I absolutely love JakeaBob's - it's the perfect place to relax outdoors and drink/eat on a nice day. This is my go-to summer spot. The seating is all outdoors - there are tables and chairs on decks right over the water. There is even a beautiful view of NYC in the distance. It's a really great atmosphere, and it's the perfect place to sit back with friends and a glass of sangria in hand. The food is also excellent. I hate to give a low rating to someplace I used to really enjoy especially during a pandemic but hoping maybe they will see it and fix issues. I'll also preface this with the fact I spent many years waitressing and it sucks and I never am rude to wait staff. I always calmly tell them of any issues. We were seated and had to wait almost 20 minutes before our waitress approached us for drinks. By then, we knew what we wanted to order. Two soft drinks, one app, two mains. I specifically said we'd like to start with this app. Well, the app and two entrees came out together and it's a pet peeve. After the bus boy dropped them off, the waitress checked on us and I told her calmly, I wasnt expecting the app with the entrees which is why i said we would start with the app. (I mean that's basic waitressing 101 app first.). She just said oh sorry. Really could not gaf. I also asked for some more napkins. 10 minutes later we finally got them. One of our entrees had cut up lemons in it and the sticker was still on it. Just gross. She didnt check on us again until we were complete and i showed her the lemon and she just said oh gross. Almost $100 for 1 app, 2 entrees, 2 soft drinks, crappy service and stickers on fruit. Not worth it. The food was medicore, not as good as 2 years ago. Service was horrible. There are far better places to eat at. I can no longer recommend this place. I'd go back for a drink at the bar but never dining again. read more

Decided to try this place out on a Friday night. The wait was about 40 minutes but we were seated within 25-30 minutes. There's a tiki bar and music to keep the time going. The views are spectacular and it's a pretty big joint. Drinks are nicely priced and portioned and taste very good. Our table decided just to order appetizers since everything looked so good and nothing fell short. Everything was fresh, hot and super tasty. We got the shrimp and clams bowls and they were top notch !! We also ordered buffalo shrimp, quesadillas, buffalo wings some salads etc. Everything was very very good. Maybe I'm not being as understanding of their trailer situation but here's the real scoop - you drag my stay time out, I'll buy more drinks! One thing was worse than the next: Tinga Nachos: dripping with grease, store-bought cheap chips, and shredded lettuce Hawaiian Tuna Tower: $$$ for mostly rice, pre-chopped ahi tuna (that was warm), tomatillo salsa (?), and store-bought chips (see a trend here?) Pulled pork tacos: On a scale from 1-10, this were.. DISGUSTING. Microwaved liquid smoke pork on top of.. you guessed it, store-bought tortillas and hard, microwaved shredded cheese. We sent it back. Waitress was understanding, but almost too quick to comp the tacos. Was shocked when we received the check - still super expensive for crap food and a couple of drinks. Jakeabob's has a killer location, the drinks are fine, and the servers are nice - just stop the food program. Cooking out of trailers just isn't going to happen. read more

Great food and amazing staff. Lots of local bands, so if you go at night, be advised it can get a bit loud. Drinks are super yummy: I highly recommend the rum buckets and mermaid water. It's right on the water, so there's a lovely breeze, but I usually spray myself with bug spray as I am a victim to all mosquitoes, or wear some sunblock since I am also Casper the ghost (no fault to the restaurant ). My boyfriend and I stumbled into Jakeabob's Bay on accident and I'm so happy we did!!! We waited for our table in the bar area and it was the first time ever that I was hoping the buzzer they gave us wouldn't go off because the bar vibe is awesome. Their live band plays songs that people actually like and they do an amaaaazing job covering them! I danced with my boyfriend and sipped on this super refreshing spiked strawberry lemonade with Tito's which reminded me of a slushy and is an absolute hit on a warm day. Then when we got seated for dinner, we were right on the water and our server Charlie is one of the best servers I've ever had!! Super attentive, with a smile on his face the entire night and happily guided us through the menu. We mainly had shrimp and muscles, which I think is a must here. Also, their food & drink prices are insanely reasonable. Then after dinner we went back to the bar to dance and sing along with everyone before we left. Great waterfront bar! Bartender Matt makes the best drinks I've ever had. Extremely crowded on the weekends and a bit pricy for food.

