Amazing customer service. I walked in randomly with my sister and her toddler on a Saturday afternoon and wanted a book. I walked right up to the register where an attendant was waiting. I asked her where I could find a book. She looked it up ordered it and took my info to pick up & pay when it arrives. You can NOT beat that. McNally Jackson Books, every book lover needs to visit this bookstore. It is lovely inside. The store has bookshelves to the tall ceilings, on stairs, in cozy nooks, a beautiful children's section and more. The books are priced appropriately. There is a wide variety & many sections. I walked through the entire bookstore. They have other items too such as: cards, stationery, markers and more. I asked a question about a book I wanted to purchase. For some reason the first few times I went in there I never thought to explore the upstairs section. It's huge! They really have a great book selection here. It's also a great location since it's in the same building as DeKalb Market Hall, Trader Joe's, and Target - also very close to Junior's (yum - cheesecake) and Lidl, the grocery store that has been opening new locations around the city. The store seems well laid-out - there isn't a ton of seating, but enough so that you can a seat on occasion if you want one. read more

Not a ton of thoughtful curation like Books Are Magic or other spots. There's two floors and a wide range of genres and texts for different audiences. Book lovers paradise with thoughtfully written reviews connected to a wide array of literature. I appreciated the extensive international authors in the back of the store. (Female Irish authors woo!) This is just an excellent bookstore. It's clean, well-stocked, and convenient - not just because it's close to me, but also because it's housed in the same building as Dekalb Market Hall (lots of good eats) and Trader Joe's and Target, so I can knock out a lot of different things at once. I have yet to go into this McNally Jackson outpost looking for a book they didn't have in stock, and I always have multiple titles catch my eye as well. The staff is unfailingly kind and cool, and they are even sweethearts when they kick you out at closing time. Drawbacks: There isn't much seating to chill, but that's probably because it's not a huge space, and it's filled to the brim with books. Also, the prices aren't amazing by any means, but I'd rather pay a slight markup and shop local than buy it on Amazon. read more

Hmmm when was the last time I read a book? A really good book? I believe I started Anne Patchett's "Commonwealth " last summer and didn't finish it.. which means I have to start over. Which I could at McNally Jackson bookstore... The CitiPoint location has this section with a long table to sit and thumb through books. There are cute cushioned seats in another section that I could easily thumb through Anne Patchett books, most of which I own and have read. The store reminds me of an elegant library with farmhouse tables holding precise stacks of booj But there is something very different about this store; it feels like your own library at home. They also have a nice selection of stationary, pens, mini note books, big notebooks and of course, books. This location has a nice staircase that leads to a Mezzanine that houses, Travel, Fiction, Business and a Bargain section which is tempting. I was actually looking for Street maps of Italy for an upcoming visit this September but they do not carry any. I'm surprised this store does not have a small cafe because drinking coffee and nestling into their numerous cozy corners and benches would hit the spot. McNally Jackson is an independently owned bookstore that is more than a bookstore. read more

Was always curious about this place- walk by, you'll see what I mean. They ALWAYS have such interesting looking books in the display of their store (ranging from novels, memoirs, kids' books... really, a lot of the covers really grab your eye!) I'm the sort of person who will gift books to your kids (sorry, no fun toys from me, kiddos) and McNally Jackson Books has become my go-to place. The children's section is up the stairs (it is a two level bookstore). Check out the huge variety books, ranging from classics (like my personal favorite "Each Peach Pear Plum") to the recent bestsellers. There is even a kid's corner where the kids can sit and read! Very cute. The bookstore gives me Ollivander vibes (IYKYK)- very welcoming atmosphere, and would be a fun place to browse and find some new books. read more

I honestly do not think there's a better bookstore in Brooklyn - and trust me, I've been to most of them. While I've generally considered Center for Fiction to be my favorite (and I still love it for those gorgeous ceiling high windows and the overall aesthetics), McNally Jackson has them all beat on selection. And let's talk about aesthetics - they're beautiful here. The entire place is full of chestnut brown bookshelves with a dreamy staircase and floor to ceiling books. It's absolutely huge - probably the biggest bookstore I've been to in Brooklyn and that brings me to selection. They have everything you could look for. Fiction. Bestsellers. Mystery. Horror. History and politics. Cooking. Economics. Health. Memoir. Any genre I could have imagined, not only have they got it, but they've got hundreds of options. They've even got a section with old and rare collectible books. Plus it truly has one of the best history book sections I've ever seen, arranged by era and region. Aside from shopping I spent at least 30 minutes just raking in what the store even had to offer. Seriously wonderful bookstore that I was beyond happy to discover today. read more

