My longtime ophthalmologist , Dr. Roat--a superb physician whom I recommend enthusiastically--recently joined this group. When I arrived for my first appointment with Dr. Roat at this office, the first and only thing I saw through the glass doors to the suite was the optical store. I understand that this is quite common; however I work in a helping profession myself and am very turned off by medical practices that feature commercial products. I followed Dr. Mekel to your practice his previous practice. All the doctors I encountered are wonderful. My issue is with the administrative staff. I am disappointed I cannot speak to anyone. I need to leave a message just for a simple question. This is very inconvenient for me. I had an appointment in August, and your office canceled it. You could not reschedule me for over a month. My appointment is next week. On Friday, September 26 I received a phone call to schedule an appointment. I needed to call you office, leave a message, and wait for a phone call to make sure my appointment, again, was not canceled. While I was on the phone verifying my appointment was not canceled. the person HUNG UP ON ME. This is very unprofessional. I have been a patient here for two years, and had cataract surgery just over a year ago. Dr. Krespan was my surgeon and she did a fantastic job. 5 stars isn't enough. Years ago, I was told that, without my glasses, I was legally blind. No argument there. Previous prescriptions didn't cut it. Double vision and blur had reached the point I had to drive with a patch over the worst eye. Anything more than 5 feet away became two objects. Having moved to PA recently, I asked my son-in-law (the doctor) for a recommendation. Two weeks ago, following about an hour of testing and analysis, I got a NEW prescription. It NAILED the problem. I feel like I've reentered the world. I'm still getting used to visual functionality. And kudos to America's Best for their creation. I've never had the need to go to an ophthalmologist until I was hit with a devastating case of shingles on my face that ended up affecting my eye. The care and professionalism that not only the doctors have but also the staff at the front desks is world class. It is hands down the best medical establishment I have ever dealt with. This was difficult to review. Jahnle has three divisions and two are HIGHLY recommend. So, from best to worst: 1: Ophthalmology: An easy 5 STARS!!! Kelly L. Krespan, M.D. performed cataract surgery on both of my eyes andI could not be happier. Dr. Krespan is a caring and competent surgeon--I can see why my retinal doctor recommended Jahnle for my cataract surgery without hesitation. 2: Optometry: 4 1/2 STARS. Very good. I forget his name but a very good optometrist, both patient and amiable. 3: The Optical Shop: ONE star. So, why one star... Their prices are at the top, but that's not a complaint. That's on me, no one forced me to go there and pay their high prices. BUT, their work and service are at the bottom. So, highest prices with poorest service; I can't think of a worse retail combination. Here's what happened: About a month after the surgery, I had my eye exam. I was given my script and made an appointment with Jahnle's Optical Department. Why shouldn't I? My surgery was top-notch and my eye exam was also, so I just assumed. (Those damn assumptions can get you every time.) I purchased two pairs of eyeglasses--remember, at top prices. Later, I noticed that the frameless pair had a chip on the top edge of one of the lenses. In other words, they sold me eyeglasses with a noticeable flaw. (Strike one) I was going to take them back but I figured, 'Ehhh, the hell with it. I'm tough on my glasses anyway.' About a month goes by. I went to visit my daughter who is also an optometrist and has a successful practice in Massachusetts. (She has patients who come as far as California and even one from England--that's what I call, HIGHLY satisfied patients.) She gave me an eye exam and noticed a slight flaw in the exam given to me by Jahnle--it was a very slight disagreement. When I showed her the prices I paid for eyeglasses at Jahnle she was let's say, a bit surprised. She was nice about it, tried to justify it, but said, "Dad, I could never charge prices like this." Okay--again, that was on me. But my daughter showed more concerned about the chip. "You couldn't have done this dad," she said. "Polycarbonate doesn't chip like this. This was done at their lab. You better have them put in new lenses because that chip could crack and spider." (Strike two) So I called Jahnle and complained about the chip. They ordered a new pair of lenses. Finally the lenses arrived. So, I went and waited and waited. The optician, after wrestling almost 45 minutes trying to mount the lens, came out and said to me--get this: "I put the one lens on, but the other doesn't fit--the holes are too small." "But THAT'S the lens that's got the chip!!! Do you understand what you're telling me? THAT"S the one with the chip--see it?" I said, pointing at the chip. "Yes, I see it. I'm sorry," he said. "If it's okay with you, I'd like to keep the frames. I want to send everything back to the lab and have them put the lenses on." "So, you're telling me that I have to come back? That's what you're saying?" He nods and apologizes again. "You can't mail it?" He shakes his head, "No, we have to make sure they're fitted properly--believe me, I'm angry about this as well." "Tell me this something, I'd like to know... WHY didn't anyone see the chip on the lens? You're supposedly professionals, you charge top-dollar, you say that everything here is checked and doubled checked and yet you gave me a brand-new pair of FLAWED glasses. Why?" He had no answer. "So, in other words, this department is totally incompetent. I mean, I can't see it any other way, can you?" Again, he didn't answer. (Strike three) Now, it sure wasn't the fault of this optician. He was in the middle. He was just trying to do his job but was working with a flawed lens. So, whose fault is this? Whoever's running the optical department--the buck stops at Management. That pair of eyeglasses should have IMMEDIATELY been sent back to the lab with a stern message to make good on it--and fast. In summation: A business or practice is not just about accolades but also about reprimand. I wish I did not have to give one star. Jahnle's a group of excellent ophthalmologists--that's what they do and that's what they're focused on. Their optometry department is also quite competent and I would not hesitate to continue going to Jahnle for my eye health. But there's just no way to exclusively review the optical department with touching the other two being that all three departments are under one umbrella: I regretfully had no other choice and if you look, you'll find similar reviews. read more

