I can understand your bad review if your grumpy or expecting an actual NY delicatessen. I think Jacob's is amazing! The people are wonderful locals who take care of you and know their regulars. The food is outstanding. All of it. The pastrami and corned beef are sliced fresh from the steamer and they are heavenly. The matzo ball soup is penicillin and should marketed. My husband's favorite are their knishes! Old fashioned, flaky and flavorful. Their salads are great too. Tables are clean and few but don't expect fancy. It's like the 3-star rating lingers from a combination of previous ownership, lack of decor, and semi-cold-at-first service (but who can blame them with the though crowd lol). Jacob's is serving a very nice portion - one of the most generous in town - of hot, juicy pastrami on perfect double baked rye. Texture and flavor are both good, albeit a possible slight lack of pepper. The huge benefit is that even though it's likely commercial, there's no weird aftertaste here. Hand slicing would be nice but it's ok because this is easily the best pastrami on rye in the area. Prices are reasonable. Jose is the nicest guy. Salads, sides all ok, but knishes could be better. Nice little find. Diverse menu with lots of traditional Jewish soul food. Lunch special was excellent. I had a burger the size of my head. Soup lacked salt, Which is not such a bad thing. Jacobs Restaurant is on the corner of Woolbright and Military in Boynton Beach. Though it is somewhat expensive for the area, their corned beef is the best in town. We were there for lunch and everything was great. They were not too busy and the portions are large and easy to split for the normal appetite. Under the new management of Jose, Jacob's food has reached new heights. We go often, the corned beef and brisket are always excellent. I also think Jacobs has the best chopped liver between here and Miami. The soups are phenomenal starting with the Friday Clam Chowder (manhattan of course), and the mushroom barley. My partner loves the cabbage soup and the split pea. The Chicken Matzo ball soup is always dependable. I prefer it with the wide noodles. A friend had their Thanksgiving dinner and he says it was complete and the turkey was moist and tasty. The staff is very friendly, and ready to serve. read more

That great deli smell permeates the restaurant. It was crowded for a Thursday night and clearly staff was in short supply. Nonetheless, they kept things flowing. I had the beef barley soup and it was very good. Not stingy on the beef either. The fresh thick cut rye bread was wonderful. I had the chicken stir fry and it ticked all the boxes; crunchy carrots and peppers and onions sautéed perfectly. Chicken was a bit tough, but not an issue. Wife had the knockwurst. Went here recently with family members who used to frequent the deli before they relocated. This was our first visit. We had a variety of sandwiches at our table. As someone who's been eating Jewish-style corned beef for over 55 years, I must say this was right up there with the very worst I've ever eaten. It was overlooked and fell apart. I like to open my sandwich and take a slice or two out; absolutely impossible to pick up even one slice without it crumbling. There was little to no flavor at all, which is odd as a man at our table said he had a garlic aftertaste after we left (he also had corned beef). I will say the rye was delicious, though, thank goodness! My husband had the driest turkey breast he'd ever tasted. The sandwich was also served dry. He had to ask for condiments as only mustard and ketchup were on the table. His Cole slaw was also dry. He used another word for it I won't repeat. The person at our table who had tongue said it was good, but it was sliced extremely thin. One good item was the French fries, which unfortunately one doesn't go to a deli for! Even after taking Pepcid before leaving home, we had to take Alka-Seltzer When we got back home. The service was very good, I will add. We dine out frequently, and I always try to review the restaurants fairly, both good and bad. read more

This diner/restaurant/deli in the strip mall near Publix was the closest place to our condo for breakfast. They serve solid (if plain/boring breakfasts). You have a choice of oatmeal, grits, or tomatoes with your eggs and bacon. The challah french toast was very good, and we were psyched to see them sell Halvah at the counter. We were the youngest customers there by at least 40 years (it was a Friday morning). Don't order ice coffee - they don't know how to do it and it came out coffee flavored water. We did take out one morning and got coffee fromt he Dunkin Donuts down the street (Military Trail) - that's the way to go. Was scared to eat the food but took our chances from being so hungry! Not only is the "food" over cooked and dry but the service was so slow! In a poor attempt to mask the bland taste of the food, we asked for hot sauce and was told they don't have it but as i walked out, i saw two bottles sitting on two different tables! Pure laziness! We ordered all of our food together but server forgot to put some food sides in & it came out in stages. The check came and because they are extremely behind times, you can not see what you are paying for... just a bunch of scribbled prices. When brought the owners attention....he was such a JERK and refused to take off anything that could not be explained. (Very angry little fellow) It's not the few extra $$$. Just terribly ran business with bad attitudes & customer service. Save yourselves the disgusting journey and take your hunger elsewhere. Oh!!! Jacob's is very unassuming and easy to pass on the street. This is rather unfortunate as their sandwiches are delicious. I always get their pastrami sandwich, which comes on rye bread with your choice of a side. Every time I have gone it has been delicious and satisfying. I recommend the cucumber salad over the cole slaw and I'd try their large cut french fries which are usually delicious. I've heard nothing but good things about their other sandwiches from members of my dining parties, though I can't say anything about them personally. The service and ambiance are a bit lackluster. Be prepared to wait a bit for your sandwiches and meals as they are made by hand once you order them and not ready to go ahead of time. The restaurant also falls into an uncomfortable silence as their is no music and typically few patrons. Furthermore, prices are fairly steep for