They are a supporter of peace run and Sri Chinmoy Oneness. All the staff is wearing a traditional outfit from India as uniform. Songs and music are playing and allowing customer to have a true relaxation both physically and mentally. The staff here are nice and friendly. I can hardly find a place like that in NYC. I acknowledged my favorite dish, Mozzarella Nirvana with avocado is off the menu, and I have no choice to not study the menu u again. I see that many eggs and omelette options is been added. They also offer daily special with soup and salad. I picked the Lentil soup with Kale this time. The kale added mineral to the originally nutritious lentil soup and it blended really well.the tomatoes tase is well balanced and made my recently weakened gut very happy. The little multigrain bun added satisfaction to the whole meal. I did not regret coming today and I am truly happy physically and mentally. Calvin

I was so wonderfully surprised to find this vegetarian and vegan diner. The name alone, Smile of…read morethe Beyond, is so unique and quirky, and I loved it. They always have vegan pancakes on the menu, but when I went, the special was vegan peach and mango pancakes piled high with vegan whipped cream and a little cinnamon. They were some of the most flavorful vegan pancakes I've ever had. The vegan bacon was the best I've ever had, perfectly crisp. The Ginger Blast drink was the perfect spicy, refreshing addition. The whole place has such a peaceful, distinctive vibe. They play soothing, meditative music, like the kind you'd hear in a spa, and they have cute inspirational cards that make the experience feel even more special. The diner has been around since 1972, and that sense of character really comes through. It's owned and operated by students of spiritual teacher, poet, and philosopher Sri Chinmoy, which helps explain the calm, uplifting atmosphere. If you're anywhere near here, definitely go.

We went on a Saturday morning, which was busy but it was only a 10 minute wait for a roomy booth. We ordered a vegan egg, cheese and sausage sandwich and a vegan Philly cheesesteak. The Philly was delicious and the flavor was amazing. The breakfast sandwich was just okay. One thing I was surprised about was that nothing else came with our orders, unlike general diners. No greens, breakfast hash, fries, etc. So when ordering, keep that in mind. The strawberry banana smoothie was so good and the ginger shot was good value for the price. We were still a bit hungry so we grabbed a cookie from the front cashier and had it added to our bill. I would come back, pretty much because it's the only vegetarian/vegan diner that I know of.

This review is ONLY about the food and my experience eating here. I stumbled across this spot and stopped in because I was curious about the food since it was vegeterian and I was on a no-meat cleanse. It's a bit inconspicuous so you may not even realize it's a restaurant from the outside. That being said, it seems to be a very popular vegetarian spot in the area and has a good variety of vegetarian Indian dishes as well as Western vegetarian dishes. The spot is midsized, with a good amount of seating. The staff were very friendly and helpful with questions about the dishes. I ordered a few items - vegetables pakora, bhajia, and the Annam Brahma dinner. I also tried their chai. Overall, the food wasn't too bad and was a good portion for the price. I loved the chai and also ordered a mango lassi, which was also very tasty. The pakora and bhajia were delicious and paired well with the sauce. The Annam Brahma dinner was filling although I wish it has a bit more seasoning. Overall, this is a good spot for vegetarian food if you're in the neighborhood and looking for a good vegetarian spot.

I ordered the short ribs and the five-onion soup again, and both were excellent. The service was spot-on and impressively quick--my food arrived in under 15 minutes. The owner is also really cool; he personally greets guests and makes a point of chatting with the performers to ensure they're comfortable. This is a wonderfully romantic spot. The beautiful flowers add such a nice touch (as I mentioned in my previous review). While it's not fully upscale, it has an elevated, sophisticated vibe that makes you want to dress up for the occasion. Highly recommended!

Well, at least business was "Blooming" due to Mother's Day reservations…read more All jokes aside, I visited this restaurant yesterday for a Mother's Day brunch with a group of eight others. Our reservation had been confirmed the day before by both our host and the restaurant. When I arrived early, I was surprised to find the place jam-packed and clearly overcrowded. The front-of-house staff, along with the presumed owner, seemed overwhelmed and initially could not locate our 12:00 reservation. There were also guests with 11:30 and later reservations that were still waiting to be seated, along with several other groups scheduled around our time. After waiting nearly 50 minutes, talking with others who were also waiting, and watching two other tables be hastily set up and filled, we were finally seated. The table had been quickly wiped down and set with placemats, but it was missing silverware and several glasses. Most of this was resolved fairly quickly, though two people still never received glasses, with one person asking a few times for one. Our clearly overworked waitress brought us water and eventually took our order after a shorter additional wait. I ordered a $6 cappuccino, which was enjoyable, with a moderate amount of foam and a pleasantly bitter flavor without tasting over-roasted. However, another person's $4.50 iced coffee did not seem worth the price, as it appeared to be no more than a 12-ounce glass and was mostly filled with ice. Outside of coffee, the staff was understandably slow with water, with long waits, and we finally got a pitcher near the end of the meal. For my meal, I chose the $16 Poached Browns, which included two poached eggs, pulled pork, an English muffin, hollandaise sauce, and their Bloom hash. Many minutes later, and I mean many, the eggs were properly poached and were the highlight of the dish. The pulled pork, served without any additional sauce, was dry, and the small amount of hollandaise did little to help. The hash on the side lacked crispiness and vegetables, aside from what might have been a tiny piece of chopped yellow pepper. Overall, it was below average but passable. Two others ordered the Make Your Own Omelette for $19, which comes with a choice of three ingredients, the same hash, and bacon. They made two specific requests, both of which our waitress confirmed: first, that they did not want bacon, and second, that they could substitute fries for the hash--regular fries for one person and sweet potato fries for the other. Despite this, both plates arrived with bacon, as you can see in my first photo, where one of them transferred her bacon to my plate. The other person sent her plate back and ended up receiving her Mother's Day meal well after everyone else. The omelette also looked a bit more like a frittata, which I didn't mind. After waiting a while, including finally getting pitchers of water, we finally left after a long and annoying bunch. If this spot indeed had reservation issues, why on earth were they still allowing walk-ins? Why did they tell people it would take 15-20 minutes to seat when it would clearly take 30+? This entire experience was inept from beginning to end. The food this time is closer to a 2, but our experience as a whole was closer to a 1. I would never go back.

