I always get the half order of catfish fillet, usually with a baked potato, and I have NEVER been disappointed. No joke, some of the best catfish I have had in my life! I was able to go last week while visiting, and tried the spicy catfish fillet for the first time. The breading was a little thicker than their regular fillet, but crisp and full of flavor without being overly spicy. The sides are served family style, which is dangerous for me, because I could easily take down a family's worth of creamy coleslaw, white beans with red pepper relish, and hushpuppies before my catfish even has an opportunity to get to the table. Those hushpuppies..... soooooo good! Nice and crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Large parking lot out front with the iconic Catfish statue alerting everyone that they got the right place for catfish. The interior is unassuming, and according to my dad, hasn't changed much in the last 50 years. It's clean though, and in my opinion, if you have a good thing going, then why change? The staff is super nice, and they take cash and card. Please NEVER change Catfish Kitchen!

One of the coolest things about watching Fairview grow over the years has been seeing places like…read moreIsshin become part of the town's identity. Growing up around here, you get used to chain restaurants being the main options, so having a genuinely good Japanese steakhouse and sushi restaurant right in the middle of Fairview still feels special to me. Isshin has honestly become one of those places that locals are proud to show off when friends or family come into town. What I love most about Isshin is that it doesn't feel like some rushed corporate hibachi chain. It has its own personality and atmosphere. From the moment you walk in, there's this calm, welcoming environment that makes it feel comfortable whether you're there for a casual lunch, dinner with family, or celebrating something special. The restaurant has been serving Fairview since around 2013, and you can tell they've built a loyal customer base over the years because people genuinely keep coming back. The food is honestly some of the best you'll find in the area. For a small town like Fairview, having fresh sushi, hibachi, ramen-style dishes, and Japanese cuisine done this well is something a lot of people probably take for granted. Their hibachi dinners are always filling and flavorful, and the portions are generous enough that you definitely leave satisfied. The steak and chicken hibachi are consistently good, and the fried rice somehow tastes better every single time I go. Another thing that deserves recognition is how reliable they are. Everybody in Fairview has those restaurants where you never really question whether the food will be good because it always is, and Isshin has become one of those places. Whether you dine in, order takeout, or grab delivery after a long day, the quality stays consistent. That's honestly one of the hardest things for restaurants to maintain, especially in growing towns where business gets busier every year. The staff has always been friendly in my experience, and you can tell they work hard to keep things moving smoothly even during rushes. There's a good balance between quick service and still making customers feel welcomed. It feels like one of those places where the employees genuinely care about the experience people have when they come in. Honestly, Isshin represents something bigger than just good food. It represents Fairview continuing to grow while still keeping that hometown feeling alive. Watching our town slowly become more developed over the years has been bittersweet at times, but businesses like Isshin make that growth feel positive. It's one of those places that gives Fairview character and makes people proud of where they're from. At this point, Isshin isn't just "the Japanese restaurant in town." It's become a local staple. Whether it's after church on Sunday, dinner after a football game, date nights, family celebrations, or just grabbing sushi with friends, this restaurant has become part of so many people's routines and memories in Fairview. Places like this are what turn a growing town into an actual community, and Fairview is lucky to have it.

A decent option if you're looking for a casual, family-style meal, but don't expect anything…read moreremarkable. The food is fairly plain and uninspired compared to other hibachi restaurants in the area -- I'd place it on the lower end of the spectrum. Worth noting: there are no cooks preparing your food in front of you at the table. Your order is simply brought out to you. One thing that stood out negatively: when placing a takeout order, I was charged $4 for extra Yum Yum sauce. That felt excessive and a bit off-putting for what is typically a complimentary condiment. Overall, it's a mediocre dining experience. Since dining options in Fairview are limited, it may be your best bet if you're looking for something close to home -- but if you're willing to make the drive, there are better hibachi restaurants worth seeking out.

But highly specialized foreign cuisine like Indian, Vietnamese, or in this case Korean, is typically found in the big city. It doesn't just happen in random places. One would think those can't exist beyond the suburban reaches of a heavily populated area. And they preferably occur in a neighborhood with a significant ethnic population that guarantees the demand for authenticity. When I saw the phenomenal online ratings for Fat Tiger, a greatly heralded Korean joint on the periphery of the Nashville metropolitan area, way out in the countryside by city slickers' standards, I wondered if it was too good to be true. Were these ratings inflated, or was this a hidden gem people need to know about? The only way to discover the truth was to drive myself out there. Boy was that drive worth it! Fat Tiger is legit! While my standards are unreasonably lofty after eating copious dishes in South Korea on several occasions, the recipes made at Fat Tiger passed down from a Korean grandmother are spot on! Yes, it's true, some of the best Korean food in Middle Tennessee is all the way out in Dickson County!! Thank heavens for crowd-sourced review sites finding spots like this! On their recommendation, I went with the jaeyook bokkeum that I'd fallen in love with on an outing in Seoul. It's thinly shaved spicy pork marinated in a gochujang rub, pleasantly spicy but not so hot that you couldn't enjoy it. That was absolute perfection! The meat was so tender, the flavors so rich and complex without overpowering, the sauce in just the right portions. And you get so much food for the price! Now I just need to return to sample the rest of the menu! I see you, Bulgogi Loaded Fries!