I am always particular about doctors, especially when I am dealing with something new. When I went to Jahnle Eye they made me feel comfortable about something that I have not dealt with before. Elegant explanations made the process comfortable and I felt that there was a clear diagnosis and prognosis. I've been going to Jahnle Eye Associates for many years, and I've always found the doctors and staff to be first rate. At my most recent appointment, I waited for about five minutes before being seen by the team, and all aspects of my appointment progressed smoothly from there. I was out in less than one hour after a full and comprehensive exam. I always need dilation for my appointments, so I'd recommend that the practice remind patients to bring sunglasses with them. read more

It was as if they were doing everyone a favor by their mere no personality frowning faces. I cannot say enough great things about Jahnle Eye doctors (Dr. Mekel and especially Dr. Krespan). Dr. Mekel has always gotten my prescription right where others haven't. Dr. Krespan conducted cataract surgery for both eyes and her care and attention to detail were impeccable. You can train to be a skilled doctor but to me what makes an excellent doctor is one that cares about the person... that is Dr. Krespan. She's amazing. She even stayed with me during surgery prep when a new nurse was really struggling with my IV bc she saw I was starting to freak out at the chaos happening. Both of my cataract surgeries went well and she did a great job explaining everything and answering all my questions. Where things go wrong at this office is the other staff members, particularly the eye glasses department. The first time I bought glasses from here (2018), they had to return them bc the frames broke (before I even got them), so it took longer for me to get them. Once I got the frames, they broke within a year. Meanwhile I have other frames I've had for upwards of 10 years. The second time I got lenses only (I bought quality frames elsewhere), they mysteriously scratched. My warranty covered the lenses. Then, because I had cataract surgery and these lenses were purchased within a year, I was still under warranty for my new post-cataract prescription change. When I went to pick up the new pair (progressive lenses), I could only see within a small vertical column vs. my previous experience of having a wider range of vision horizontally across the lens (i.e., I could see only within the width of a straw vs. being able to see through the lens at the width of an inch or more). This could not have been met with more indifference and lack of interest from Stephanie in making sure I could actually see out of my glasses. There was zero interest in solving or understanding the issue. When I took my glasses to another eye store, I discovered my insurance had been used. I called Barb and learned my single prescription sunglasses were charged to my insurance (I didn't give permission to do that and had no idea it was done) so now I can't use it to fix my regular eye glasses lenses. During this phone call, Barb was again completely disinterested in being helpful, concerned or as though she gave a single care about the fact her lenses weren't allowing me to see properly. Finally, whenever I had an appointment there, it was so unfriendly and rude, "Do you have an appointment?" How about, "Hi, how are you? How can I help you?" And, yes, of course, I have an appointment! I'm in here all the time between eye exam, cataracts appts, and new lenses -- you don't know me by now?! Such bad energy in this section of the office. So, HIGHLY recommend the doctors, be prepared for unfriendly staff (not all, but some), and DEFINITELY stay away from getting your glasses made at this location. read more

