I came here after a lackluster, first visit to the Ripped Bodice. This experience made me not regret my book trip to Brooklyn. From the moment I walked in, the solo bookseller was the kindest human ever. She was genuine and authentically engaged with me, as I shopped the small store. She literally made the visit. I came in with a coffee, so I wasn't able to try the cafe part of their spot, but I want to come back to try it and many other reasons too. I appreciate that, despite having a smaller inventory, they are very selective and intentional about the authors they sell, which in turns means they support. Their merch is so dope! I have enough totes, but I HAD to snag one of theirs to commemorate my visit here! I left happier than when I arrived!

How do you discover a book without "opening" it . The woman was so rude , the book they sold didn't even have a barcode . I visited this Brooklyn Heights location of Books Are Magic this past weekend with some friends…read more I'd been to the shop's first location (Carroll Gardens) before - it opened in 2017, but I hadn't realized that this location opened in 2022! But we were wandering around and just came upon it. The store is a good size; you can definitely lose time exploring and browsing. It doesn't feel as tight as many independent bookstores can either. Founded by author Emma Straub, both Books Are Magic locations have some really wonderful touches: lots of recommendations by booksellers on the shelves, a large section of translated fiction, and merch for bibliophiles. I had to be dragged out - but not before I picked up a book that I hadn't seen on/in any tables, endcaps, pyramids in any other bookstore in the last few months. If you love to read, Books Are Magic is well worth a stop to browse and get inspired by a new read!

I am an average breeder and I would much rather purchase books from independence store and from online. The store is a nice space aesthetically. There is also a coffee bar which is a good plus. I feel the service is only fair. Sometimes, I have had helpful and friendly staff and at other times, I have felt either invisible. It's not a warm cozy bookstore.
