We enjoyed our first visit to Jaipur Palace! It was a great pleasure to meet with Mr. Clifton. He was very informative about all the dishes and the spice levels. We ordered the goat biryani, Maharaja Punjabi Dal and Baigan Bharta with a tandoori roti. Each of these dishes were delicious! Both came with fresh white basmati rice. Clifton was very kind to adjust the spice levels for us when the Bharta turned out too spicy. He was very attentive and checked on us a few times to make sure we are enjoying our dinner! We saw him working very hard with all the other guests too. He was preparing cocktails, & drinks etc. while attending to all guests! What we liked most was that the food had a home made quality, and it did not upset our gastrointestinal systems! :) The restaurant ambiance is good. The cutlery and glassware were clean! Ordered pick-up on a weekend night and everything was ready in about 20 mins! Pick up process was quick and easy. Parking was a breeze. Loved everything I ordered! Portions are very generous and can easily have enough for 2-3 meals. The rice was nice and fluffy and the sauce was very rich in flavor.The Vegetable Pakora was by far the favorite. Nice and crunchy outside. The sauces each paired wonderfully with the dusting of spices/herbs. Everything was so good!! Amazing! We eat here when we visit Austin, from time to time. We were able to sit and eat but have done take out and both ways, the food was hot and fresh. Which is great! Oh man the food here was horrible. We ordered through DoorDash everything as medium. The dal maharaja punjab was inedibly spicy and had a weird metallic taste. The chicken tikka curry we ordered was super watery and had maybe 6 pieces of chicken in it... the chicken 65 was decent. They also messed up on our ordered and provided tandoori roti instead of the naan we had ordered. There are much better Indian restaurants in Austin than Jaipur and personally will not be returning. read more

This place is pretty decent, but not for dessert (at least to me). I love Indian food and wanted to try a South Austin place other than my go-to, so we opted to order food to pick up from here. We got butter chicken, chicken 65 (both dishes came with rice), and an order of ras malai. The entrees were all great, I can't say they're better than my other spot but they were close enough I would call them equivocal! The portion sizes were pretty good too. The aspect where I had an issue was the ras malai... in the picture on the online order menu, it shows like 4-5 pieces, and the cost was almost $8. When we picked up the food, it was only 2 pieces!!! I've gotten 2 pieces of ras malai from my fabulous food truck go-to spot for like $3, so I was pretty disappointed this place charges so much for just 2 pieces. They were also a bit soggy by the time we got to eating them :( I can't really comment on the service because we ordered pick up, but the food was certainly ready when we arrived and they got it to us quickly so presumably no issue there! The interior of the restaurant is like a slightly more upscale fast food place so it wouldn't be bad to eat there, but it's a lunch vibe, not a nice dinner vibe. I'm glad we just ordered food for take out. Overall: because I love ras malai and I don't like their price, I'm not planning to come back here. Simple place with good service and good food. The Jaipur Mix Grill is a really good value ~ $25 for look how much! I had my first bite of salmon tikka in that dish and it was really good. The salad was very fresh and light and really nice complement for the other heavier food. The Amritsari kulcha was sooo yummy, kind of like a soft paneer paratha. I will 100% be ordering these dishes again. My least favorite thing was the paneer biryani. It was a bit too spicy and moist for what a medium spice level biryani should be. Jaipur is our go-to takeout spot, so much so that I don't think we have ever eaten in-restaurant! But really top notch Indian food with a huge menu and lots of lamb and goat options which is extra fun! I always struggle to get something OTHER than tikka masala because it is just so good, but the tandoori is great (we did the Jaipur mix grill), and my husbands favorite Bhindi Gosht- spicy lamb and okra. The heat can be a little hit or miss, maybe depending on who takes the order, but when they do make it spicy it is SPICY! Service is usually pretty quick at the pick up counter, and once time when they got one of our entrees wrong they gave us a free dessert to make up for it which was nice! read more