their options, be prepared to drop at least $15 for your lunch if you dine in. Good potato pancakes, great cuke salad...Sometimes it's packed, sometimes it's totally empty- no real rhyme or reason, seemingly. We have now found our new go to for Deli!!!We ordered pastrami sandwiches from this location and they were the best we've ever had! The meat was extremely lean but so tender and it was on the best rye bread ever!!! We also ordered a burger and it was huge (my daughter isn't home yet to eat it, but I will let you know) All I can say is give them a try, you won't be disappointed!!! From entering to leaving a totally positive experience on all counts. I arrived and was meeting another couple. Despite the restaurant being very crowded i was seated and not asked to wait until the rest of my party arrived. When seated i was promptly given menus for the three of us and water for myself. My friends arrived about 10-15 minutes after i did. Their water was then brought to them. John, our waiter was there in an appropriate amount of time and took our orders. We all started with soup.. matzo ball or manhattan chowder. We all enjoyed that. The matzo ball was light and fluffy. Our 1/2 sandwiches were also good. My friends had white fish and said it was good. I had pastrami which was very good. I also had a potato pancake, also good. They brag that their rye bread is home baked and it was really good bread. A nice touch was John opened our cans of soda and asked if it was okay if he poured them. When we went to the register to pay the check there was a bit of a line so i heard several conversations between the man at the register and the paying patrons. He was very personable and appreciative of their coming. When it was my turn to pay I asked him he was Jose. He said he was and i told him how we all enjoyed our meals. I had heard many good things about Jacob's Deli and the new owner Jose. I ordered a pastrami sandwich on seeded rye. Being a pastrami "maven" by my own admission, I was pleasantly surprised. The pastrami was lean, tender and plentiful. Actually it was very delicious. The rye bread was exceptional and complimented the pastrami very well. The cole slaw and pickles were ordinary, but I have been overwhelmed for years with the cole slaw at a certain deli in Boca Raton. There was good value for the price of the sandwich. I might add the pastrami was layered on the bread, not rolled to appear bigger. My order was ready when I arrived and Jose was friendly and courteous. I wish him all the best in a tough business. Jacob's is not even worth the single star I gave them, but I had no choice. I have eaten here in the past and found the food mediocre at best. I came mainly as I needed a quick meal and didn't want to wait for a table at his better and busier competitors like 3G's, and Ben's, etc. Fortunately the owner "Jacob" was never there. Not so tonight when I came with my wife for dinner, she had to return her tongue sandwich as it was spoiled, I realize that can happen and we didn't make a big deal about it. However, when I went to pay the check and questioned a charge, requesting an item that I was charged for, but not received, Jacob became loud, abusive and started cursing me. As a restaurant reviewer I never encountered behavior of this kind from an employee or an owner. My wife and I had lunch there today and were very disappointed. Their pastrami and corned beef sandwich was not up to their usual standards. They usually pile up the meat, and it is warm juicy and tender. Not today, we noticed Jose the manager was not running the place but there was a very rude and not very nice man there in his place. He seemed like he was doing you a favor to take your money and thank you. We need Jose back in control of this place, because the food was outstanding when he took your order. Ok lets get real here. This is not a high highfalutin joint. It's a place to grab a breakfast special or a good brisket sandwich. I have also had the Rueben and the Romanian corn beef in the past. All 3 were very satisfying, the corn beef was really tasty. Was it the best ever, no. As good as other establishments located nearby that serve the same fare? Yes indeed.. It's unpretentious in your standard Publix plaza, next to the popular Mama Mias Italian restaurant on Woolbright at Military Trail. This type of establishment appeals to the over 55 er 65 Boynton Beach crowd of which in a 2 or 3 mi diameter is pretty significant. No booths here just tables and chairs and plenty of attentive help who provide excellent service. So today I had my personal hangover special..2 large eggs over medium with crispy home fries and an everything bagel with lots n lots of coffee. Only $4.25 Yep that's right All that for under $5 It's a really good value. Eggs done perfectly allowing me to carve around the yoke before hoisting that baby into my waiting ..well you get the picture..The generous mound of home fries were actually amazing IMO. Loved them. Totally burnt, crispy with burnt onions to boot! On that score I couldn't have asked for anything more. The everything bagel however was rather pedestrian. Kinda smallish. And I would like to not have to ask for another tiny cream cheese cup. Seriously the one provided basically covers half a bagel. Less then a shmear its merely a streak. They are not the only place that does this though so ask up front if your the type that likes to lay it on thick. A rather small 8 oz coffee cup filled with standard java but the team of waiters seem to enjoy working there and helping each other out so I was topped off 4 times. As an aside to this review I need to remember to bring my own raw honey. I hate white sugar and all the sugar substitutes that every place has on the tables. I am working on a design for a condiment holder that people can take or maybe wear when the dine out that has several pouches for home made packets of dressing, ketchup, mustard, mayo, bbq sauce etc Because in many cases you'd be smart to garnish with your own healthy options or specialty brand choices. Any investors lol? All in all this option for breakfast probably is not as healthy as my normal routine of steel cut oatmeal with blueberries walnuts flax seed and cinnamon but when I need to down a couple eggs and drink 5 cups of coffee to feel normal and get going after a long night out Jacobs breakfast special hits the spot. Knowing me I am quite sure I will feel like crap again one morning soon so I will be back.