Horrible service and they do not respect ones time. I came here for the first time after not seeing a doctor for over two yrs. I told them I was a diabetic and needed everything checked. Told me I would be taken care of. Waited 3 weeks for an appointment. Came in today and was told I was only in for a medical exam and if I wanted all checked I would need to reschedule. Wednesday - May 8, 2013 - 9:00 AM It's had been three years since my last examination. My insurance company listed several optometrists/ophthalmologists in my area. I selected Jahnle because of convenient location, free parking, and yes, examination, and eyeglasses. Stacks of eyeglasses in different colors and styles were neatly positioned ahead as I entered the office. The office was eye-pleasing, properly lit, and well-appointed. The staff was professional and courteous. An assistant promptly completed a questionnaire as I provided answers about my health status. She applied drops for the standard Glaucoma and retinal examinations. The tests were conducted quickly and comfortably. Best yet, no sign of vision deterioration and no need for replacement glasses. The examining physician, Dr. Mekel, indicated that I would not need another exam for two years. Although glasses could be ordered here, he provided a prescription in the event I wished glasses manufactured elsewhere. A pleasant experience! read more

Yesterday I saw Dr. Kelly Krespan, she was reassuring, professional, kind and definitely put my mind at ease. I had seen Dr Linares 1 1/2 years earlier when I experienced flashes of light and discomfort from floaters. He, too, was kind, professional and helped me to understand what was going on with my eyes. So yesterday as I was experiencing pain, headaches over my eye, watering and extreme discomfort. I called and received a same day appointment. When Dr Linares found out what my complaint was he suggested I see Dr Krespan, the cornea specialist so I'd receive the proper treatment. I was very impressed with the practice wanting to make sure I saw the proper professional the first time. The offices of Jahnle Eye Associates are pleasant, and clean. I find the staff is accommodating. People receive a reminder call, and while at the office a sticker is offered with the next time, to carry or place on a calendar. "The Eyeglass Boutique" has quite a selection but it is COSTLY. I phoned them because 2 of my eye specialists, who also practice in NE Philly, are connected. The Roosevelt Blvd. drive is too stressful. The physicians I highly recommend are Dr. Jeff Greene & Dr. Hugo Linares for challenging vison issues. I have never had a problem getting help with an emergency, there has been a few. I was alone at home and met with a Dr. in Media. When upset by one specific incident it was quickly fixed and surely will not occur again. Note the Havertown office shares a building with Crozer-Keystone Health System Surgery Center & free parking. The alternate site is Media behind Riddle Hospital, (free spaces may be available). read more

Worst front desk staff ever. Rude, unwilling to help and difficult. They called me with an issue with my insurance. The rude girl on the phone was not willing to explain in regular terms what the issue was. Then she said that she could figure it out for me but it would take her "a lot of time" so I needed to figure it out on my own. The doctors have always been good here but you have to deal with the rude difficult staff. Not worth it at all. read more

Jahnle Eye Associates is the BEST! I started seeing them when I first moved permanently to the area after college as my now husband goes to them and highly recommended them. Dr. Pasion is wonderful, so friendly and thorough, I never feel rushed. I also love how they have evening hours a couple nights a week, it has saved me from having to leave early or take off work entirely.