Of all the Indian restaurants I have been to, their mixed grill platter is outstanding! It has everything from all sorts of kakab to tandoori shrimp and salmon. The portion is huge. Just amazing Indian food. it's North Indian food and tastes the best. imo best in all Austin and Texas. The food choices are varied and every dish is very well prepared. The paneer chilli appetizer is perfectly cooked and textured. The taste of tofu and the chilli paste and other stuff is just amazing we had Tandoori chicken, malai kofta and chilli paneer paired with naan bread. the naan bread was so soft and perfectly done. the garlic and chilli naan is so tasty. The dishes came with onion salad and lemon which goes so well. always ask for that and sprinkle lemon on the dishes. The tandoori chicken was perfectly marinated and came sizzling. really perfectly cooked and hit the spot. the veggie dishes were well liked by whole family. the spices aren't overwhelming but just perfectly flavored. the chef is truly very good and skilled. we didn't even do leftovers because it was so good we just ate it all. Definitely recommended in Austin if you love well cooked and great flavored food. Five stars and we are now going to be regulars here. read more

I was very pleasantly surprised at how good this place was. This definitely has to be my favorite Indian food place in the south Austin area! I loved the variety of options that they have and the food was just delicious! I ended up getting the vegetable tikka masala, and I have been wanting to go back there every day since. They recommended I pair it with the garlic bread and that was the perfect combo! It was a Tuesday evening when we went and there was plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor and we were served our food within 10 to 15 minutes from ordering. I was craving Indian food so I went to this place. This is my second time going there after about a year. The first time was fine. However, this time around was a disappointment. I ordered lamb vindaloo and I only got maybe 4 to 5 pieces of lamb cubes and the rest were potatoes and vegetables. The basmati rice was also a little dry. The sauce was good and the service was decent. For the $23 including tip, I don't think it is worth going back unless they improve this place. read more

We frequent the Thai place next door, but have always smelled the delicious Indian spices coming from next door. Today we finally gave it a try. Service was nice and friendly. The vibe of the restaurant is very nice and more "fancy" of a sit-down restaurant with the water goblets and fabric napkins. The food was fantastic! We were there at about 6 p.m. on a weekday evening. There were only a couple of tables in use, and we were told the place is usually much, much busier on weekend evenings. It's a comfortable, casual restaurant with a large, expensive bar lining one wall, and booths along two sides. The roomy center portion was filled with tables. Word of advice: Unless you are as limber as you were in your teen years, sit at one of the tables instead of a booth. I slid into a spacious booth at first, but the seat was so low that I found myself in an uncomfortable squatting position. After extricating my ample body with difficulty, we asked to move to a table. The host graciously put two tables together so our foursome would have plenty of elbow room. It was also practical because of the wide assortment of plates, drinks and dishes that we enjoyed. It took us a while to go through the menu, which carefully lists the ingredients of each item. Our waiter was nearby to answer any questions. It even took a while to decide on the appetizers, but our friends were familiar with at least one of them so that made the choices easier. For starters, wife Karen and I chose the Vegetable Samosa, described as crispy turnovers stuffed with potatoes, green peas and spices, served with tamarind and mint sauce. The two turnovers were cut in halves to make sharing easy among the four of us. They were tasty, with a little bit of the zing I expected, yet unremarkable. The appetizer chosen by friends Rick and Kim was another story, however. They went with the Vegetable Pakora, an Indian fried snack of gram flour, spices, onion, potatoes and spinach, with the same two sauces as ours. This stuff was a real treat, and I could've made a meal out of it. It had the mouth feel and consistency of chocolate/coconut haystacks candy, but savory and crunchy. Now, on to the main event. Before ordering, we paid special attention to the part of the menu that described the levels of spice in the dishes. They are described as "mild," "medium," "spicy," and "Indian spicy." After all the stories I have heard about the spiciness of Indian food, I took these descriptions seriously. I was guessing that "Indian spicy" translates to "burn your tongue off." We were told that unless a different level of spice is requested, the restaurant typically uses "mild" spiciness in their dishes. I selected the Butter Lamb, with "medium" level of spice heat. I chose that level because I was told it's closer to what the Indian people typically eat. I also ordered a basket of the Tandoor-baked Garlic Naan for Karen and me. That's a thin, puffy, chewy flatbread similar to pita. It's perfect for sopping up the sauces and gravies that are integral to many Indian dishes. However, it was a little too garlicky for me. My entree came out in an oval dish filled with chunks of tender lamb cooked in a sauce prepared with tomato, onion, butter, cream, ginger garlic paste, and a mix of spices. It was accompanied by a sizable portion of rice. I didn't ask for directions on how to properly eat this stuff, but I just went to town. I lay down a little mound of the rice and then scooped some of the lamb mixture on top of it. I used the naan to soak up any of the liquid that escaped the middle of the plate. It was all a new, delicious experience. I had enough of my dish and naan left to bring home for a snack. Rick ordered the Butter Chicken with "medium" spice, which was identical to my meal except for his choice of protein. His came with a basket of plain naan. He clearly enjoyed his meal with relish and didn't need to bother with a doggy bag. Kim selected two of her favorite vegetarian dishes, not because she was unusually hungry, but I'm guessing because she likes to have tasty leftovers to cut down on the cooking chores. Each came with a side of rice. She also likes her Indian food with what I consider serious heat, so she had both of hers made with the "spicy" designation. First, she picked the Saag Paneer ($15.95), chunks of homemade cheese cooked in sauce and prepared with spinach, onion, ginger garlic paste, and spices. Then, she added an order of Baingan Bharata ($13.99), minced eggplant grilled over direct fire and cooked with green peas, onion, tomato, and a mix of spices. Both of Kim's entrees were served and dished up similarly to what Rick and I had. Plenty went home with her to enjoy another time. Karen picked the Gulnar Rack of Lamb ($20.99) with "mild" spice. It's a section of lamb cut perpendicularly to the spine. It consisted of four meaty chops marinated with yogurt, lemon juice, and a mix of spices. It was grilled in the tandoor oven and served with tikka sauce on the side. It also came with a side of rice. Lamb is one of Karen's favorite foods, and she unquestionably enjoyed her meal. Solid option for Indian cuisine in the South Austin, Southpark Meadows area. The staff is especially friendly and accommodating when we bringing in the little kiddo, so we are very appreciative! They've always got great music and Bollywood videos playing, so plenty to love if you're looking for a little extra culture compared to a fast food kick. For appetizers, love the Pakora and any Samosas. Plenty of entree options to choose from, both in terms of vegetarian and/or protein options (lamb, beef, goat, chicken, seafood, etc.) as well as spice level. I think the spicy option is the best, but for those who want the extra kick, Indian Spicy will have you nice and warm! Don't forget to try the garlic naan! read more

