasn't nearly worth the inflated price but what pushed me over the edge is they charge Downtown Boston prices and they are in no way justified -Example. No drink menu- I ordered a glass of wine, they brought it in a dirty glass, I did not complain. Got the bill. The glass of wine cost $17.00... This is a decent mexican food place with a pretty good atmosphere. They never seem to have the right staffing levels, but it is a good place to sit at the bar/lounge area and have a few drinks. I think the food at Acapulcos in Norwood is a little better, but this place is probably a close second for mexican food in the area. I LOVE Mexican/Tex Mex food and this was some of the worst Tex Mex I have ever had. To start, the pros: The chips and salsa were good, the black beans that came with our meals were actually very tasty and the restaurant has a decent ambiance with some outdoor seating. However, none of these pros made up for the horrible food we had at Jalapenos. To begin, the margaritas were terrible. They were giant bowls of sweet and sour mix w/ very little else. The menu was very limited. All of the enchiladas were chicken, the only difference being the type of sauce served over each one. My husband and I each ordered a different enchilada. The chicken filling was completely flavorless. My husband described it as "watery." And the salsa verde pour over the top had no flavor at all. It was by far some of the most bland and least flavorful Tex Mex I have ever had. A previous yelper had had suggested saving your money and going to Taco Bell. I read this review before I want and thought he was exaggerating. Not the case! At least at Taco Bell, Qdoba, or some other fast food Mexican restaurant the food will be flavorful. I could have whipped up far better Tex Mex in my kitchen with a grocery store Taco kit! Although far from being authentic, if looking for Mexican/Tex Mex food in the area stick with a couple of local chains: Acapulcos or Margaritas. In addition, the service was poor. We went for a very early dinner and there were only a couple other guests in the restaurant, with at least 5 servers present and it took quite some time to be addressed by a server and to receive drinks and place our orders. Overall we spent $60 on 2 margaritas, 2 entrees and tip. Having not enjoyed the meal, the drinks, or the service, clearly I did not feel my money was well spent. read more

This is real authentic Mexican Food unless you are one of those really worldly food connoisseurs who considers Chipolte to be the standard bearer for anything involving burritos, tacos, and chips. Jalapeno's is not interested in being Qdoba and thankfully so. Outstanding Salsa, guac, and hot sauces if you ask them to kick it up a notch.
