The service guy was nice and answered my questions and then he came back about an hour later with a quote. He said you're in luck the compressor is under warranty, but we need to charge you $2500-$2800 for installation. I asked what installation entailed and he told me about 3.5-4 hours of work and I said ok that seems like a lot and he says it's "for our expertise" The unit is supposed to last roughly 15 years per the service tech so it made it less than half, which is obviously frustrating for me I call the owner and say that labor rate seems high, he basically starts yelling at me right away and telling me I don't know anything, etc... I said, "look I'm just trying to have a discussion here. Your tech said the total cost is based on labor (which I assume is marked up to cover overhead), he says "you're an idiot you don't know what you're talking about, it's expensive to run a business etc.... If you don't like it go elsewhere, you don't know anything about quality work" Mind you this is after they installed an AC unit at my condo that failed at less than half the life they expected. I said, "look you guys have this under warranty so I don't want to go elsewhere, but I want to end up at a reasonable labor number" This is where he admits to fraud "it's not under warranty, I just know how to fudge the numbers to the manufacturer to make it look like it's under warranty, if you don't like the price then go elsewhere" He clearly is trying to jack up his price because he knows he has the leverage and I can't get it for less due to the warranty fraud, but whatever at that point I just say "fine can you guys do it at the quoted amount" and he goes off and tells me "no, you're not worthy of our services. We're not doing any business with fucking idiots like you" At this point I'm obviously pissed off and I'm sure I said some not nice things and he hangs up on me. I call back after cooling off because at this point I just want my AC to work. I say look things got heated, I haven't had AC for 4 days, can you guys please come and fix the unit at the quoted price and then he lies and says they don't have anyone available. Do not do business with this company. They deserve to go under. They do shoddy work, abuse leverage in negotiations with their customers, they're rude, arrogant, condescending, and commit fraud. And as I've already said, they aren't even good at what they do based purely off the results of said work that I experienced I ended up paying more to just put in a new AC with a different company because by the end of it, I had lost all confidence in their previous work and wanted to make sure that my AC would work for years to come If I was a supplier/OEM that deals with Metro I would have them investigated for fraud. I will be reaching out to the OEMs and reporting the fraud to their Executive Teams.

This company has saved us TWICE from the most frigid days of winter -- about two years ago and then…read moreagain last night at the outside of the 2019 polar vortex. On top of that, their prices seem completely fair. If you need prompt or emergency service, call Topline. The first time we called, it was early Sunday evening and I noticed our downstairs was exceptionally cold and the radiators weren't pumping out heat. It was one of (if not the) coldest nights of the winter, and we had a 2-year-old child. My husband got out our laptops and called at least 6-10 HVAC companies that touted 24-hour service. For most of them, you have to talk to an answering service that knows absolutely nothing and asks you a bunch of frustrating questions. Then you have to wait for someone who knows anything to call you back. You have know idea how long that's going to take or even if they can make it out to your house that same day. With Topline, we got right through to a real person who worked for the company, and they were able to have a repair tech here in a couple of hours. We had heat back on again that evening. The second time was last night -- right before the temps were supposed to drop to -13 before wind chill. Again, I saw that the temp downstairs was 5 degrees lower than the thermostat was set for. We could hear the steam moving through the radiators, but there was no heat coming off them. Unfortunately, we couldn't remember Topline's name and couldn't find a copy of the invoice from their first repair. So we called a different company that had done a maintenance service on the boiler in the fall. They couldn't have anyone here until this morning between 8 am and noon. As cold as it was outside, we knew we needed to try and get someone here last night or risk a very, very uncomfortable night and frozen pipes in the kitchen. I finally got online, looked at my year-end credit card statements and found Topline's name there under Home Repair. We called them, and once again, they were able to have a tech out here in about 2.5 hours. He diagnosed two possible problems, drove back to his shop for the needed parts, and had the heat running again in about 2 hours. Thanks to the way the company is set up to have techs truly on call 24/7 and to the tech braving the arctic weather, we had heat again as of 2:30 am. We will not be losing Topline's number again!

After Yelp failed to point me in a promising direction, I did a quick search on the BBB website and called the only nearby business with BBB membership and an almost flawless service record-- AA Mechanical . I received an incredibly quick response from AA Mechanical. They quoted the price upfront ($160 for 1/2 hour to figure out what the problem was and to fix it if it was minor) and gave me an accurate estimate of when the technician would arrive. An hour and a half after my original phone call a friendly, efficient, professional, and knowledgeable technician rang my doorbell. He solved the problem right away and was even very patient when my landlord showed up with a ton redundant questions just as he was finishing up. The technician patiently explained the problem and demonstrated what he was talking about to ease my landlord's mind. He avoided the temptation to push what would have been an easy sale of a new, and possibly unnecessary, heating system and didn't charge extra for the additional time he spent explaining things to my landlord. Although this was my first experience with calling a heating technician, I was extremely pleased. I would definitely call AA again in the future if I have any problems.

He finished the job and got it done, which is what needed to be done. That being said, I must say that I was extremely displeased in the attitude and the overall rip off job that was ultimately performed. Walter's attitude from the moment he stepped into my house was that of someone that is doing you a favor and not of a business transaction. It was a Saturday and he made it very clear that he was taking time out of his weekend to be here. If you're in the business of repairing a furnace, either work the weekend during your busy season or don't. I don't care, it's up to you, but you don't need to be a prick about it especially since it's your own business. I have to work weekends too and know its part of my job. He had the choice to be there, no one forced him. $125 diagnostic fee. Ok, I get it, you need to be paid for your visit. No worries. $600 for replacement part and labor, plus the original diagnostic fee, so total of $725. Total labor time of 1.3 hours (which included the diagnostic time). Total cost of replacement part $60 (brand new on Amazon). Let's do the math here. Even if he marks up the part to $100, he's charging me $417/hour for labor. Unless you have no other choice, I'd go elsewhere. I would have given 1 star but for the fact that he got the job done.
