I asked how they managed to have such a great selection at good prices? They told me they are supplied by the same company that Safeway uses!!! You could easily do all your grocery shopping here and not have to $pend the money on gas to get all the way into a bigger town. This place is certainly convenient (and if you're passing through PE Ell and need a "rest(room)…read morestop", it's pretty much your only option). The guy working behind the counter when I went in a couple of days ago was friendly, the restrooms were clean, and the prices on the three items that I bought were reasonable and actually on the lower end. Because of these things, I'm only docking one star for the peanut butter Twix. Yes, I bought one; I hardly ever see them. Today, I started to eat one of the bars and noticed that the cookie part was VERY crunchy -- as in, hard-as-a-rock crunchy. I checked the wrapper for a "best by" date, expecting to see some date this week or possibly even a few days ago. Instead, I noticed (much to my horror) that the "best by" date was sometime in April (four months ago). YUCK! Granted, I could have looked for the date before purchasing, but ... I generally don't think to check such things while shopping, as I'd like to think the stores are on top of keeping their items fresh. In fairness to PE Ell Country Market, they're not exactly the first store to sell past-date or close-to-date items. And of the other two items I grabbed, one is good until November, and the other -- well, I ate it yesterday and didn't check for dates; but it at least didn't taste stale, so it was (probably) fine. I definitely don't want to encourage people NOT to stop here. Just, if you feel like buying a candy bar, you might want to check the date first!

They have gluten free vegan cinnamon rolls! And they're massive!…read more I found this shop just by googling desserts in my area, because I was taking dessert to a friends as my dinner contribution and I'm brand new to the area. I bought six cinnamon rolls and it seemed so excessive because they're so huge. But they made a statement and everyone loved them! I also bought one each of the Macaroons (spelled that wrong but I hope you know what I mean). Those were so delicious and the kids loved them. I also bought a few cookies just to have a little variety and the cookies were tender on the inside and huge also! The staff was so nice and helpful. Cheerful! It was a great place that I look forward to visiting again and again!

The smoker is onsite and all ingredients sourced from local farm or markets in the area. The owner Frank was very friendly gave some great suggestions even checked on us with drink refills. Such great service so rare anymore. We had the most amazing 3 cheese mac and cheese with Brisket the small was big enough! I'm so glad I up'd my salmon kiesh meal to also include the side of the salmon chowder. It was definitely the best chowder I've ever had, complete with flaked smoked salmon on top of a creamy and hearty salmon w/ potato soup. We were so full after our meal I would not normally order dessert. However, he did recommend that we may want to try his wifes amazing homemade carrot cake with the cream cheese icing (which I prefer over an overly sugary one) I am so glad we ordered a slice to go. I ended up having that for breakfast the next morning with coffee and it was out of this world so moist with crunchy nuts on the cream cheese icing. Yum! The cafe is located in downtown Chehalis, which is a cute town. They are completing updates to their 100yr old building. They have an upstairs loft with video games and a dozen tables connected to an artesian market downstairs, think gourmet foods, mead, craft items, fancy bloody mary mix, and they also sell smoked salmon, smoked cheeses in their cooler. I will definitely be back when heading thru Chehalis. What a find!