Everyone is always smiling, super friendly, down to their youngest daughter who helped serve our large group food a few weeks ago when they started their weekend AYCE brunch. The buffet was full of great items like their Curry Crab, Goat Soup, Eggplant, Okra, String Hopper, Black Pork Curry, and much more. Don't miss out on the station full of different types of condiments and sambol sauces. My entire group of 15 were all quite impressed with the food selection, as well as the service. Everyone left stuffed and satisfied. Can't wait to come back for a formal meal and try more of the regular menu.

What a hidden gem!! This place has the best Sri Lankan food I've tried in the states. The interior…read moreis clean and the staffs are friendly. I read their webpage on the story of the restaurant. It is own by a Sri Lankan couple - one Singhalese and one Tamil. Their love represents the union of the two groups of folks who had long lasting conflict and tension in the country. At this restaurant, you can experience the culinary fusion of the two distinct tradition. We ordered: - mutton roll 5/5 - calamari lamprais 6/5 AMAZING!! - deviled king fish 5/5 Their mutton roll is stuffed with filling - I love how thin the crust is, you really get a taste of the chunky juicy protein. The lamprais is infused with the aromantic banana leaf, along with the colorful and spiceful sides. They are so generous with their portions. It was my first time trying lamprais and I'm now addicted. I highly recommend getting this dish. One thing about Sri Lankan food is it tends to be on the spicer side (think Thai spicy). We were glad to see all items on the menu had a "mild" option. The lamprais is a safe option for those that can't eat spicy. The deviled king fish (mackerel) is a popular fish consumed in Sri Lanka. We got mild but it was still spicy. It was flavored so nicely so if you like spice and saucy dishes, this is the one for you! It was served with bell peppers and onions. We were so full we didn't get to try their desserts but they have many classic desserts options as well! We can't wait to be back to try their curry and other dishes. This place was such a nice hidden gem I really hope everyone will come give it a try!

Honestly, even if it isn't your normal go-to, I promise you should venture outside of your comfort zone and give it a try. As soon as I stepped in I was transported to a golden palace. The place is adorned with gold and bling, the chandelier caught my eye immediately! It's decorated with cultural trinkets and I truly felt transported a bit, it was simply beautiful and I had a strong feeling that whatever I was about to eat was going to be fire. I'm familiar with Indian cuisine and am a huge fan, but vegetarian?! I'm a strong carnivore but was excited to exit my norm and try something new. Why not right? AND BABY THEY DIDN'T DISAPPOINT! When feeling adventerous, and hungry, the best thing to do is have them bring out a few different standouts so you can really get a diverse range of offerings. And I'm so glad I did. Now, we're here for the food of course: Gobi Chilli -- Fried cauliflower in a sticky mild spicy chili sauce. Crispy on the outside, soft & tender on the inside, and absolutely addictive. I had to stop myself from licking the plate. Masala Fries -- Crispy, golden, and served with a tamarind sauce and a mint chutney that both deserve their own fan clubs. I need bottles of each in my house yesterday. Tandoori Mix Grill -- This one threw me. It's their version made with cottage cheese--and let me be clear, I don't even like cottage cheese. But somehow, this was smoky, juicy, and downright good. I was shocked and impressed. Shahi Paneer -- A curry where paneer is cooked in a creamy sauce made with onions, yogurt, nut and seeds. Rich, flavorful, and comforting. It gave "I've been simmering all day just waiting for you." Amritsari Kulcha -- Buttery, crispy, garlicky, and elite. Dipped in the chickpeas and yogurt? That bite was a moment. And the Vanilla Bubble Tea? I don't know what kind of magic was in there, but it tasted like a milkshake and might honestly be the best one I've ever had. See what happens when you venture out?! The staff was kind and the food came out hot and fast. Everything looked good, smelled good, and most importantly--tasted good. Queens got another winner on its hands. I'll be back. Probably soon.
