We were passing through Birmingham when our radiator hose broke. Thankfully, we happened to pull off in Pelham and spotted Jack's Garage and Radiator. Sandy and Jamie have gone way and beyond helping us. They worked diligently to get us back on the road. While we waited, they dropped us off at a restaurant for lunch and picked us up. My parents took their 2002 Chevy Silverado in to get the parking brake fixed and have the brakes checked. They quoted front and rear pads on top of the brake shoes for the parking brake. My parents told them to go ahead and fix it, once the truck was back it sat for about a month until i drove it. I knew the front rotors were warped before they took it in for service and I was a surprised to find out that the rotors were still warped, even after they supposedly did a brake job. I checked the invoice and realized that the tech quoted a pad slap (front and rear) and didn't recommend replacing or even resurfacing the rotors. I also checked the old brake pads and found that they still had 4 to 5 mm of material left and were not in immediate need of replacement. I was expecting to look at the invoice and see a proper brake job that at least included turning the rotors. As a technician myself I'm extremely disappointed in the service we received, i expected better service and communication. read more

I took my Hyundai Accent to Tameron Hyundai, left it there for two days and paid them over $200 to diagnose a bad transmission they wanted $4,500 to replace. I then took the car to Jack's Garage and let Sandy drive it down the road and back. He got out shaking his head and chuckling at the dealership's assessment. I didn't need a new transmission, just a new clutch. Jack's Garage did the repair for $1,200 in the same amount of time that the dealership took to run their "diagnostics" I paid $200 for. Now my car runs better than it has in a long time. I just wish I could have used the $200 I gave to Tameron and given it to Sandy's team to have them do the actual repair of the actual problem. I asked Jack's Garage to fix a fueling leak I had. When I would fill the tank all the way, gas would spill on the ground. They took the gas tank out and found that a rodent had chewed a vent/evap hose on top of the tank! The issue was fixed in one day. Sandy also mentioned that "Old Spice" soap chips would repel the rodents. I believe I got quality work done at a reasonable price in a timely manner. read more

I give them 10 stars out of 5! This is still the best shop in the state! After 27 years and all kinds of different car repair needs, I can undoubtedly say they are the best! I have heard horror stories of other shops from numerous people, which just confirms my statement. I would/will never go to a different shop, even if they're busy and can't get me in immediately, which is pretty rare, bc they are so efficient. Even if it's something they don't typically do, Sandy will tell you where the best place to take it is and usually knows the head person to talk to and even knows the phone number! I'm currently having transmission problems and he knew which place could repair and which ones will just tell you that it just has to be replaced. I trust them with all of my vehicle repair needs and even more! I am not related to anyone there, but they have always treated me like family! Pricing is always competitive; not always the cheapest, but never the highest, but the value is always the best! I went there a few months ago for a simple fuel filter change that took literally 5 minutes. I was thinking about $20 - $30. What other places quoted me but didn't have time to work me in. But they got to me right away. But for a 5 minutes job I got charged $60!! Thay may get to you fast but not worth the ripoff.. unless you have no choice, take your hard earned money somewhere else.. read more

I have used Jacks garage for 26 years now since Jack was there and Now that Sandy has bought it. It up sets me to read the negative reviews people leave. Like the one that cost a couple 60.00 to change a fuel filter. You should have went to the place you made up in your mind for 30.00 or 40.00 Why didn't you go there?? I ask instead of taking it to Jacks garage. Sir next check on the price of the filter. Before you act like you know mechanical work and labor prices. I will let you know a secret most mechanics (each one) has over 100,000.00 in tools to work on customers car along with many years of continuing education classes that cost thousand's of dollars each and every year. Shame on you. You got your car fixed for 60.00 Most people spend more then that on a dinner for 2 That is just B.S. To the girl that gave him a bad review if it was fine before your boy friend touch your car did ever think your boyfriend screwed your car up doing your breaks (I'm sure he is not a mechanic) My advice let a professional repair your car :) As a note to the public no one is perfect. Not sure why there are 1 star reviews for this place - I took my car here after I had a wreck right down the road. Told them what I thought was wrong with it and said I didn't care what my car looked like (fender was bent to heck) and just to fix the problem. They said sure no problem and said they would call, and I went off to my job. They finished the job in 4 hours. It was somewhat expensive, but I wasn't expecting my car back until 3 days later. I'll definitely go back when the check engine light comes on. read more

I recommend Jack's Garage highly for their repair work, honesty, great service to me and my car and to make me sure I walked away a very happy customer. They've never told me that I've needed something repaired (other repair shops said I did) and my car didn't need that repair because it was something else that was causing the problem (they saved me about 800.00$). They are backed up at times but are honest with you about when they can get to your car and how long to fix it. read more

Many years ago shortly after we moved here from California, I accidentally ran over a rather large rock in the middle of Hiway 31 between Valleydale and Lorna Rd. The rock punched a small hole in the crankcase allowing the engine oil to start leaking out. Being new to the area and not familiar with what repair shops existed, I drove until I spotted Jack's Radiator. I pulled in and as I remember, there was only one mechanic in the shop. He was working on another customer's vehicle but to my great surprise, he dropped what he was doing to address my problem. While I waited he drained the remaining oil from the crankcase, removed the oil pan, brazed the hole closed, remounted the oil pan and refilled it. I was on my way again thanks to this mechanic. Alas I don't remember the man's name but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Jack. Many years later I had to rent a trailer to transport a motorcycle to Minnesota. When the trailer dealer went to hitch the trailer, we discovered I had no brake lights and they will not allow a trailer leave their lot without brake lights. Once again I turned to Jack's because I knew I would get immediate help. Sure enough as soon as I pulled in and explained my problem to Jack, one of Jack's mechanics started investigating the problem. It turned out to be a bad brake light switch which had to be ordered from one of the local parts houses. In a matter of a few hours I was on my way to Minnesota with functioning brake lights. We've never even thought thought about taking our vehicles to any other shop. Jack is one of those amazing people who always remembers your name, even if it's been a year since he's seen you. His shop will attempt to repair your problem even when parts are no longer available or are prohibitively expensive. We had a seat adjustor lever break and the only solution was to replace the entire seat assembly. An example of "prohibitively expensive". Jack welded the broken lever and saved us a fortune. As you might guess, I can't praise Jack and his mechanics enough. I dread the day his shop closes as we will be lost in the woods without it. read more

Cody (tire center manager) said Jack's would replace the broken ones and check ALL the others on all my tires. Got to Jack's and they were nice enough. Told Larry the problem and again expressed they needed to check ALL the others. He said they would and when my car was done he said they had checked the others to make sure they'd break free. FAST FORWARD to yesterday evening. My fiancee went to change my brakes and rotors. Driver's side first, with the new lugs (not new/used ones they spray painted silver). Go to the passanger side to do brakes and rotors...NEVER checked!!! 2 more lugs broke off with a 3rd that would only tighten halfway. Now I'm stranded, no car, can't get anywhere or my flipping tire will be damaged or worse fall off. This is insane. I don't trust Jack's and will never take my car there again. Also, don't let Alabaster Wal-Mart rotate and balance your tires (or change your oil...they never tightened my oil filter with the last change and I'm lucky my engine didn't lock up).