Had a great bar experience here with friends! They usually always have live music from local artists, which gives a relaxed vibe. The food is delicious, I'm personally a fan of their pulled pork tacos! And if you're getting a drink the Island rum bucket is my favorite! Yet another awesome meal here! Today was lunch. Ocean was angry and windy enough to close the umbrellas but who cares!!!! It's Jersey shore food. I had a new dish from a new menu. It was Josie's Big Three, I think. Shrimp, lump crab and clams in a garlic, wine, butter broth over pasta. Seafood heaven. The flavor was pure ocean seafood. Without a spoon I was sopping up the broth with toasted good bread, probably Portuguese style bread. When I ran out of bread I used the clam shell....oh yes I did. Husband had the crab cakes again. Why? Because he has to have them; he enjoys them so much. Sangria was also great. Service was spot on. I've been here a couple of times previously for drinks and everything was fine. Love the location and they have live bands occasionally on weekends. But last weekend my friend and I decided to go grab a bite to eat here with his dog. We called ahead of time and spoke with a hostess to confirm that the place was dog-friendly and she said it was. Fast forward a few hours later when we show up and an incredibly rude, blonde-ish middle aged woman at the front desk tells us that there's no way we can come in with "that dog" because "this is a restaurant." *cue confused face* Has this woman really never seen a dog-friendly restaurant before? I politely explained that we had called earlier and were told that the restaurant was dog-friendly by someone on the phone and she refused to acknowledge that and just kept repeating that "this is a restaurant." We then asked if we could have a seat at the perimeter of the restaurant near the sidewalk and we would tie the dog outside near our table. Her response, I shit you not, was "no the town won't allow that because what if the dog bites someone?" I'm sorry, WHAT. Can't that argument be made about literally every dog anywhere? So all dogs in Union Beach are banned from being outside of their home? I actually never heard of the place before. My fiancee heard about it and decided to try it. It was a VERY hot but there was a great breeze. I loved being on the ocean, eating, drinking and seeing a view of New York in the distance. I ordered a Strawberry Daiquiri for my drink which was delicious! We shared the Buffalo Shrimp appetizer which was great but a super small portion for $13. Lastly, I got the Watermelon and Chicken salad which was extremely fresh and flavorful. We shared the seafood tower and I'd say half the items were great and the other half lacked flavor. Such a cool place! I heard that it never recovered after Sandy, the kitchen is working out of a trailer, and the seating is all on the dock over the water which is great. The place was pretty busy but we got seats right away, all the way at the end of the dock which was super cool. Our server Cole was great I loved everything about the way he helped us pick out something good and how attentive he was. We enjoyed some crispy wings, A pork belly BLT and an amazing cod fish taco, which came out so crispy and fried but also so juicy inside... I had a hard time eating it all! You don't want to leave a drop of the awesome sauce. Burgers are big and juicy. PB&J burger - oh yes! With the fries, I always get 2 meals out of it. Drinks - red or white sangria are perfect for a hot day or night. The rum buckets are huge! A huge selection or beers and good wines. Live entertainment every night. We planned on continuing to buy drinks and hang out there where she was comfortable. The bouncer kept coming over to us telling us we HAD TO MOVE bc people who order food sit there. BUT it was 10:30 at night and there was NOT a single person waiting by the front entrance to be seated for dinner. I mentioned that my friend is on crutches and really just needed to sit and still we were told to leave. 2 more times on our way out of the bar area he told us to move. Both times we were standing trying to figure out if we should leave or stay. I don't know if we'll be back. The rules are at the bar are pretty ridiculous. We're a bunch of quiet moms in our 40's just looking to have a few drinks and listen to music. But the bouncers made it very difficult.
