Three street meat carts stand within one block of each other. I had to try one out of the three, and Little Morocco had a better name than the other two. The cart also had nicer colors and pictures, and of course, it had a sticker saying it was recommended by the Midtown Lunch (ML) blog. Unfortunately, this is one time I will have disagree with Zach (ML blogger). I am definitely not a fan of my street meat being chopped up to pieces like minced meat. The lamb and chicken were also quite dry, and the same goes for the rice as well. But on the positive side, the chicken/lamb combo over rice was definitely less oily than the same combo at the La Baguette Cafe cart a block away. A meal at most street carts now cost north of $6, so it was still quite a treat to see every platter on this menu at only $5 each. Despite the mediocre combo, I'd still be interested in trying the Kofta Kebab and Shrimp over rice. Anytime you get seafood over anything for $5, that is a good deal. read more

Sweet Corn with Your Street Meat! I learned of Little Morocco a couple of days ago by reading the MLB post on its Fish Over Rice. I decided to try it out. In concurrence with the post, it's a good and filling deal for $5. Of course it's nothing gourmet, but it's better than what you would expect from a street cart. I made the mistake of letting them douse my plate with too much spicy hot sauce though. After ordering the said fish over rice, I saw the vendor preparing a Lamb Pita ($3) and it looked so good, so I decided to return for today's lunch. It was tasty, but again they put on too much hot sauce. Little Morocco distinguishes itself by including cilantro and sweet corn in its dishes (along with the usual suspects of tomato and lettuce). The prices are great here, and the dishes taste good. It's a win win situation on the NE corner of W 39th St & 7th Ave. read more

Look for the big button/needle statue to find this truck! If you come here during lunch, expect a line. The food is good (though I can always go for more since they use the shallow containers), but the lines are killer. Sometimes 10-15 minutes, with tourists and other people on their lunch breaks cutting through the line. The fish over rice was OK, but not great. The lamb over rice was exactly what I expected, which is goodness. Try the green sauce! read more

My combo platter for only $5 was alright I suppose... I liked the following: 1) tasty chicken: juicy and good flavor 2) tasty lamb: juicy and good flavor 3) surprise french fries: nice touch! Finding them inside gives you that "must-be-my-lucky-day" feeling... I didn't like the following: 1) weak hot sauce: I'm not a fan! It had all the things I can't stand in a hot sauce; thick, smokey , and weak in general. At first the unique flavor was good, but then the novelty wore off and i was stuck with that nasty crap... 2) the takeout box: they use a sketchy box where the perimeter is wider than the center. I'm not a fan of such food cart tactics where the perceived amount of food seems more than the actual... Note the following: 1) I did not use white sauce 2) it took me 30 minutes to get home to enjoy my meal The summary: In general it was OK i guess because the chicken was really good when a lot of the other carts are dried out. Little Morocco has returned finally to the north-east corner of 39th St and 7th Ave. As soon as I heard the good news, I knew I had to come here and try it out. Although I heard good things of the Fish over Rice ($5.00), I was a bit hesitant, coming from a food cart, so I ordered the Combo Platter ($5.00). I kept knocking myself over the head as I heard a few people ordering the fish, but after watching the gentleman prepare my meal, I was captivated with taste buds salivating at all the different items thrown into my platter. What I got was a bed of yellow basmati rice thrown across the whole bottom of the tray. Mixed with the rice was sweet corn, peas, string beans, and these very small bitter peppercorn-like balls (one Yelper commented they were cardamom seeds). The rice was a bit bland, but I didn't mind as there were so many other flavors from the meat and sauces going on. Salad consisting of crisp lettuce, fresh tomato, cucumber, dill, cilantro, and a standard white sauce was thrown on top on 1/4 of the platter (big plus as so many other carts make the mistake of filling half the platter with plain and boring lettuce and tomato). The other 3/4 were filled with lamb and chicken. Portions were not the most generous, but again, with all the other stuff you get with it, it can easily go unnoticed. I was afraid that the lamb and chicken wasn't going to taste good as I watched the gentleman take the precooked proteins from metal trays and tossed on the grill for reheating, but they actually stood up fairly well. The chicken was tender and spiced well, while the lamb had a decent amount of seasoning making for a salty but delicious-like sausage. Yum! But it doesn't end there! Thrown on top of the meat were sauteed chickpeas, onions and very soft string beans topped with a light green/white colored sauce mixed with minced cilantro leaves. Delicious!! You didn't think it ended there? I was also surprised to receive a large potato ball that reminded me of a spinach knish, soft and potatoey inside, yum. To top off this garbage plate of food, I also asked for hot sauce which had a tart flavor and packed some heat. Little Morocco ain't so little in my book anymore, and it deserves more credit than it has been receiving. I really enjoyed the Combo Platter. If only they prepared their chicken fresh off the grill and lamb off the doner kebab, this cart would surely shine. I will definitely have to come back soon to try their fish over rice platter, which seems to be the go-to dish at this cart. read more

