Stopped at unnamable books after a coffee date with one of my girlfriends. Books were categorized by genres but as I was looking I noticed certain books didn't belong where they were placed. As I was purchasing my books the cashiers vibes were extremely off and unfriendly. He did not greet me just asked card or cash and just handed me the POS when I said card. When my friend went to purchase her books he was far more kinder to her and her bf. I love going to independent book stores but will not be returning to this one.

When we found out there was an independent bookstore in the area we headed on over to see what treasures we could find. Outside they had books on sale for GREAT prices, my daughter picked up a couple and then we headed inside. After much leisurely browsing we paid for our 5 books (I know... I can't help myself, books are my drug) at really great prices. There is nothing that warms my heart more than this type of small business. I plan on visiting every time I go to see my kids in Brooklyn.

Cozy bookstore near the dispensary I frequent. Kind of disorganized but I do like the indie graphic novels. I'll be back again soon.

The owner is rude and could care less how she speaks to customers. I can spend my money elsewhere, thanks.

Everyone was so kind and there was a lot of things to browse! I am not even a physical book girlie but I really enjoyed the selection they had and if I lived in the area, I would be coming back often to continue to support. It was a short walk from the Brooklyn Bridge and allowed me to explore more of the area, which was a huge plus for me!

I visited this Brooklyn Heights location of Books Are Magic this past weekend with some friends…read more I'd been to the shop's first location (Carroll Gardens) before - it opened in 2017, but I hadn't realized that this location opened in 2022! But we were wandering around and just came upon it. The store is a good size; you can definitely lose time exploring and browsing. It doesn't feel as tight as many independent bookstores can either. Founded by author Emma Straub, both Books Are Magic locations have some really wonderful touches: lots of recommendations by booksellers on the shelves, a large section of translated fiction, and merch for bibliophiles. I had to be dragged out - but not before I picked up a book that I hadn't seen on/in any tables, endcaps, pyramids in any other bookstore in the last few months. If you love to read, Books Are Magic is well worth a stop to browse and get inspired by a new read!

When the other store didn't carry it (disappointing), I knew I would find it at Community Bookstore. They carry an excellent selection of new fiction, harder to find fiction, classics and everything In between. If you can't find what you are looking for, they will happily order the books for you for pick up and even delivery. They have an amazing author events which, I really enjoy. I always love visiting independent bookstores, and Community Bookstore was such a nice experience…read more The staff was incredibly friendly and sweet. We even ended up chatting about the latest season of the Bear, which made the visit feel really welcoming and personal. I actually walked out with a physical book, which is rare for me since I typically use the app Libby to read. I ended up picking up Yesteryear and the waitlist for this book on Libby is MONTHS. So I was happy to finally have a copy in my hands instead of waiting. The store has a cozy neighborhood feel, and it looks like they also have a little outdoor space, though I didn't get a chance to check it out. Definitely a great spot to support an independent bookstore and browse for your next read.
