The first time we went to La Sombra Cantina we thought we were going back to Pineda's. We were…read moresurprised at the change and hoped it was at least as good as Pineda's. We were very pleasantly surprised. It's even better in my opinion. The people are very warm and friendly. The food is really delicious. I love that they bring not only good salsa with their fresh hot chips, but also a tomatillo sauce and a black bean dip. We've now eaten there several times. The taco meat has a nicely charred flavor. The tamales were very good. (I'm picky about my tamales. I've tried their ranchero sauce, chili con carne, and sour cream sauce. None of them disappoint. Their rice isn't dry like it is at many other Tex-Mex places. And their $5.00 all day frozen margaritas are worth it. We usually go for the lunch specials that run until 4:00. They don't have mole on the menu, yet. I'm looking forward to their future specials. In this day and age where it's hard to keep a restaurant open, I really hope this one survives. It's not fancy, but the food and service make it worth it. And I'm a picky person when it comes to spending money on food I don't make myself.

A red salsa which was mild and has some nice acidity from the tomato. Then there was a creamy green salsa that had a nice spice. Then finally my personal favorite a great black bean dip. These paired well with the free chips. My partner ordered the queso birria, great flavor and a great consume. Then I had the poblano enchiladas which was the best dish of night! The poblano sauce was creamy cheesy and delicious. There was a nice spiced shredded chicken super tasty. Overall a fantastic restaurant with great service too !

When I came inside and waited a bit, I finally was able to pick up the order, but the drinks weren't ready. Waited some more for that, and then was able to get the food and go home. Once actually eating the food, we were all please with what we got. Food was still warm when we picked it up and it was delicious. Despite the waiting that was involved, I'd still go back:)

It has gray interior, tables, and chairs. We ordered strawberry margaritas while waiting for 2 more people to join our party. The first margarita was not bad. It had decent strawberry flavor. After the 2 joined our party, it took quite a while to get the servers' attention to order more drinks and food. I ordered another strawberry margarita and the Fernando Tex-Mex platter. This margarita had so much strawberry mixer in it compared to the first one. It made it too sweet. The Fernando had plenty of food, and the beef enchilada was my favorite. The meat could have been seasoned more to give it more flavor.

Every order is served on a little tray with chopped onion and cilantro on the side along with a little cup of charro beans. I've had the trompo (al pastor), barbacoa, and carne asada, and they were all incredible and VERY generous on the meat. Elote was decent and (as a fun fact) they have a self serve sauce and cheeto/takis dust area that you can top it off with. The restaurant is directly connected to a dessert shop with an expansive dessert menu and freezers full of $1.50 paletas (I suggest the rice flavor - kind of like a horchata on a stick).

Very bad experience. Ordered togo for my family figuring I had plenty of time to get home before…read morethey arrived. I had written down the order details of what everyone wanted so as to not make a mistake. When ordering, the service person kept repeating back something different from what I was saying. There was a line forming and I couldn't make him take the order faster. When ordering large amounts of food I price out the approx total plus sales tax of that city. The person at the register said that I owed $15 more than the figure I had approximated. When I asked for them to clear the order and put it in again, they became quite nasty about having to do it again. After another employee came and cleared out the order, and it was reentered into the register it had dropped down to being $4 over my estimate. I went ahead and paid just to get my food and go. They said that they were out of receipt paper for the register so I didn't get one. The place was packed so I stood off to the side and waited. And waited. The tables were constantly filled with trash left on them and scattered across the floor. A person would come out from back and remove the trash from the tables, but then wipe them with a dirty looking towel. The floor was never addressed. After 35 minutes I inquired about my order. They said that since it was a big order it was taking time to fill. I went back to waiting. Several Hispanic families that ordered after I had placed my order had gotten their food and were either finishing up or had already left. Must of their food was the same as what I had ordered. After two more inquiries about my order, it was finally delivered after waiting for over an hour. Although I am not totally fluent in Spanish, I know enough when people are talking about me and not in a favorable way. Got home after everyone else had arrived and began sorting out the individual orders. Out of 6 orders, 5 were either wrong or were missing an item. I don't know which was worse, the food being cold, the items swimming in grease (which had congealed), or the burnt and/or gristle rich tortillas and meats. I thought that this place would be great after several people who go there regularly had recommended it, but this was a waste of money and a disaster of food quality. Never again.

20 people-Friday night-6:30…read more We had a reservation and our long table was ready when we got there. We only had 1 waitress, but she was great even with large group. Chips were thick and crispy . The salsa was spicy. The queso was thick and flavorful. They have a full bar. The menu does list specials. The mojito was light and refreshing. The rhumchata martini was sweet. Food came out quickly and was hot. Everyone liked what they got. Mine was carne adada snd and it came on iron plate. It was tender and flavorful. Restrooms were clean. They offer covered patio seating. Several large TVs for viewing games. Wheelchair accessible.

At no point did my server tell me that there would be an additional $2 charge for the substitution. Had he told me, I simply would have kept the rice and beans that came with the meal. When the bill arrived, I noticed the extra $2 charge and questioned it. Instead of simply acknowledging that the additional charge had not been communicated to me when I ordered, the server sent the manager over. The manager ultimately refunded the $2, but his attitude was unnecessarily rude. He told me that the menu explains there is a $2 upcharge. Regardless of what may be printed on the menu, when a customer specifically requests a substitution that carries an additional charge, I believe the server should clearly mention it when taking the order. This wasn't really about $2. It was about communication and customer service. A simple, "Just so you know, there's a $2 upcharge for the vegetables," would have prevented the entire issue. Instead, I left feeling like my concern was treated as an inconvenience rather than a reasonable customer-service issue. I will not be returning because of how I was treated.
