I've attended the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival several times, which is where I have encountered (and…read moresubsequently, craved) the amazing vegetarian Caribbean food at Nyota's Ting. The operation is clean and well-run, and their stand at the festival turns out amazing, wholesome, richly spiced and always delicious food for thousands of festivalgoers. Needless to say, if they can handle the hustle and bustle of a huge music festival, they definitely have the expertise to cater your event. My favorite thing is the vegetarian curry goat. It is the stuff of dreams. I'm not sure what vegetarian protein they use--probably seitan?--but it is toothsome and hearty. The spices are intoxicating. You can get the curry goat and any of their other entree items either as a platter or a salad in a deep-fried tortilla bowl (which is delicious and perfect if you are spending a long day at a festival). If you see their stand at an event, definitely check it out, and if you are looking to feed a bunch of vegetarians at a party or other event, give them a call. I myself am truly looking forward to the next time I get to eat their wonderful food.

The other stands were all local companies, which I figured I could get anytime, right? Let's try something different and exotic! So, before I order my food, I ask the lady if they accept credit cards (since I had a whopping $1 with me). She said yes, I proceeded to order. She then hands me my food, I give her my credit card, and am then told that the machine can't send the signal, so my card won't work. Great! She then held my food hostage while another friend came to my rescue with some cash. Get your act together, Nyota, this is the 21st century and you're using some old-school credit card machine? Then I finally get to taste my food. If you like overly-processed, extremely high sodium food, then this might be your thing. If you also like food that's drowning in long, slimy onion strands (aka worms), then this is DEFINITELY your thing. Quantity-wise, it was well worth my $9 but quality-wise, I feel like I need to detox until the winter solstice. My advice? If you want delicious vegan food that will also make you feel good, Nyota's Ting is not it.

Three street meat carts stand within one block of each other. I had to try one out of the three,…read moreand Little Morocco had a better name than the other two. The cart also had nicer colors and pictures, and of course, it had a sticker saying it was recommended by the Midtown Lunch (ML) blog. Unfortunately, this is one time I will have disagree with Zach (ML blogger). I am definitely not a fan of my street meat being chopped up to pieces like minced meat. The lamb and chicken were also quite dry, and the same goes for the rice as well. But on the positive side, the chicken/lamb combo over rice was definitely less oily than the same combo at the La Baguette Cafe cart a block away. A meal at most street carts now cost north of $6, so it was still quite a treat to see every platter on this menu at only $5 each. Despite the mediocre combo, I'd still be interested in trying the Kofta Kebab and Shrimp over rice. Anytime you get seafood over anything for $5, that is a good deal.

Sweet Corn with Your Street Meat!…read more I learned of Little Morocco a couple of days ago by reading the MLB post on its Fish Over Rice. I decided to try it out. In concurrence with the post, it's a good and filling deal for $5. Of course it's nothing gourmet, but it's better than what you would expect from a street cart. I made the mistake of letting them douse my plate with too much spicy hot sauce though. After ordering the said fish over rice, I saw the vendor preparing a Lamb Pita ($3) and it looked so good, so I decided to return for today's lunch. It was tasty, but again they put on too much hot sauce. Little Morocco distinguishes itself by including cilantro and sweet corn in its dishes (along with the usual suspects of tomato and lettuce). The prices are great here, and the dishes taste good. It's a win win situation on the NE corner of W 39th St & 7th Ave.

Wish they had the variety they purport to have online. Mostly it was just pistachio and walnut baklava and similar variants. Such variety online did not exist in person.

