I am submitting this complaint regarding what I believe were deceptive, coercive, and retaliatory business practices by a tree removal company. I contracted with the company to perform tree removal services at my residence and paid $5,000 for the project. The crew arrived at approximately 8:30 a.m. and departed around 3:30 p.m. After inspecting the property, I discovered that a portion of the agreed-upon work remained unfinished. Based on the scope of the remaining work, it appeared that less than one additional hour of labor by a single worker would have completed the job. The following day, I contacted the company and requested that they return to finish the work for which I had already paid. Rather than honoring what I believed to be their contractual obligation, I was informed that the company would not return unless I paid additional money. In effect, I was asked to pay more in order to receive services that should have been completed under the original agreement. What should have been a routine customer-service matter quickly escalated into a campaign of intimidation. When I disputed the demand for additional payment and continued to request completion of the work, the company's manager threatened legal action against me. Instead of attempting to resolve the dispute professionally, company representatives resorted to personal attacks and accusations unrelated to the services provided. Most troubling, I received written threats that the company would contact my employer and my husband's employer in an effort to "expose" me as a racist. These threats were made despite the fact that I had not published any review, made any public statements, or otherwise damaged the company's reputation. At the time the threats were issued, I had merely stated that I was considering leaving a review regarding my experience. The company's conduct appeared designed to silence a dissatisfied customer through fear, intimidation, and threats of professional harm. Threatening to interfere with a customer's employment because that customer requested completion of contracted work is wholly inappropriate and, in my view, constitutes retaliatory conduct intended to suppress legitimate consumer complaints. Rather than addressing concerns regarding incomplete work, the company responded with threats of litigation, threats to contact employers, accusations of racism, and warnings that their legal team would pursue claims against me. I am requesting that this matter be reviewed by the Federal Trade Commission to determine whether the company's conduct constitutes unfair or deceptive business practices, consumer intimidation, or retaliation against a customer attempting to resolve a dispute regarding incomplete services. I have retained documentation of the relevant communications, including the written threats referenced above, and am prepared to provide them upon request. read more

I requested an estimate over a year ago when my husband first passed away. I had many things break down and had to put it on the back burner. When I called Jake's again they came right out and gave me the previous quoted price. I am so thankful for that. I was notified when they would be out for removal and approximate time. They were on time that day. The tree was an 80 ft oak that just loomed over my house. I was pretty nervous but when the crew went to work, I was immediately at ease and confident it would go smoothly. It did. They worked steady the whole time. No damage was done which was amazing to me. A lot of loud bangs but I expected more with it. They arrived the next day to haul away a few large pieces that did t fit on the rig and to grind the stump. They really were respectful, nice and efficient. I would highly recommend them. Update: Someone called on Jakes behalf this morning and asked if I would take down my previous review detailing the terrible job they did. I said I would take it down if Jake paid me my thirty dollars for the cancelled check and throw in another 20 for the aggravation. Later in the day Jake called and started rewriting history as to the events of the day. He was basically gaslighting me. I asked the purpose of the call and he said he wanted to negotiate. He would give me 15 of the 30 and I would remove the review. I could not believe what I was hearing. He is quibbling over $15.00? When I insisted he refund my $30, he threatened me that if I didnt take the review down in 24 hours he was going to sue me for extortion and that I was a horrible person for writing a bad review and that if he knew where I worked he would go there and complain about me. Yeah, this is Jake. Why am I not surprised he showed no concern about my questions of the job? I will never take down this review. Everyone should know who they are dealing with. read more

Him and his crew work for 8 hours on our yard in Flushing, tookout over 9 bushes and an 18 foot tree. I don't recommend working with this company. After signing the contract, it took them 10 weeks to complete the work. We had to call many times to ask for an update. They trimmed two trees as agreed, but did not trim the third in the contract tree as agreed. The tree looks really ugly, and we will have to pay another contractor to finish their job. The crew was very rude and the communication poor. I recommend that you stay away from this company. read more

