When friends become family!…read more The dictionary defines family as people connected by blood, legal ties like marriage or adoption, or strong emotional bonds. Herb and the entire staff at Voodoo Gumbo established a strong emotional bond with my family and me over four years ago, and EVERY TIME I come to Nashville, this is my go-to place to enjoy great food and even better company. I came back to celebrate my recent retirement following 25 years of service in the Air Force. Not only did Herb remember me, but he thought it no robbery to celebrate me with a very special dessert--I've totally been sleeping on the bread pudding and beignet on Sunday--IYKYK! The food here is always top tier--no wonder they have such a high rating with over 500 reviews-- but the personal touches are next level. Thanks always.

I'm a sucker for good oysters and mignonette sauce and these were on point giving an easy 5 for the review! The lobster roll was amazing, but those are Rox's jam, not as much mine. You walk in and can see the raw bar and part of the kitchen. All of the staff welcomed us in and were very friendly. The restaurant feels like a fish market with the open concept. I liked how it was nice and high quality food and drinks, without being too fancy. That makes it so much easier to enjoy a good meal without dressing to the Ts. I opted out of getting a drink this time, but they had three Floyd's canned beer which my boyfriend ordered. It was good and they did serve it with a glass which is always appreciated. We both ordered the grouper sandwich (mine with no bun) and then shared the hamachi crudo. The crudo was delicious, but the hibiscus sauce was slightly over powering in my opinion. I really liked the sauce, I just prefer to be able to taste the fish a little bit more. The fish itself was very good. The group was huge! (Yes we both ate the entire thing). That "Florida sauce" they serve with it is a game changer. Might have to order more to go next time. Definitely will be back to Fishmonger! This time with a reservation!

Our server, (forgot his name) was outstanding and so were all the staff that night. We stared with the calamari and it was good, but we had more fried shrimp than calamari which we thought was odd. We split the wedge salad which was good but dressing was on the rather sweet side. The potato was okay, not really special. The best part was the steak. Made perfectly and good but will say it was pretty fatty so a few areas we couldn't eat. Also the macaroni and cheese is usually one of my fave but this time lacked flavor and was dry. All in all, it was okay and not our norm experience with their food.

If you're looking for a restaurant that puts seafood front and center, put this place on your list!…read moreIt can get busy, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time. No reservation? Don't worry, you may be able to grab a seat at the beautiful bar when you walk in. The atmosphere is fantastic. There's great music playing softly in the background, and as you look around, you realize you're dining inside a beautifully renovated old warehouse. Here's a little inside history: the building was once used to make handles for old hammers and axes. Look closely at some of the beams and you can actually see the hammer marks! Okay, enough history, let's talk drinks! I started with an Old Fashioned made with Sazerac Rye Bourbon. It was very good and served with clear ice, which is always a good sign. My only complaint? They used a red cherry instead of a Maraschino cherry. They definitely need to step up their Old Fashioned game! They also made a great Dirty Martini, or as I like to call it, a "Dirty & Skanky Martini." Now for the food! We started with the Spanish Octopus, which was absolutely delicious. The Bluefin Belly was very good, and the Corn-Milk Hush Puppies were SOOOO good! We also tried the Summer Squash, which was another great addition to the meal. For my entrees, I went with the Wild Striped Bass, WOW! Amazing flavor, and check out the Jonah Crab on top! I also tried the Grilled Swordfish with Brisket Marmalade, and that was another winner. The combination of flavors was fantastic! And I have to give a big shout-out to the service. Everyone was amazing, attentive, knowledgeable, and clearly knew the menu inside and out. If you're visiting Nashville, or you live here, put this place on your list! Great atmosphere, creative seafood dishes, excellent service, and some really memorable food. I'll definitely be back!

A nice surprise was the bacon--not crumbled on top, but two large slices that added great flavor and texture. We also enjoyed a couple of cocktails.