I was hanging out at the South Street Seaport, and I saw the bookstore. I really enjoy checking out small businesses and local bookstores. I noticed that they had a great selection of books to choose from. I ended up purchasing the book, "I'm Glad My Mom Died" by Jennette McCurdy. I heard that it was a very intense book and the woman behind the register told me that her friend read it, but that it wouldn't be too intense so I had taken her word for it. The book was around $30, which is a bit pricy, but considering it was a signed copy, the price made sense. I'm not the biggest Jennette McCurdy fan, but it was cool to have her signature to add to the collection and I do look forward to reading her book. This is a great shop, and I love the employees. They even have a bathroom for customers which is a bonus in my book. read more

First time here so it was not a shopping opportunity, but an exploration. This is a first impression review. A multilevel bookstore will always draw my attention. It has this inviting feel as you are surrounded by books at all different heights. The sections are plentiful. I was especially drawn to the graphic novel section, the "old" books section, crafts and cooking section. They do have an elevator towards the back. Since there are many books to see, best to go with a genre or book in mind to reduce chances of anxiety. read more

One of the best McNally Jackson outposts around, this Brooklyn location boasts literal floor to ceiling bookshelves and an incredibly robust selection of stationery. If you are a pen freak like me, you can go wild with their display though I have noticed that they stopped stocking affordable fountain pens since my last visit in 2021. The upstairs level has a really fun kids section with benches and seating specially designed for the young ones. read more

I stopped back in today to pick up a couple of books. I couldn't see the novel I was looking for so I asked the person behind the counter if their front display of bestsellers etc was all of their fiction. He was like nah go upstairs and be amazed so I was like cool and then I went upstairs and I was like dddaaaammnnnn. So I found both of the books I wanted, poetry is on the first floor by the way, and had a perfectly pleasant conversation with the same person who helped me find all the fiction. I liked this bookstore before, but now I kinda love it and am probably going to have to stop myself from coming too often. Oh and it's an independent bookstore, I didn't know, now I know! read more

Out of them all, this is the worst McNally Jackson in the city. Awful customer service and lacks the charm of the others. The selection is on point though, because it is a McNally Jackson. So, you'll find something here but it probably won't give you that loving feeling. If you're looking for a better experience, Greenlight isn't too far in one direction, and Books Are Magic isn't too far in the other direction. Both are far superior options. read more

I loved finding this McNally Jackson Books when I was in City Point for lunch at DeKalb Market Hall. I was walking out of City Point when I saw books well displayed in a tall window, turned, and walked straight in! It's larger than I was expecting it to be - a gorgeous staircase to the second story! I barely began to explore before I found the book I was looking for. It's well-stocked, beautiful, and was great to find in City Point. The City Point location is so aesthetically pleasing, especially with the floor-to-ceiling bookcase walls leading to the second floor. Aside from selling books, the ground floor has a section dedicated to stationery, such as pens, notebooks, and such. There are also a wide selection of greeting cards in the front. I was super excited to learn about this McNally Jackson in downtown Brooklyn so now I don't have to make the trek out into Manhattan to pick up my book orders. I usually frequent the Nolita location, and this one is not as big, however, it's another fantastic local and independent bookstore addition to the area. Bonus: this McNally is also located in the same mall complex as Trader Joe's and Dekalb Market Hall, so it's not a bad place to spend an afternoon and also run some errands (COVID-19 permitting). The grand opening for this store was in March 2020 and they reopened in September. read more

I noticed it while walking around City Point/Dekalb Market/Albee Sq. They have wall-to-wall books so if you're a bibliophile, you're in luck--even if you occasionally enjoy books, you would like McNally Jackson. The service was good--the staff was very helpful. Was not expecting this store to be so HUGE with such a nice selection of books. Everything is so well organized and the shelves are set up in a way that makes it seem like a maze, which I think adds to the wonder and adventure that comes with an independent bookstore. There are tables and comfy chairs abound if you happen to find a book you want to dive into. There are also tons of "staff picks" shelves around if you're feeling overwhelmed. But what I absolutely love most about this store is that there is so much focus on books from other regions of the world. I'd say half their upstairs section is dedicated to translated works and it's honestly so great to see. Only thing I'd hope to see more of these books actually in their native language :) read more

Store is lovely, well-stocked and well-furnished. Unfortunately, the service left much to be desired. I'm fine with not being greeted when entering even though the cashier wasn't busy assisting other customers at the register--she just looked at me. Upon checkout, the cashier (clerk #3 according to my receipt--a young woman with glasses and dark curly hair) remained cold and dismissive, and said no words. Not even "Goodnight" or "Thank you for coming." Perhaps it was a long day or long week, but I can't help but feel that this store--like others in this area--caters to the new demographic of patrons that frequent the rebranded City Point, and not the old demographic that used to frequent the original Albee Square Mall. We're just not welcomed. read more