The lamb is crispy on the outside and has good flavor, same for the chicken though not as crisp as the lamb. I like the chick peas every plate is topped with, and watch out for the hot sauce, it's too hot for me. I prefer the green sauce, mild. The white sauce is pretty good too. I used to get freaked out by white sauce, just sounds weird. The falafel is OK, not made to order, so it kind of gets stale. Stick with the other veggies, all are good. read more

Working on 7th ave btwn 36th and 37th there aren't a ton of great food options within a few blocks that are walkable in this crazy cold weather we're having. But a few blocks up the street lies Little Morocco, my favorite street meat outside of the corner of SE corner 53rd and 7th during the day. If you haven't tried their Kofta yet, make sure you get their early and check it out before it sells out. Probably the best non-Lamb over rice street meat I've ever had. The spices and herbs they put on it are an incredible combination and when topped off with a little red and white, it makes a damn near perfect lunch. Definitely check out Little Morocco if you're in the neighborhood and craving some solid food at great prices. read more

I've only tried this cart once, but think it might be the best street meat cart that i've had. It's close between here and the famous halal guys. The chicken and lamb were both very well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The lamb was a little more crispy, but both were very tasty. The chicken and lamb aren't chopped into tiny pieces, they were the perfect size. I like the rice they use here, very similar to the famous halal guys. What i really enjoyed was the white sauce, so good, and they put a ton of it on the platter. The side salad was pretty fresh, with some nice slices of tomato and had some things the other carts don't have like chic peas, onions, and corn. I wish this wasn't so far from work, i'd be here all the time. read more

Rice was good, but the meat was a bit dry.

I had the combo platter from here for dinner. And it was pretty awesome! This food cart definitely distinguished itself with its extremely flavorful rice and super spicy hot sauce. It's hard to find hot sauce that is really, authentically hot, and Little Morocco's hot sauce was pretty spicy. The meat had nice crispy bits in it - perhaps the meat acquired a nice crisp after sitting there for so long. I'm definitely coming back, especially since its just right around the corner from my work place. read more

You know your originally a New York when you have a favorite food cart, that being said this is one of my favorites. First off, if you visit New York and get halal food that is not off the street, I don't think I can ever talk to you. Haha, all jokes aside I am a lover of gyros, chicken over rice and just halal food in general. That being said I find this to be one of the places to grab "street meat", and while all the carts may look the same I can guarantee you they are not all created equally. Also, it's conveniently located a few blocks from the Port Authority, so when I visit New York this usually one of my last stops before getting back on the bus. And yes I am that person that smells up the bus with delicious food, sorry I am not sorry. Overall, if you have not experienced halal food off the street or just love it as much as I do, this is a great spot to check out! read more

Why do they keep disappearing on me? They also often don't have most of the items on the menu (e.g. kofta, fish, shrimp), so all they really have is chicken and / or lamb, which is fine by me because they taste great, especially with the white, red and (especially) green sauces! The toppings of corn and chickpeas give the chicken over rice additional taste and texture, and a whole new dimension! read more

After reading all the raving reviews for this place, I decided to give it a try. Surprisingly, there was no line when I got there and I happened to be the only person. I got the chicken over rice. I tried to strike up a conversation with the guy but he didn't seem very interested. I asked for extra hot sauce and some of the green and white sauce. The food was good but their hot sauce is definitely very hot!! I felt like the quantity of salad in my box was definitely on the lighter side along with the amount of chicken and rice which was definitely lacking. Also, the chicken was cut in really small pieces and I prefer bigger chucks. I am a Rafiqui's fan and I compare all street meat to Rafiqui's. I would go here again if I am in the area but, will definitely go lighter with the hot sauce next time! read more

For $5, you really can't go wrong for a fast and filling meal with veggies, lamb, and fragrant rice. I chewed on a couple of whole cardamom seeds in my mouth, but at least I know that they use the expensive spices. read more
