We came by the area for lunch after a long blueberry picking session over in Mountainview. The downtown area is kind of nice, though parking in most of it was extremely difficult impossible. This restaurant, though, had its own parking! and a little street parking nearby, which is extremely appreciated. The decor is CRAZY (kind of fun to look at, in the reading-but-never-wanting-my-own-bumper-sticker kind of way). The server was SO friendly and we had a great time. Service was fine only complaint I really wanted a refill on water. Their food is really good regardless if you get the breakfast or lunch items. An over super solid breakfast/brunch place. The inside is quite small so if you go on a weekend be prepared for a wait or a line for a table but I highly recommend this spot as any wait is worth it. This was a terrific spot to stop for a late morning breakfast. We grabbed two seats at the counter and were immediately greeted and welcomed. Hubby ordered coffee and I had iced tea. I didn't try the coffee but my ice tea was great. We decided to split the Gutbuster omelette. And it's good we did because it was a huge plate of food. Truly lived up to its name. I have to admit the hashbrowns were PERFECT! Crispy on the outside, not oily, and thick and soft on the inside. The omelette filling was super tasty! One thing I will say...it looks like ALL the dishes are more than generous. When I saw the fries go by on someone else's plate, I almost regretted not ordering some because they looked so legit. But it'll just give me another reason to come back. Both waitresses we interacted with were super friendly and attentive. It's amazing how they successfully juggled guests and plates. Our first time visiting there today, was outstanding and the portions were huge, there clam chowder with bacon was best I've ever had delicious for sure it filled me up with a cup of coffee and I was good but I still had ordered a burger the burger was outstanding. Great place for breakfast! This was my first time at Jake's. I came in first thing on Sunday morning. There were already a few patrons waiting outside when I arrived. There was plenty of parking on Rainer, but that filled up pretty fast. I was seated immediately since I was among the first in. Great atmosphere. Lots of car and celebrity memorabilia primarily 1950's to 1980's. The food was excellent and the portions large. My hash browns were perfection, nice and crispy on the outside. The service was friendly and attentive. I guess my only complaint would be the prices seemed a little high, but not outrageously so, just more than I anticipated and it wouldn't prevent me from returning, which I absolutely will. 5/5 all day long. read more

My family and I have been coming here for YEARS, and we still love it! They make the best hot chocolate and root beer floats. Their hamburgers are tasty and their omelets can't be beat. Sadly, I can no longer eat gluten or dairy or egg whites. After a few years of only eating steak or burgers on a gf bun, I was really missing my old standard of a veggie omelet with bacon. When we were in the area over Christmas, I tried something new that was almost perfect. When we went back last week, I perfected my idea that they graciously and wonderfully made to accommodate my needs. We were in town for a swim meet and after a long morning we were looking for a heary and tasty meal. Jake's looked interesting with a local vibe. Decor was old school diner. My kid wanted a burger and fries but I was looking for something a little more interesting. Immediately upon walking in we were welcomed from behind the counter and directed to a table. Within a minute we were presented menus and given another warm welcome and a heavy white cup ready for my coffee. The menu had a few options for my kid's burger (He chose a cheeseburger, no surprises there.) and I was pleasantly shocked by the variety of salads, sandwiches, and soups. After changing my mind three times I took a risk on their Monte Cristo, a favorite for brunch. We both agreed that the food and service were very good. My Monte Cristo was perfect with the right amount of egg, cheese and meet. Quartered, skewered and served with a fruity jam. The hash browns were crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and the biscuit was a good solid tender biscuit. I just couldn't finish it all! I ate half my omelet and biscuit, and only a couple of bites of my hash browns even though I was hungry. The place we is cute, very 50s diner with lots of nostalgia hanging all over the walls, and 50s and 60s music playing. The waitress was friendly to her regulars and just cordial to us, but was friendly when she was giving us our bill. Came into Jake's for a after church nosh on a beautiful, Sunny Sunday afternoon. As a Monte Cristo addict, I had to try their version of the sandwich. But, I couldn't help but notice some of the food being served at the tables around me. There was an egg dish that put any other to shame. It seriously was the size of a small hay bale. I asked about it and found out it's good either for splitting or for multiple eatins. Let me get back to my meal -- the dish was served with a plethora of fries. In fact, there were so many fries that you almost couldn't see the sandwich, which was cut into triangles, 3rd. Now, please don't mistake my commentary as negative, because those fries were slap my big brother beautifully deeee-licious! We'll revisit those in a minute! So, my favorite way a Monte Cristo is made is with the whole triple-decker sandwich dipped on all sides in the egg batter, with the egg cooked on all sides, with the egg covering all the bread. This sandwich wasn't cooked that way, because each slice was like individual pieces of French Toast sandwiched together.
