My partner and I had booked a couples massage with Emma and Cindy for this afternoon. Jade Oasis called me this morning to inform me that one of the massage therapists was ill today. I had not checked my phone yet earlier today, so we arrived 10 minutes prior to our appointment time, as Jade Oasis had requested that we do. I was hoping to have a relaxing day mostly or fully offline, and mostly or fully not checking my phone today. It has been a very stressful month. After this experience, I wanted to write my review today, though. Emma was very apologetic and she explained that Jade Oasis had called me that morning to inform me that the therapist was ill. I explained to her that I had not checked my phone yet today. I understand that Emma cannot help it if a therapist is ill, but this felt stressful to me. I value my time very highly, and the point of getting a massage was to reduce stress and to help me to hopefully sleep better. So this actually added stress to my day instead of taking stress away from my day. I have received massage from over 75 massage therapists in the Seattle area, and I am probably very lucky but this has never happened to me before that a spa or massage therapy place has tried to reschedule my massage with me on the same day that my massage was scheduled for. So, at first I really didn't know what to do. Emma said that she could give me a single massage herself later today, but my partner and I had scheduled for the couples massage. When I review a massage here on yelp, I usually explain that I graduated from the Port Townsend School of Massage myself in 2016, however, I have never practiced massage professionally. Jade Oasis was clean and the massage room was nice, however, I noticed a small black ant on the toilet tank when I went to the bathroom. I noticed another small black ant on my leg after I left the massage room. My partner noticed a small black ant on his jacket when he was sitting in the waiting room. They might want to check into the ant problem, if they haven't already. There are definitely worse bugs to find on you after a massage. But this is the first time that I have ever had a bug crawling on me after a massage, too. If it was just one ant I probably wouldn't have mentioned it in my review, but I felt that 3 ants in 3 separate places was worth mentioning. It took me a bit of time to decide what to do when our couples massage was cancelled, and I ended up deciding to receive a single massage from Emma. My partner sat there in the waiting room for the entire time instead of receiving his massage. Emma is a very skilled massage therapist. I loved the pink himalayan salt hot stones, even though I run hot. It's been years since I have received hot stone massage, and I hadn't realized that would be offered or included. The single massage cost $110 for 60 minutes. I tipped $30 (which Emma fully deserved) so it was a cost of $140. I felt that the value was very good for Emma's skill level. I brought my own massage oil, Mandarin essential oil in jojoba & almond oils, and Emma kindly used that. I am highly allergic to coconut/palm oil, so I usually bring my own oil to a massage. Emma used Bergamot and Lemon essential oils for aromatherapy, too, after checking with me first. Emma is obviously very intelligent. She was a bit too chatty for my liking during my massage (she started up a few chats when I was quiet and relaxed) and she gave me way too many compliments, although that may have partly been because I was clearly stressed about having to reschedule my massage. I did like her compliment about my silvery gray hair being beautiful. I am starting to really embrace being middle aged, and I do love my natural hair color, even though I also love hats. I am a curious person and Emma was already being a bit chatty, so I asked her a bit about her massage therapy school background. Emma is a graduate of Bellevue Massage School. That school has a good reputation. Emma also shared with me that she was 3rd in her class despite English not being her first language. Even though I barely know her, I felt proud of her. Massage Therapy School is harder than you might think, even if English is your first language. Emma and I both agreed that Kinesiology is one of the most difficult classes in Massage Therapy School. My former regular massage therapist of 8 - 9 years was actually my Musculoskeletal Anatomy and Kinesiology Instructor in Massage Therapy School. I'm trying to find a new regular massage therapist now, but it's difficult to find a massage therapist who is in his league. However, Emma was definitely among the better massage therapists I've received massage from. I am ambivalent about this experience, but I know that my standards for massage therapy are pretty high, and I have a harder time with being rescheduled than the average person would. I wouldn't fully recommend Jade Oasis, but I wouldn't fully not recommend them either. read more

My significant other really wanted a massage as we were here for a five day vacation so he booked us a couples massage. The two ladies were extremely nice, hilarious and friendly. They were eager to welcome us and let us know their thoughts. However, we both requested deep tissue massages and felt they were going very lightly. We both felt our backs were highly emphasized during the massage and our limbs were neglected. My partner at one point asked them to massage certain areas more but he still noted they did not put enough pressure. I had the same experience of feeling they gave a very very light massage. It isn't often that I write reviews, but I take the time when I feel it's merited. In Emma's case, she's absolutely earned it. To give you perspective of the task she has in me: I'm a former career firefighter with bad knees who spent close to 2 years in physical therapy getting myself up somewhere close to par. I'm 6'1" tall, and weigh a solid 240lbs (ok, we'll call 20lbs of that not-so-solid). In physical therapy I learned not to judge a therapist by her size, and Emma is no exception. Emma has proven capable of helping me with deep stretches, relieving tension in my IT bands, and my soleus muscles (deep third calf muscle that's attached to your Achilles tendon, and is a pain to stretch well), while maintaining her endurance performing deep tissue work evenly throughout my two hour appointments. My advice to you: book in advance. She's good. read more

I can't say enough about Jade Oasis Wellness in Bellevue! It has that perfect mix of elegance and polish you find in high-end spas, but without the pretension. You get an exceptional massage without paying exceptional prices. When it comes to massages, I can be hard to please. I am always seeking that seemingly impossible blend of deep tissue, to work out all the knots from my activities, and relaxation, to sooth the stress of my work week. But on this, Emma delivers on the impossible! Her technique seems to pull from many different massage styles (such as Swedish, deep tissue, Thai, etc.), but she blends them all together to create a wonderful experience. Also, she is friendly and easy to talk to, but takes your natural queues in how much you want to chat versus just "switch off". Finally, on a recent massage visit, I got to experience just how innovative Jade's approach to massage can be. I was lucky enough to experience a "warm up" sports massage by Deon. Deon is a super powerful therapist and stretches you, with controlled force, in ways you could never imagine. Frankly, it is hard to describe, and best to be experienced. Do NOT go here if you're pregnant. They advertise they can do prenatal massage but the therapist kept saying she was "scared" of me because I'm pregnant and gave the worst massage I've ever had. She barely touched me and wasn't relaxing at all while also didn't alleviate any pain. They should NOT advertise they can give prenatal. I don't normally write reviews; however, I have decided to share my story. I was dealing with a host of chronic health issues, including fibromyalgia, IBS, arthritis, congestive heart failure, thyroid cancer, skin cancer, and cancerous intestinal polyps. Deon at Jade Oasis Wellness is the best massage therapist I have ever had. Myofascial release is the main reason I started massage with Deon. I have chronic pain due to iliotibial band syndrome, and have achieved more relief from that pain in just a few massage sessions with Deon than I got after a full year of physical therapy. Deon advertises that he is "beyond a therapist" and I totally agree. Through his background as a personal trainer he has honed his skills in all aspects of fitness. He is trained in a variety of massage and holistic methods. His interpersonal and communication skills are excellent. In addition to being a master of his craft, he is also a really nice person, very caring and kind. An added bonus of this spa is that they have an amazing offer for those of us over 60 who book a massage between 9 am and noon, Monday through Friday - that session is 50% off, every time.
