I was having trouble with my EV charger tripping breakers in my main utility box, knocking out the power to my entire home every time I charged. Within a day of reaching out, Jacob inspected the system and quickly diagnosed the issues, and a day later repaired the main utility box and also rewired the EV charger in my garage sub-station, so it is now able to charge at a higher kwh rate than before without any issues. The Good: :: they were responsive and are a local business :: they were friendly :: they were able to correctly install outlets I needed on the outside wall of my bedroom and area outside my gazebo The Bad: :: they put some sales pressure on me to replace the lights on the patio area and I said it was fine. however, they still took the liberty of removing the light cover from one of them and then put it back but it now doesn't quite hang right and sags slightly on its side The Ugly: :: the outlet they installed on the patio wasn't using the right screws and anchors. as a result, the outlet comes out of the concrete wall. they kept flaking on me when they said they would come back to fix the issue, week after week, text after text. finally they just stopped responding to me. i tried to fix it myself and used some strong epoxy and it fixed one corner but the other one is still not quite right. Would I use them again? No. Pissed that I have to follow up after their work and fix things myself. Good companies guarantee their work--this place isn't one of those. I learned my lesson to do more due diligence outside of just seeing a high Yelp rating! This place is OUT. read more

Had 8...yes 8 fans and some lights to hang and man were they done fast. Great job on them all and they wired them all in and I watched so it was apparent this was easy for them. I would take 1-2 hours per fan and at least three blood pressure pills and 12 ibuprofens. So needless to say it was worth every penny and was a reasonable per-fan price. read more

I made a huge mistake going with Jacob's Ladder. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't trust these guys to change a battery. I had them come out to replace bad GFCI outlets at my girlfriend's house. She has five GFCI outlets. They only replaced four. While I can somewhat forgive this because the outlet was behind a microwave, the breaker box very clearly indicated which breakers had GFCI, and the microwave/fridge breaker was labeled as GFCI. Now for the super egregious failing of their job. Two of the GFCI outlets failed within six months, so I took a closer look at what they did. They placed 15-amp GFCIs on two 20-amp outlets, and they placed a 20-amp GFCI on a 15-amp outlet. These guys only managed to get 1 of 5 outlets correct! What a joke! Are they incompetent or do they just not care? I'm not sure, but I highly recommend going was somebody else. read more

Jacob's Ladder installed a NEMA 14-50 plug in our garage for electric car charging. At first, we were happy with the work, service and price. However, when we had a professional inspection done they discovered that they did not install a protective bushing where the wires enter the panels. This is dangerous. Upon contacting them, they were prompt to respond and apologize and said they would fix it ASAP. It has been a month and a half and after multiple follow-ups, they still have not come to fix it. We are now going to have to hire someone else to do it, because we are selling our house. While they were generally responsive to my follow ups, there was always something preventing them from resolving the issue. Even a request for a quote for another electrical issue we submitted was never answered. I liked them very much when they came for the initial install and it does sound like they are facing some challenges. But, I thought others should know as they consider Jacob's Ladder as an option right now. read more

Master electrician reported that the panel was not up to code, dangerous, and a safety hazard. Jacob and his associate are fantastic. I recently bought a house and had some GCFI and breaker issues come up during the inspection I hired them to address. When they came out they discovered the GCFI plugs were wired incredibly wrong, and would have caused major issues. They explained to me simply how it was done wrong, what they were doing to fix it, what the costs would be, and thoroughly checked around to make sure they did not miss a plug. I also casually mentioned a light switch that was annoying me, and they were able to quickly explain what was wrong with it and fix it. He also noticed I had a ring doorbell and nest thermostat I had not installed yet and offered a quote to install. I went ahead and had them do the doorbell and he did a great job. Fast forward a few months and when we went to use an outside plug, it started smoking. When I messaged them again through yelp, he came out that very day. Thankfully Jacob assured me that it would not have burned down, but showed me yet again what had caused it, and what he was doing to insure it would not happen again and at what price. The bottom line is that Jacob (and his associates) have always been great to work with, incredibly helpful, with reasonable prices. And they like dogs. We had a GFCI outlet issue that was causing us great distress with our holiday lighting outside. It was knocking out power daily. We contact Jacob and team about the issue. They promptly answered the inquiry within 10 minutes and was willing to send his partner out at 10 pm last night. Being that holiday lighting is not an "emergency," they came early this morning. Mark was helpful, insightful and fixed the whole issue of the GFCI outlets and explained to me the circuitry involved and what he did to help each GFCI outlet (in bathrooms and outside) from being independent of one another. I needed them to install a NEMA 14-50 outlet for my garage to charge my Tesla, and they offered a fair price. After they showed up and got to work, it was Black Friday and I found a good deal on a Nest Doorbell at Home Depot. They already had to go there to pick up some other materials, and they picked it up for me and installed it when they got back! I saw they had been given 5/5 stars on all 16 reviews to date & figured I'd give them a try - SO GLAD I DID!!!! Jacob & Neil were right on time and extremely professional and polite! They did some troubleshooting from a previous install with someone else, diagnosed my problem and installed a new fixture (as opposed to just tearing down the old and slapping up the new). I feel like they went above and beyond from start to finish - very thorough and walked me through each step! I also asked a few questions about future upgrades with outdoor lighting, kitchen fixtures, bathroom vanities, etc. and got some great feedback as to which direction I could go with my current set up as well as some options for updating/rewiring - I will definitely hire them again once I buy new fans and fixtures! I contacted Jacob about giving me a lighting estimate for a small condo complex. The next day Jacob sent me a quote in a text message and I explained to him on three occasions that I needed a detailed quote in writing to present to my HOA to approve the work. I'm still waiting for that quote and my meeting is in two days. I messaged Jacob and told him not to bother sending me a quote because I didn't feel he was being honest and was wasting my time. Jacob responded and said he was very busy and made me feel like other business was more important than my business. I called Jacobs Ladder because the yelp reviews were good and I thought they would do a good job. I don't feel I was treated in a professional manner and I won't be doing business with a company that makes promises they can't keep. read more

User error on my part not checking the breaker box. They only charged me their minimum for coming out which is about half of what they quoted me for doing the whole job. Check your breakers even if you think you've checked them! Lesson learned. read more