By far the best tree service I've ever used. They knew exactly what they were doing, covering curbs and grass and sidewalks and considering the size of the tree, craned the tree around the house with ease. The guys busted their butts and it was awesome watching and learning. Hats off to Jake's Tree Service. This is incredible. The business owner Jake's rebuttal to my review is totally MADE UP. First off my wife was happy with the dead tree you cut down at the top of the hill near the mailboxes for our homeowners assocation. She was NOT happy with the work you performed for us. She is very upset with what you did to the tree behind our deck, and is really MAD the branches over our roof can never be trimmed back because of what you did to the limbs over our deck. Now regarding the limbs, you first told me over the phone you cut them down because the proposal said to "elevate" the tree. That was made up, as the proposal said no such thing. Your arborist even got on the phone with you, and said to me the three limbs would "grow back" which is ridiculous ! Now you are trying to cover yourself by claiming those three large limbs were dead. Well, I got news for you. Your crew actually dragged those limbs in the front of the woods behind my house, rather than put them in the chipper. They were huge healthy limbs with complete foliage on them, and were NOT dead. If you like I can post pictures of the limbs you claim were dead. Matter of fact, I am sure I have recent pictures of the whole tree just before you came. Stop making stuff up about the limbs! I would have more respect for your company if you just said, "you know what we screwed up, I know you are upset, how can I make it right". I would have said you can not undo what you did to the tulip poplar, but since I have large woods in the back of my house, I will check whether one of those trees can be transplanted next to the tulip poplar, so the deck can get shade in the summer, and not be unbearable to sit on without the limbs you mistakenly cut. read more

The fairly large tree on our front lawn split and fell. It fell onto my car in the driveway and onto the lawn. It was a great shock. I called Jake's and he came the same day- a Saturday. His team came that same day-big vehicles, a monster chipper, etc. His workers were fast, nice to talk to, very neat, and efficient. I then wondered how much it would cost to get rid of the stump. We came downstairs one morning, and saw that the stump was gone! I called Jake, and he told me that there was no additional charge for the stump removal! Then he interfaced with my insurance company and had them give me thousands of dollars more that they originally quoted me! What more could anyone ask? read more

I just had Jake's Tree Service remove a cluster of dead Ash trees in my yard. I dealt with Carl and Rufino at the job site and they were excellent. With a large crane, the gentlemen were very careful not to damage my property and were professional with removing the trees. Carl and Rufino were excellent at explaining the removal process and any safety concerns. The job was completed with excellent results. They did a great job, my tree looks gorgeous! The tree was on the top of the detached garage and they were very careful. They remove all the debris even the ones I had prior to their service. The crew were very friendly and they have a great fair price. . They were very respectful, to my neighbors and the property. The landscapers were fine (we had them do one days work) but Jake blew off a meeting with me on June 15th to schedule more work, after we had texted to confirm meeting, did not inform me ahead of time that he was canceling, only told me had to put it off a week when I asked him via text when he was coming, then when I texted him to ask when he was coming a week later he said he never made appointment since I did not confirm the meeting, he never asked for confirmation, since he canceled and bagged the last meeting last minute, the ball was in his court. Very very pleased with Jake's Landscaping! Jake is very honest and his team really delivers!

Sadly very disappointed with Jake's Landscaping. We requested and were given an estimate for our rear yard to be completely ripped out and all new seed put down along with removal of some trees. The first phase went great with removal of trees, stumps, and debris. The second phase was not completed as requested or quoted for. Only the outer edges of our yard were completed and the center of the yard was never touched. Additionally, our down spout and part of our siding was destroyed by his workers. When my husband called to ask about the job not being completed Jake was completely unprofessional, immature, and inappropriate towards my husband. Jake stated he would come back the next day and just dump everything back into our yard. This was along with other insults and comments toward my husband during and hour phone call of Jake yelling at him. All we were asking was for the job which we contacted him to do and had documented multiple times in writing that we wanted to be completed appropriately. Rather than handle the situation like a professional business owner he turned to insults and immature unprofessionalism. We were very disappointed. read more
