I was visiting Brooklyn and knew I wanted to come in for the Incardi mini print vending machine, but once I was there, I was just loving the vibes of the store. Everyone was so kind and there was a lot of things to browse! I am not even a physical book girlie but I really enjoyed the selection they had and if I lived in the area, I would be coming back often to continue to support. I visited this Brooklyn Heights location of Books Are Magic this past weekend with some friends. I'd been to the shop's first location (Carroll Gardens) before - it opened in 2017, but I hadn't realized that this location opened in 2022! But we were wandering around and just came upon it. The store is a good size; you can definitely lose time exploring and browsing. It doesn't feel as tight as many independent bookstores can either. Founded by author Emma Straub, both Books Are Magic locations have some really wonderful touches: lots of recommendations by booksellers on the shelves, a large section of translated fiction, and merch for bibliophiles. I had to be dragged out - but not before I picked up a book that I hadn't seen on/in any tables, endcaps, pyramids in any other bookstore in the last few months. If you love to read, Books Are Magic is well worth a stop to browse and get inspired by a new read! read more

Their selection of books is well curated and I always find something to come home with even if I was just intending to browse. I was already familiar with Books Are Magic's first location on Smith St, which was not only beautiful but also had an excellent selection of books. I'm pleased to report that the Brooklyn Heights location is just great, but cozier with their lower ceilings (and a reading garden in the back!) Independent bookstores are so so important to our communities and I hope people stop by and support this beautiful little gem on Montague St. There are always events going on at the store, from book signings to readings (sometimes at the nearby St Ann's Church a few blocks down). PS- BHA has been killing it with the Montague St revival recently. Big props to them for bringing in Books Are Magic! read more

I had the best experience at this bookstore. It is such a wonderful experience from the moment we walked in. The staff are amazing and so helpful. There are little cards near every book with reviews from those that have read them. The selection of books is great and the prices are great too. It's a must visit! read more

Even if you're more of a library book-borrowing person than a bookstore book-buying person, Books Are Magic has terrific author events worth the price of a new novel. Merely scrolling through the calendar of events gives me suggestions aplenty about future books to read and authors to check out. It's also convenient how they do free livestreams in case you can't make it to this Brooklyn Heights location; the original Books Are Magic is in Cobble Hill. At the event I recently attended, guests had to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination and wear masks though there was that obnoxious one guy who kept taking his off. The white plastic folding chairs maybe weren't the most comfy but it was only about an hour of sitting. The event flowed smoothly, and it helped that it wasn't too large of a group. Employees were nice. Easily accessible from Manhattan too! read more

Books really are magic, and so was stumbling across this amazing little shop in Brooklyn. This store was so cute and the vibe was everything. When I was wandering I had a couple books in hand. Then I turned and saw this one. "When Brooklyn was Queer" by Hugh Ryan (@hughoryan) spoke to me and I had to grab it immediately. Staff - the staff were so friendly and welcoming, and even offered some other great suggestions for future reads. Selection - There was a little bit for everyone, and I think if you check it out you definitely will find a book to adopt. I was especially thankful for the range of LGBTQ+ and diverse selections. Cost was pretty standard to most new and indie bookstores at list prices. Overall, this store gets an absolute 5s and will be on my return list when I return to NYC. read more

I love this location . I always go to the one on court street . But this was a nice change . I loved the way all the books are arranged and when we arrived the staff said hello and was very warm . I didn't get anything because you know I have books to read but I'll def be back. I noticed they had a lot of paperbacks which is nice because they are cheaper but just such good books and so many genres . I love books are magic . So glad there are now two of them read more

Love the book store but wow the cashier is SO rude. It was almost like a joke---just like the character from"Mean Girls." It totally killed the vibe and the high one gets from buying new books. I'll go to Amazon, no chance of a bad attitude there. If someone is mentally unwell or physically unwell or has a bitter personality, they should not be dealing with customers. (note this is the first time I have ever left a review that is not five stars. But it was upsetting to be treated in such a RUDE way, when I was so excited to get my books. What a let down!! :( read more
