One of the best burgers I've ever had, nice and juicy, the vibe was pretty good and everything was clean

My family and I had a very disappointing experience at Jake's Burgers in Waco, TX. We had spent the entire day at a football tournaments. Some parents who said they were acquaintances of the owners highly recommended we stop at Jake's for dinner. Because of that recommendation, our party of 8 chose to visit. When we walked in, no one was at the front to greet us or take our order. After a couple of minutes, an employee named Tommy came sashaying out from the back. He walked passed us with noticeable attitude, and said, "I'll get with you as soon as I can, but it's gonna be a minute just letting you know." His tone was rude and unprofessional. I responded very politely, "Well, good evening to you too," hoping to lighten the moment. My sister then told him he was being rude. As Tommy walked toward the counter area, he mumbled clearly enough for several of my family members to hear "Well, you can always go somewhere else." My sister, who is a high school coach, immediately said, "You know what, we'll do just that." As our family members walked out. I stayed behind to ask Tommy why he would say something like that. He denied it, even though my sister, my eight‑year‑old son, and my daughter all heard him. They repeated his words at the same time. I told him we came based on a recommendation from friends of the owners, and that this was ? extremely disappointing. I also at the time, was trying to reach out to those people, and then decided "Why should I. they recommended the food, not Tommy! Once we exited and stepped, we saw Tommy on the phone. I'm sure this was too obviously speak with someone in charge to cover his lie! Hopefully someone will all view the video footage of this evening. If you can't hear his words, you can certainly make out the eye movement in the sarcasm in his face that definitely lets you know what he mumbled because he's very theatrical, so I'm sure at least that shows. We never even got to taste Jake's Burgers because of the disrespectful way we were greeted. We went next door to Fuego's and had a much better experience. Tommy, your behavior was out of line, rude, and very disappointing. you had no rhyme reason or right to make that type of statement to my family. Perhaps customer service is not your field. Tommy, perhaps you need a less stressful atmosphere, especially when there are only 2 occupied tables are in the establishment. One already eating and the other awaiting their food. read more

I have this friend... a fellow Yelp Elite in Houston TX, who just knows the spots! We happened to venture out to Waco for the day and we needed a little snackie poo before a few hours of shopping. This was honestly the perfect stop we were in and out in about an hour. Customer service was great. We did have two burgers come out wrong at our table. They took care of it promptly with no questions asked. The burgers were great I opted for, "The Jake." I added thousand island dressing and cheese. All the flavors blended nicely and the patty did not lack flavor. The poppy seed bun was a great addition. Overall a great spot for that burger craving and then some. * Men's room could use a little attention but, overall bathrooms were good. Parking is plentiful. Easy on and off highway stop read more

We went for a late lunch, and only one server was working. The restaurant had several dirty tables, again only one person working the front. I ordered the chicken fried chicken sandwich-which was supposed to be spiced but it was not, but still tasted good. My daughter got the Jakes sampler and liked the stuffed jalapeños and mozzarella sticks. The fried pickles, which I've had before, were good but clumped together. The rest of the people at our table ordered a single burger, cheese quesadilla, and a chicken fried stake-which she said was so good. Our waitress did her best and was helpful when we asked questions. read more

We eat here quite often and tonight wasn't a great experience. There was 7 table with trash on them and no place to sit. Also they used to come to the table to take our order which gave it a different vibe to interact with people. read more

The lady at the window was very sweet and gave us time to order. The restaurant was so cute and had an old timey feeling! The food was incredible--one of the best burgers I've had, buffalo mac and cheese was the best thing by far, and the quesadilla was new and yummy. Got these three things, a side of fries, and onion rings--came out to be just under $45. read more

We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday. Staff was friendly and helpful. The burgers were excellent. The poppyseed bun was messy but worth it. While it's on the smaller side inside, there were tvs as well as tables, high tables and booths. We will definitely be eating here again. read more

Good lunch or dinner stop between Dallas and Austin with easy on/off access to I-35. The Bottlecap Burger features two beef patties topped with cheese and breaded jalapeño chips. Their signature poppyseed buns are wonderfully soft and fluffy. Fries were also decent, although slightly on the brown side. Several beers on tap and even more available by the can or bottle. Spacious patio is comfortable in nice weather as long as you don't mind the roar of traffic on I-35. Our server Melanie was great. read more

So every once and a while we venture to Dallas and some reason always happen to drive when we need a meal. Tired of the traditional fast food restaurants we happened upon this place. We were looking for a little more unique but still drive thru status if you know what I'm sayin'. These hamburgers are BIG. As big or bigger than my palm for sure. Flavor wise...maybe could have used a little extra seasoning for my taste. But, if your looking for something that's portion enough to fill your tummy and settle that hunger rumble - this is your joint. read more

Service and yummy cheeseburger and onion rings. Waitress seating. Homemade buns I think either topped with seeds or not. I got the one with seeds and was really good and fresh. Hubby got the plain bun. The seeds though were a little messy eating. Onion rings were homemade I think. Very good. They have beer too there. Fast off I35 going north. A lot of older people there so you know a good place! read more

