Tello's is one of my two favorite restaurants. Every once in a while, Dan says we're in a rut, so we try a different Mexican restaurant and wish we had gone to Tello's. A lot of Mexican restaurants seem to scream at you through their decor and music, "You're in a Mexican Restaurant!" Tello's is classy, no flashy. The music they play is Mexican, but it's classy and pleasant to listen to. The same with their decor. It is nicely decorated with good quality Mexican art. The food and drinks are also good quality. Their house Margarita is $6.50 and it's a decent Margarita. If a dish doesn't have enough spice, just ask for their green salsa. I think it's homemade. We always ask for it when we get our chips and salsa. Their regular salsa is good, but the green sauce makes it even better. We also sprinkle it on our entrees. I ordered the Lunch Chimichanga with shredded beef. It came quickly and was crispy and delicious. I should have asked for another type of sauce, non-creamy, but that's my fault. The queso made the chimi saltier than I'm used to. The guac salad and beans, cut the saltiness a lot. The beef in the chimi was well seasoned, not bland, and was tender. The chips that came before the meal were warm, crispy, and thin. They cracked down to dipping size quickly. Since it was lunchtime, my service was great, of course. The drinks and food were served quickly. My request for more salsa came right away. I really liked the inside of Tello's. I liked that they had the World Cup on the sports TVs. I liked that the mood music was all in Spanish, and lively. All in all, I had a nice quiet delicious lunch in a lovely little local Mexican restaurant. read more

Took my oldest to lunch last week, and since she's in the 51st and Lewis area, we tried out Tello's Mexican Grill at 58th and Lewis. TLDR: Friendly folks, great food and reasonable prices. Turned out I had my oldest and youngest for lunch, so we had an assortment. We arrived right at noon and were seated immediately. Drinks were ordered along with queso while the usual chips and salsa made their way to the table. The oldest went with the Speedy Gonzalez plate, which looked quite good. The youngest went with (surprise surprise) a taco salad. Once I saw they had chile verde on the menu, my mind was made up. Orders were placed and we thoroughly enjoyed the queso, chips and salsa while we briefly waited for our entree. I didn't taste the daughters' dishes, but I they did enjoy them greatly. As for mine, it was easily one of the top 3 chile verdes I've had in town. Plenty of slow cooked, succulent pork in a properly done verde sauce. Beans and rice were also well executed. Service was outstanding, with everything being taken care of almost invisibly. I'd dined here back when it was Arizona Cafe, but I'm not sure if the menu/staff were new or the same, it's been that long. In any case, Tello's has it going on. Great food, great service and prices that don't break the bank at all. Lunch for three was under $40, and that's great for what we got. To start with, the space inside is nice. Spacious. Everyone was friendly from the moment we walked in. Our chips and salsa were delivered promptly. We ordered the $3 house margarita. It was really good. It wasn't overloaded with sweet and sour that makes it look like glow in the dark acid from the sewer. Nothing special about the chip but the salsa was good. Had a nice flavor was just a hint of heat. The pork in the chili verde was tender and not fatty. Great flavor to the salsa verde. Tacos de carnitas came with cilantro and onions. Now I like onions but there was a bit too many. They overpowered the pork. Beans and rice were ok. Nothing to write home about. And oh, queso. Very good. We love meeting up at Tello's with cousins and friends. We were introduced to the spot about a year ago and it's never been a disappointment. I have tried almost every margarita on the menu and this time I tried the coronarita for the second time. It is TASTY. Just might be my themed drink for the summer festivities honestly. The service was fairly quick this visit and they usually get orders correct so they get a good grade in my book. The atmosphere is cool, not too loud and pretty spacious. As much as we go it has never just been packed to the brim where we've had to wait a long time. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at Tello's! I had their house Frozen margarita, which was perfect! My husband had a Modelo on draft and we shared a small order of queso to start along with the complimentary chips and salsa. The entrees were taco salad with shredded chicken for me and the quesabirria tacos for the hubs. Everything was wonderful! And the service was great. It torques me when a new restaurant opens and the reviews from the old restaurant are not removed. As is the case for Tello's Mexican Grill. The overall rating shown here is the cumulative result of Arizona Mexican restaurant and Tello's. As best as I can tell only reviews after August of 2022 are really representative of Tello's the new owner. I asked the waiter about the change to the business. He claims that basically everything is the same, only the owners, the name and the interior of the restaurant have changed. Same cooks, same waiters and same menu. I can't validate that. Those of you that were fans of Arizona can corroborate or contradict the waiter's assertion regarding the food. The last time I dined here was 2018. In looking at my old review, the waiter may be correct. I don't think much has changed; sauces, salsas, food quality or service. The restaurant serves up good food, good portions and has good service. Being subjective, but offering my perspective may help you understanding my 3 rating. My rating is based on my preference for spicey Mexican food. Tello's food from the salsa to the beef on the tacos and the sauces are very mildly seasoned, if at all. The salsa is mostly tomato with oregano and a possible hint of garlic. The salsa picante has some bite, but it too lacks flavor. This carries over to the sauces used on the enchiladas; mild tomato base, very little seasoning vs. my preference, a sauce made almost exclusively of Mexican peppers. Wrapping this up..... The food is good; however, it is a version of authentic Mexican food that is mild. If that is your preference, this may be a good place for you to try. For me, I need heat, garlic, peppers, onion, cilantro, cumin and chili powder...and lots of it! OkieMex. A little habanero never hurts either. Well, not until the next day. read more