This is the only Indian food I've tried so far in Texas, but this was a great start. The food here is seasoned and spiced well. Spice level is offered on a range from mild to Indian hot. Compared to spice levels I've had in NY, the spice was pretty tame. I will have to try Indian hot next time. We ordered the goat curry, butter lamb, chicken samosas, veggie samosas, and garlic naan for our food choices. The meats could have been more tender, but nonetheless everything was flavored well and portions were fair. The drinks were good though on the weaker side. For my entree, I ordered medium Goat Tikki Masala. This is my first foray into choosing goat which I'm surprised since I've eaten in many places across the world. The goat was tender and scrumptious. It does not matter what you order, the "to-go" containers do not work. They do not stay closed and they always leak. They must be cheap - but they are not worth it. The food was good, but the service was absolutely horrible. They were overstaffed, yet no one greeted me once seated or came to take my order until I asked. My server just came to my table and stood there with his handheld. He never even said anything to me. It was incredibly rude. I asked to sub my rice for naan, which is the same $3 price, but he said it wasn't possible. Odd. He didn't follow up to check on me either, so I just decided to go pay at the bar myself when I was done. Unfortunately, I didn't care for the ambiance either. It's tight and the tables are positioned strangely, so I was facing the people in the booths in an awkward position. The butter chicken I did have was tasty, so that's what the two stars are for. My friend and I love this place. I'd never really tried anything besides butter chicken at an Indian restaurant and it was my go to bc I'm not big on spicy. Their butter chicken can be ordered at different spice levels and their mild was fantastic. Still had some heat, but wasn't overpowering. This last time we smelled the most amazing sizzling dish when we were sat and asked what it was. The waiter suggested that if we got the Jaipur Mix Grill it was large enough to share and had a mix of several dishes so we could try a bit of all the sizzling plates. When I tell you it was great, it's an understatement. The Tandoori Shrimp & Salmon Tikka were my favorite. Both were tender and seasoned to perfection. The meal came with several styles and a side of Tika sauce for one of the chicken dishes, but it was too good to not have on the rice and the Onion Paneer Naan we got. She and I both ate our fill and the leftovers were enough for dinner that night. My son tried some and loved it too. The staff was so helpful and even explained what each dish on the plate was so we would know what we liked best for next time. I can't wait to come back with the whole family.
