Chicken & Rice with Pita
Mr F G And Mrs M S.

3.5 Stars $5 for a chicken & rice with pita bread. Pretty good deal. The food were not the best we've had but definitely good. The portion is a bit smaller than some other halal carts. Friendly service! Definitely worth checking out!

Chicken over rice delicious!! ;-)

This is not my everyday meal but today i grabbed chicken over rice topped with lots of white sauce and fed sauce, with can soda it cost me only $6. Great food for price.chicken was perfectly cooked served with yellow colour rice and lettuce n slice of tomato.not bad place for quick lunch, need to maintain cleaning and use gloves.

This place was so good. I had the eggplant falafel with hot sauce and white sauce. It is one of the better ones I have ate in three states. A must try when getting off the train

Lamb over Spicy Rice ($5.00)
Jason P.

This halal cart is located just across the street from Jimmy's BBQ on the Northeast corner of 31st St. and 8th Ave. The man inside the cart archaically takes orders from all his customers in every which way, rather than taking the orders of the next one or two standing in line. I guess this makes his cooking more efficient as he can portion how much food to throw on the grill, but he asked us 2-3 times what we ordered. For the most part, this cart is standard-fare serving lamb off a doner kebab and chicken. However, I also noticed there long whole sausages sitting adjacent to the grill that I was quite intrigued about. But to keep things safe, I ordered Lamb over Rice ($5.00), which you have the option of yellow or spicy rice. I opted for the spicy rice along with white and hot sauce. As we waited, I watched the chef as he chopped up the lamb meat very fine into small bits and squirted a red liquid on it to moisten it up. Thumbs up for that, which helps make the meat a little more tender and tasty. He then scooped a couple spoonfuls of rice and put the standard chopped lettuce and sliced tomatoes in. He then squirted, what seemed like for 5-6 seconds of the white sauce, and then some hot sauce. It was doused completely in white sauce. Usually the white sauce helps accentuate the flavors but I was hoping it wouldn't turn out to be eating practically all mayo. When opening the container, I noticed that portions were fairly large, almost twice the amount of meat that I've been recently accustoming myself from other halal carts in the area. One could make the claim that the meat was so finely chopped to give the appearance of a lot of meat, but I'd have to say there actually was. The lamb meat was indeed moist and flavorful; not too salty and not too bland, but just right. The white sauce, of the mayo variation, was pretty standard as well as the hot sauce which I didn't find spicy at all. Where I found a kick was from the rice, which used a fatter/wider grain as opposed to the longer-grained basmati rice. One of my friends claimed that it tasted like Goya rice. However, the spicy variation did indeed have some heat initially, but then it got overpowered with a vinegar-like flavor. It kept reminding me of Frank's Hot Sauce, or when you eat so many of the typical buffalo wings and your lips start to get numb from that vinegar flavor. After a while, my palate was overpowered from that sourness that I had to take a couple breaks while eating. At the end of the day, it was pretty good as the meat portions helped justify much of the smiles on my face. I will probably settle for their regular rice, which the 5-6 other people on line had ordered, as the spicy rice was just too overbearing. Another thing worth noting is that he will also offer olives and hot peppers, both from two humongous glass jars, which is a nice bonus if you so desire. For $5, it's not the worst in the neighborhood, but it's also not the best.

Grade pending, white sauce extremely watered down and meat is dry. Pass and find another place to eat.

Solid if you are craving halal. Rice is basic cheap yellow not basmati. Nowhere near Sammys Halal quality, but few are.

Hainan Jones - Classic Chicken Rice Set (~$17): half poached & half roasted chicken

The chicken was very tender, well prepared, and so were the veggies. I think it has stiff competition by way of Lou Yau Kee but is definitely up there as top 5 southeast chicken rices in the city! I would def come back here and what's great is that you can feel healthy bc it's steamed/poached chicken, rice and veggies :) It's inside Urban Hawker, so you can get a variety of other things to go with your meal - might I recommend Kopi (malaysian coffee) at the nearby stand? The flavors were bold, authentic, and the chicken skin was silky smooth. The cucumbers had a nice crunch and the veggies as well. They give you two sauces, one of them is spicy and might be hotter than you expect so try it first.

The vendors represent essential cuisines like Malay, Peranakan, Chinese, Indian, Southeast Asian, and Asian-style Western favorites. The first time I went to Urban Hawker was in December 2022, so I was very happy to be back again. I went to Hainan Jones for the Singapore Hainanese Chicken Rice. The menu offers two chicken rice sets: poached or roasted Hainanese Chicken Rice, Chicken Porridge, or a salad. Hainanese Chicken Rice is considered one of Singapore's most celebrated local dishes and is the star at Hainan Jones. I ordered the Signature Poached Chicken Rice Set ($19). The rice set is served with very fragrant chicken rice and broth accompanied by oyster vegetables with fried shallots, cucumbers, a chili sauce, and dark soy sauce. It didn't take very long for the order to be ready. The poached chicken was very smooth, tender, and tasty. I enjoyed the flavor of the chicken by itself and dipping it in the dark soy sauce. It was a good portion and very filling. My husband got the roasted chicken and he enjoyed it. There are plenty of tables for seating at Urban Hawker. After eating, I bought the tray to the trash area and there were staff taking the tray and cleaning tables. I'm looking forward to the next time I can visit Urban Hawker.

I've gotten adels every single time I've gone to NY…read more Yes line is long but this is the best halal cart. Workers are super nice too and friendly. I get the chicken and gyro mix with spicy rice. Rice is not spicy don't worry. Also their chicken is like marinated unlike some other halal carts. I get all sauces except bbq. The gf does all the sauces except red sauce cause that one IS spicy One time they accidentally put fries on my plate but now it's a non negotiable for me. Ask for it on the side if you don't want it to get soggy. If I'm feeling extra big back I throw some falafel on that shi too. If you wanna skip the line, just order on Grubhub. It's more expensive yes but worth it if you're not tryna wait an hour

The line literally tells you everything... waiting an hour at like 1 AM for halal food sounds insane until you try it. The meat was SO good bro I still can't stop thinking about it. Biggest hack: get the white sauce on the side and add extra meat. They absolutely drown it in sauce if you don't, and the sauce gets kinda heavy after awhile. On the side is perfect. I genuinely need to go back already lol

You're at a food court. With some luck you can snag a seat and chow down but office lunchers will probably just head back to their desk. Was told that the fish was super crispy so I got that with fried rice. Purposely asked questions in Canto to let them know I'm with the home team. Fried rice is made to order and it's actually decent. Food comes out piping hot. The fish is covered with a thick breading that reminds me of the frozen breaded tilapia from Trader Joe. It's a big serving (ended up with enough left over for a second meal) but you'll have to work thru that breading. On its own it has pretty much no flavor but it comes with a black pepper sauce that you'll need. The sauce is weirdly thick but along with the thick breading the fish will stay crispy.