Absolute Disgrace of a Business - Unacceptable Substitutions and Zero Customer Service!…read moreI am completely shocked and furious by the absolute lack of professionalism, basic courtesy, and competence at this place. I paid $12 for a Chocolate Soufflé (Lava Cake), which explicitly states on the menu that it is a hot baked item served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Instead of delivering what I paid for, the kitchen unilaterally decided to scoop plain chocolate ice cream into a regular, unlabeled plastic delivery cup, which arrived completely melted into a warm liquid. To make matters worse, they apparently were completely sold out of the savory cheese pastry I actually ordered, as well as the two bottles of Lemon Snapple I ordered for my friend's kids. Rather than picking up the phone to call me out of basic courtesy to offer a refund or an alternative, they silently threw a random spinach stick into the bag--an item that isn't even on their delivery menu. Even worse, instead of the Lemon Snapple, they substituted apple juice, which the children are extremely allergic to. The staff at this bakery carelessly endangered the health and well-being of children and completely wasted my money. They then tossed in a random chunk of chocolate cherry cake without my consent, clearly using a freebie to cover up the fact that they completely ripped me off on my actual order. Furthermore, packing hot food into delivery containers with completely fractured, smashed plastic lids is a major safety hazard. Sending random dairy and high-sugar items to a customer without checking is a serious liability. You do not treat paying customers like a dumping ground for whatever leftovers happen to be sitting in your display cases at the end of a Friday shift. I will never order from here again. If you cannot fulfill an order accurately, do the professional thing: cancel the item and issue a refund. This business takes customers' money and refuses to deliver what was paid for. DO NOT TRUST THIS DISHONEST ESTABLISHMENT WITH YOUR ORDER!

The Burek is, hands down, the best I've ever had. It's fresh, flavorful, perfectly made, and tastes like the real deal. And the kos... sooo good! They were so delicious - perfectly crispy and not oily at all. The perfect shape too. I don't even like French fries like that but I couldn't stop eating them. They also have fresh bread that was made in house - that was delicious with the eggplant dip that we ordered (afjar). The grill platters were so delicious. I would recommend the grill platter so you can try different types of meat. But each meat was flavorful and perfectly cooked. We got a house salad with the meat and it was nice and refreshing. ¡Buen provecho!…read more After stalking her instagram for THE LONGEST, and practically begging her to come to STL, I finally made it to NYC. For the first time in my life, I took the subway (all by myself too!), about a 45 minute ride one way just to make it to her food. I placed my order after I exited the subway (due to connectivity issues on the train). It was only like a 5 minute walk from the station to La Fonda so the food wasn't quite ready yet. No worries. I sat at La Fonda's bar and enjoyed the music and good vibes from the restaurant's staff and customers. The food took a while to prepare (I ordered a lot though), so keep that in mind if you're on a schedule. When the young man brought my food, he apologized for the wait. It was an easy Sunday for me, so I had no issues with the wait. However, I did decide to sit at the bar and eat my food. VACALAITO: 3 nicely sized fritters, made from hearts of palm, if I remember correctly. Very tasty! I ate my leftovers today - 3 days later, and they were even better! (Warm up the leftovers in air fryer for best results) BEEFLESS EMPANADA: Should've ordered 2 because I'm craving more. You get one large empanada. It was so tasty and the beef was seasoned exquisitely! 10/10 would order again! (If you like a lil spice, order the chipotle sauce for dipping. So yum!!) MOXTAILS: Freggin fire. FIYAH!! The dinner came with moxtails (vegan/mock oxtails), white rice (they were out of their arroz con gandules), shredded cabbage, y maduros. I added her Cilantro Garlic sauce to the plain rice and OMG OMG!! Do it!! I ended up ordering 6 cilantro garlic sauces and 3 chipotle sauces; they're that good! I don't know what she uses for her moxtails, but the flavor and texture are insanely succulent. No weird chewy consistency to it at all. Initially it appeared that the portion was small, but it ended up being very filling and plentiful. 10/10 would order again. BISTEC ENCEBOLLADO: A vegan spin to a classic Latin Caribbean dish. This plate is hefty! A huge portion of vegan bistec is accompanied by white rice, pink beans, tostones, y ensalada. I only took a nibble of this on Sunday, but today/Wednesday, I warmed it up and ate the rest. The flavors have settled in and it's better today than it was Sunday. I spent @ $75 before the tip, which is decent for 2 meals and 2 appetizers. So many other things that I want to try from Black Rican Vegan, so I cannot wait to return!