From the moment my husband and I stepped up to the elaborately funky barn entrance to explore the charming sights/vibes/smells inside, we were both immediately hungry for all the fatty good fun promised within that fabulous menu. The sweet staff were all such a pleasure as well, especially the kind young lady who offered me a sample of the exquisite turnip green soup because I mentioned it looked good...and it was! We ended up sharing the FANTASTIC shrimp burger with fries and the equally delightful seafood pancake, which was one of the best I've yet to try. And how about those awesome dipping sauces that same sweet staff brought us for our first tastes? It only enhanced the excellent flavors and textures of our dishes! Soooo glad we happened to stop by on our way out of town and soooo willing to make the trek back if we're close by there again--what an awesome eatery and a pleasant surprise! Also, if Guy Fierri hasn't made his way here yet he NEEDS to like yesterday, because it's just the type of perfectly unique stop you'd see on his Flavortown adventures: HINT-HINT!!

It's the wife's favorite, and if it's not a good version, the restaurant is not going on repeat. I give them credit, overly sweet and sticky, which is what you'd expect in sesame chicken. Big chunks of nicely cooked, tender, thigh. A few al dente large pieces of broccoli. Next order, I'd also include a vegy dish to better balance the chicken and veg. Also tried the Szechuan triple delight. The dish is described as spicy, and I requested extra spicy, but it still had just a light touch of heat. It was a nice mix of protein and veg. A bit too heavy on the onion. There were just a couple shrimp but they were big tasty and tender. Lots of thin velveted slices of protein - honestly I couldn't tell for sure if it was chicken beef or pork, but it was very tender and pleasant, so I'll just stick with "happy mystery meat". Will definitely be giving Asian Taste a return visit.

And, somewhat surprisingly...the same was true for Great Wall of China early afternoon on a weekday. There was a virtual constant flow of patrons coming and going, picking up call-in orders, and stopping for a mid-afternoon lunch. (1:30 - 2:30pm) Regardless of the "buzz," we were politely greeted by Lynn (Lin ?) and seated immediately. Drink orders were taken (fountain drinks or bottled available), menus presented. Drinks delivered and orders taken within 5 - 10 minutes....and a small dish of complementary candied peanuts placed on table. They were delightful. Our orders came out within another 10 minutes or so....even while customers continued to come and go. And 3 different people came out to check if everything was in order..."all good?" - "yes." First for me was a hot, super crispy, veggie egg roll. Multi layers of rice paper wrappers contained a rather bland stuffing. A dollop of "Momofuku-style/Lao Gan Ma" chili crunch with its savory, salty, spicy, umami nature helped. (Of course the traditional hot mustard or duck sauce could have been chosen instead...but none was offered.) Second - my go-to lunch dish, Hunan Chicken. Uber-tender small bites of white breast chicken sauted and bathed in an earthy sauce, along with carrots, mushrooms, onions, and zucchini. Good - yes. Great....not quite. The depth of flavor wasn't here. But the subtle and persistent heat was spot on. Chicken and broccoli for my luncheon guest...was also shy of our top marks. And this dish (attested by both of us) was way over-salty. Too much soy or...? We'll ask next time. Regardless, we will be back because the selection and affordability of pretty darn good Chinese food is what we continue to seek on our Yelping quest across all cuisines of the world....especially close to home.

I love all styles of Chinese food--from Americanized classics to more traditional dishes--so I was excited to try a range of items. I ordered several dishes to get a good feel for the menu, including sautéed mixed vegetables, egg rolls, steamed dumplings, wonton soup, and sesame chicken. The sautéed mixed vegetables unfortunately missed the mark for me. The sauce was extremely strong and completely overpowered the dish, making it difficult to enjoy. My roommate ended up finishing it and agreed--the sauce was just too intense. The egg rolls were also a bit underwhelming. The wrapper wasn't as crispy as I would've liked, and the filling leaned heavily toward meat without much vegetable balance, which made the flavor feel a bit one-dimensional. The steamed dumplings were better and one of the stronger items we tried, though I think a more flavorful or complementary dipping sauce--and a bit more variety in the filling--would take them to the next level. The wonton soup had a really nice, well-balanced broth, and the wontons themselves were cooked perfectly. That said, the soup felt a little lacking in substance. Adding vegetables like cabbage, carrots, or peas could really round it out and make it more satisfying. The standout of the meal was the sesame chicken. It was well-prepared, flavorful, and came with a good portion of broccoli--though I wouldn't have minded even more. Overall, No.1 Chinese falls somewhere in the middle. It's a decent option if you're looking for quick takeout, but if you're searching for something more memorable or elevated, you may want to keep exploring.
