Jake's Cafe on Second Stree in Snohomish is exactly what I have been looking for. It was my first visit and I got the last avaialabl table. We were in town for a swim meet and after a long morning we were looking for a heary and tasty meal. Jake's looked interesting with a local vibe. Decor was old school diner. My kid wanted a burger and fries but I was looking for something a little more interesting. Immediately upon walking in we were welcomed from behind the counter and directed to a table. Within a minute we were presented menus and given another warm welcome and a heavy white cup ready for my coffee. The menu had a few options for my kid's burger (He chose a cheeseburger, no surprises there.) and I was pleasantly shocked by the variety of salads, sandwiches, and soups. After changing my mind three times I took a risk on their Monte Cristo, a favorite for brunch. We both agreed that the food and service were very good. My Monte Cristo was perfect with the right amount of egg, cheese and meet. Quartered, skewered and served with a fruity jam. Cute spot, old traditional cafe spot in DT Snohomish. Not a big restaurant so kind of hard with a larger party. It was busy on a Saturday morning so felt claustrophobic a bit. Also, when they put two tables together.. they didn't take away any duplicate items like napkin dispensers etc so didn't leave us much room. I ended up getting the pancake combo meal. Wow the size of their pancakes are so impressive! Nice & fluffy too. Everything else was lacking flavor wise. Bacon was thin & filmsy.. eggs & hashbrowns were just ok and oily. Wow, these people make you feel like a local. 7 of us walked in for breakfast on our grandson's 7th birthday. We were seated immediately and were nearly swarmed with coffee, water, and hot chocolate. I've been to Jake's many times before but don't think up be going back. The last few times my wife and I have gone, not only was the food not great (they take greasy spoon diner to a whole new level), but the other patrons stare at us like we have 3 heads. I know Snohomish isn't the most progressive place, but a lesbian couple isn't completely out of the ordinary, and being gawked and stared at during our entire meal isn't how we expected to spend our morning. Now, please don't mistake my commentary as negative, because those fries were slap my big brother beautifully deeee-licious! We'll revisit those in a minute! So, my favorite way a Monte Cristo is made is with the whole triple-decker sandwich dipped on all sides in the egg batter, with the egg cooked on all sides, with the egg covering all the bread. This sandwich wasn't cooked that way, because each slice was like individual pieces of French Toast sandwiched together.
