We have an enormous Catalpa tree that grows extremely fast and full. We wanted a heavy trim before fall hits with full force giving us a yard full of leaves on the daily. This is an odd review, because I did not end up hiring them. But I wish I had. I ended up hiring a different company for a slightly better price, but that person did not follow through with the services and totally left the front door area a mess after saying he would come back to finish once he dumped his truckload. I needed a major yard clean up since I had not done any yard work for a year because I had to take care of a sick parent. My brother highly recommended them because the person worked for another company did good work at his house and is now trying to start his own business. I'm thinking, "Just because the person did good work while at another company doesn't mean they can run their own business." How right I was. My brother contacted them to schedule an appt to get an estimate. The company schedule for May 25, which happens to be Memorial Day weekend. Time comes they're not there. He calls, they say they'll be there in 10 minutes. Call in 15 minutes they say they have to reschedule for the following week. They come the following week. We show them what needs to be done. One of the major job is clearing out a lot of thorny blackberry vines. We show them and tell them there is a lot and they say they can do it along with the other landscaping, i.e. tree and shrub trim. We get an estimate during the week with the job taking a few days, frankly it seemed quite expensive. We say we'll think about it. A few days later they say they will give us a 25% discount. Again we say we'll think about it. About 1.5 weeks later we decide to use them only because my brother says they will do a good job and he said he would be there to supervise for me. We let them know and from that point it was one thing after another. Have to keep this short because they rescheduled 3 times. 1 - Scheduled for June 25th. Emailed to confirm, we are told can't make it but they will come next day June 26th. 2 - They email on the 25th to say can't make it on 26th because of health issue. But will come the following week on July 2nd. I'm thinking that's 4th of July week. Given they didn't come on Memorial Day weekend are they really going to work that week? 3 - Emailed June 30th to confirm and wouldn't you know it they will not be there because, they claim, their worker left for the week for 4th of July without telling them. So they will be there the next week, July 9th. At this point the work has been pushed out 3 weeks. They show up on July 9th and I meet them first. They see the blackberry vines on the side of the house, which obviously has grown more in 3 weeks, and said they did not see that when they came to look and will have to charge us more. I say, we told them about it and how could they not have see it? I just say talk to my brother since I'm not happy they are trying to change the contract and asking for more money. Brother arrives about 10-15 minutes later and talks to them and told the same. I talk to my brother saying that doesn't seem right and they should have seen the vines. They go to backyard to look at what needs to be done. Long story short, they wanted to charge extra for 1. The vines "they did not see" and 2. Supposed extra charge at the dump to dispose the vines. These are separate charges they wanted. I asked how much extra for the "unseen" vines? Without skipping a beat the wife quoted a price that was the 25% discount. Then I just keep asking them how could they not have seen it and they just said the other bush was in the way. Well that's not my fault you didn't see it, we told you about it. And they said it's so over grown it would be a lot of work. I tell them well it's not our fault because you kept rescheduling and of course it going to grow more. The wife whispers to the husband about something. I'm guessing she didn't like how I kept questioning them about the costs and not being sympathetic they "didn't see" the vines. It would have been shorter if they had come when they first scheduled. As for the extra charge for "special" dumping of vines is not true. I called the dump and they said there is no extra charge since it's all handled by machines. Then they wanted us to provide the cash to pay the dump for the charges. At one point they give us some sob story that they are trying to make money because they are starting their own business. You know what, you don't tell customers that because then it's obvious you're trying to charge more money. Anyway, we say how about just working on the landscaping minus the side of the house with the vines at the original quoted price? They said ok and walk back to the front where I thought they were getting the equipment to start the work. The wife come back to us and said they are not going to do the work. We are surprised and asked why. She said she did not like how I was "coming at them" about the costs and them "not seeing" the vines. So they left. Wasting my brother's time (traveled 60 miles and time off work) and having us find another landscaper. I don't know if they are good. Guess only hire them to do simple, straightforward work, and if you're willing to just let them charge you what they say without any resistance or conflict. And have a backup in case they leave you high-and-dry. read more

They were several hundred dollars less the other 3 quotes on got on trimming dead branches, and some other tree pruning we were looking for in our yard. I contacted Jacob from Jakats Tree Services for some urgent work we needed at one of our corporate house townhomes. The HOA was requiring us to remove multiple spots of weeds that had grown very large from the front of the home leading down onto the sidewalk as well as trim our very tall palm trees that were becoming an issue for fire hazard during the summer. My first call to Jakats Jacob he picked up right away and we set up to meet at the house for a quote within the next day. Due to extremely hot weather that had hit the Bay Area I recommended for them to wait a week for the heat to die down. They let me know when they were going to arrive and be done. Everything was done professionally but felt like I could trust them on a personal level as well. They also suggested throwing down some extra bark to spruce up the front plants and it looked AMAZING! I was referred to Jacob from Jakat's Tree Service by another yard clean up service because of some brances that were a little higher up. Jacob and his group of workers did an excellent job cleaning up years of growth of brushes and vines that grew all over the fence. There was a lot of work that was done. Jacob and crew did a great job trimming trees in the backyard that were getting close to wires. Orange tree looks beautiful, nice and round. They also had the challenge to cut a huge tree in front of the house. They cleaned up everything and did a terrific job. They are very reasonable and very polite. Jacob and Kathy were recommended to us and we were very impressed. Our job involved the clean up of our very neglected front and backyards, including the trimming of several big trees. Jacob's quote for taking down a not very healthy big tree was so reasonable that we went with it and was very glad we did. It really opened up the yard. The big Mulberry tree in our front yard got a beautiful hair cut, definitely professional grade. Jacob, Kathy and their crew worked hard for several days, keeping us updated on their progress. Before their work, I dreaded going into the yard. By the time they were done, the yard was completely transformed into a wonderful blank slate that is inspiring me to plan the next step. They left the entire place completely cleaned up, fixed our broken door to the yard on their own accord and stacked all the useful wood and rocks neatly along a fence. They were communicative, efficient, easy to work with and extremely reasonably priced.
