I was in town for a convention and ventured out into the heat for a local restaurant with character. I was very much rewarded. The moment I stepped in I took in the various signage, memorabilia, and color of the interior. The employees greeted me warmly and guided me through the menu. To note, it is a very simple menu, but what they do they do right. I don't generally like chili but decided to go with the authentic signature dish. They gave me the chili on the side.
The star item is the Coney Island hot dog. They are small and you can order them in a set of various quantities. I had three, all with cheese. They were great, tasty and every aspect of high quality and freshness. For the most part I had the chili as a side dish, and I enjoyed that as well. The soda was perfectly carbonated.
Much of the restaurant is themed towards music, but there's a lot of interesting other things to look at. What I appreciated most was the friendliness of the staff. Just genuine kindness. Interestingly, they are open only three hours a day. Yet supposedly in that chunk of time they get enough business to last a whole day.
Sure, it's ultimately just a hot dog place. But it's a memorable meal that's also very affordable, making it quite the winner. read more