Could you please open in Spring, TX? I mean why should Waco have all the fun? Best burgers, hot, fresh and perfectly seasoned. Beer battered onion rings, crunchy good. White cheese nuggets, fabulous. Soda served in frosted mugs. Absolutely the most delightful serving team. Upbeat and handling the crowd with aplomb. Please come to Spring, we are hungry for what you are serving. Or The Woodlands. I was so excited to see the Jakes in Waco as I have great memories of visiting Jakes for awesome burgers in Dallas years ago. We stopped for lunch on a Sunday afternoon roadtrip back to Austin. The atmosphere inside is clean and open with a good sized patio outside which is right next to the highway but has plenty of seating for groups and TVs. The Jake burger was tasty, and I really enjoyed the onion rings. The kids enjoyed the kids burger and Mac and cheese and loved that chips and queso is an option for a kids side. Service was a little slow but overall we had a good experience and would recommend this spot for a good burger when in the area. read more

My buffalo chicken sandwich was the best I have ever had. The sandwich was not messy like others I've had at other places. Our server was attentive, he repeated our orders back to confirm them. He was quick with the drinks and kept us informed about the time our meal was to come out. The only issue was the noise. The music was loud and it was hard to hear others at our table. I'm definitely coming back. read more

For the appetizers, I recommend the bottle caps very tasty and cooked just right with a side of ranch dressing. Just had a regular cheeseburger. It was cooked to perfection and the bun was moist. Really wanted to like this place. We've been to the one in Ft Worth and it was really great. Maybe since this is a new location they have some things to work out but I expected more from an already established chain restaurant. The atmosphere was really great. That was probably the best part. I like how it feels like a sit down place but it also feels very casual. The patio is also really nice. I like how they have a decent variety of draft beers on tap. Our server was really nice. He seemed pretty attentive to our needs and kept up with our table. Our drinks went fairly low a couple of times but usually not for very long. The food was really disappointing though. Our tarot tots tasted like funnel cakes, which was weird. I'm assuming fried them in the same oil as a dessert item. My black bean burger was super dry but not as dry as the poppy seed bun it was sandwiched between. My burger also had literally no sauce on it. I didn't take a photo of that burger unfortunately. I'm not sure if dry buns is Jake's thing but this place had super dry buns. If it's their style then maybe it's just not for me. My significant other order the patty melt. The bread here was also dry but not as dry as my bun. Herr burger tasted a lot more flavorful and was more moist than mine. Honestly, I would give them another shot since maybe it was an off night, but if it's like this next time then I will likely go to Billy Bobs for my burger fix in Waco. If I return I will update my review. 2/5 food 4/5 atmosphere 4/5 service 4/5 price 4/5 menu options read more

Best burgers in Waco and best patty melt I've ever had in my life, crazy part is the cooks are on the same page because it's always the same. Don't leave without a shake. Hand cut fries dipped in the strawberry shake is without a doubt a guilty pleasure you'll be happy to run an extra mile for. I'm not a paid spokes person lol. Just really love their patty melt. read more

Great Food and great service! We were driving through Waco and wanted something a little better than fast food. This was perfect! They were pretty busy, so it took a little bit to get our food. (I give them a bit of grace because they are still pretty new.... Only have been open for about a month) We got the Jake's Special Burger and the Bacon and Blue Burger with cheddar fries.. everything was very good and very friendly service. This is a great place to stop if you're in Waco. read more

My husband's co-worker highly recommended we eat here. He knows how much my husband loves a good burger. Unfortunately, it did not meet all the hype. My husband had the traditional double cheeseburger w/ fries and I ordered the party melt w/ onion rings. The food came to us rather quicky after ordering which proved to be a bad sign. Our burgers were greasy, the bread on my patty melt wasn't toasted so all the grease just eased through on my hands. There was a slight unpleasant smell to the meat and I couldn't get past it, so I left more than half of my meal. My husband gave his burger a 2.5 out of 5. He said the meat tastes like a frozen patty flipped over a few times and fries were salty. We were really bummed it didn't meet the hype. On a positive note, the service was good, friendly server and very attentive. Off to the next burger joint. read more

My son and I came to Jake's on our monthly burger outing. The restaurant was full and lively so we waited about 10 minutes for a table. The manager personally cleaned a table for us to expedite the process. The dining room is a typical diner/burger joint atmosphere; noisy with good music but not so loud we couldn't talk. Our waitress was quick and charming and got our order right away. She was helpful by suggesting we get the nacho cheese on our cheese fries and promptly turned in our order. We had a short friendly conversation with the manager about the various hot sauces on the table. She recommended the spicy ketchup and the Saddleburn pepper sauce. If you're into hot stuff, definitely try some. Beware, though, it definitely burns. My patty melt was juicy with plenty of grilled onions and a great remoulade sauce that gave it a touch of sweetness. I'm a fan of toasted rye bread and Jake's toasted mine to crispy perfection. My son had the Cheddar Steer burger, your basic bacon cheese burger, on Jake's signature poppy seed bun. The bun was a little sweet and held up well to the juicy patty and crisp bacon. We shared an order of cheese fries that were ok but not outstanding. The ketchup suggested by the manger was a hit being spicy and tangy all at once. Jake's is your typical college campus burger joint. We enjoyed our meal and the experience. However, our food was slow to come out and the kitchen forgot our fries initially then brought the wrong fries. Both the manager and our waitress were quick to get things moving, though. Also, the table set up (ketchup and all) was in desperate need of cleaning. If you're looking for good food and aren't particular, Jake's is well worth a visit. read more