A few of my friends and I met at Tello's for a late lunch and chat session. It was perfect. We did not feel rushed to order our food, so we enjoyed our appetizers and drinks. We were seated a distance away from other patrons, so we didn't disturb them, and they didn't disturb us. When we were ready to order our food, it arrived in a timely manner, fresh and hot! They weren't too busy, so we were able to leisurely enjoy our meals and the table was cleared when we were finished eating. My mom brought my boys and I here for lunch one day and i was truly impressed! Their guacamole was out of this world fresh and delicious! Nothing was too spicy or soggy in it what so ever. The chips and salsa was complimentary and was very tasty. They weren't overly salted. Everything was so authentic which is so hard to find in Oklahoma. So much Tex mex not enough authentic Mexican food. They just got their liquor license and had a bar i noticed if it wasn't lunch I'd be ordering a margarita to give those a try also! The lunch portions were very large and very affordable!! I got the shredded chicken lunch tacos and was very full afterwards. Quite possibly the biggest disappointment dining in Tulsa that I have ever had. This restaurant is located in the old Arizona's location which was a bummer from the get go. The menu was the same as the old arizonas and I even recognized some of the staff and so I was very excited upon walking in. (I use to live in Tulsa until 4yrs ago and lived off of Atlanta and Harvard-very close to Arizonas and ate here religiously. And I understand this restaurant has the same owners, some of the same staff, etc. basically just reopened with a new name) We ordered a margarita to start and queso. Now, if you're a queso lover- this is your jam. Started off well, right?! Then immediately down hill. Margarita was watered down and absolutely no zing so tingle no sour no nothing! Actually returned it and requested a different drink, again, same song. I ordered the casa special steak and it was decent but absolutely not the best. My husband had carnitas and they were completely flavorless and I believe they had been boiled to cook. Just nasty. Everything needed salt from the queso to the salsa to our entrees. I get that people are sensitive to sodium and restaurants tiptoe now but good lord. No seasoning at all. After receiving our main entree, we never saw our server again. No water refill, no check to see if food was good, nothing. We had to flag him down to get our check. read more

Had another excellent fun meal with 10 members of my family and celebrating my son-in-law's 65th birthday and retirement from the oil industry. He and my daughter introduced us to the old TELLO's , Arizona's, back in the 80's. We saw the new owner Morris's kids grow up in the years to follow. Even though my son-in-law law and daughter moved to San Antonio when Citgo moved to Houston, they continued to follow Arizona's/Tello as they moved to their current location. Any time we have family gatherings for anniversaries, birthdays, or just want some good Mexican food we always meet at TELLO's.. We love the staff as well as the owner and the food. We also love the margherita selection as they have about 20 on their new menu. My favorite dish is the Angelica Special and my wife loves the big bowl of guycumoila salad. read more

Morris P, aka Tello, long term manager in the Mexican Restaurant scene has taken the location to put his spin on Mexican food and hospitality. Start off with their delicious White Queso and hot tortilla chips. I ordered the Casa Especial, made with two flour tortillas, fajita meat, and fresh house made Pico de Gallo. Fried and covered with the excellent white queso, along with sides of Mexican rice, salad and refried beans. I prefer to substitute Rancho beans for refried as no refried beans from anywhere are favored with my pallet. At any rate my order, along with the other 10 family members hit the table hot, and tasty all about the same time! The Marguritas are rated by my family as some of the best anywhere, on the rocks or frozen. Other facility improvements are an enlarged bar, improved larger restrooms, men and women. This is actually a place my dad suggested for us to go to... I guess he had come here with a group of friends many years ago. It was in a really cool area! I'm not sure but it think it was called something like London Square? It definitely looked very English, so it was fun. An interesting location for a Mexican place I guess, but there it was! The inside could probably use a bit of a remodel. It just looks a little bit run down, especially right when you walk in. The rest of the restaurant once you get past the small front area is pretty normal, though it could probably go for a bit of a spruce up as well. It wasn't annoying though. It's definitely a casual place. I was actually surprised that there were several other groups of people there, so I always see that as a pretty good sign! We were seated and taken care of quickly. I liked the salsa, but it was pretty much the same salsa that's at most Mexican places. For my meal I ordered the chicken fajitas. They came will all of the normal fixings: rice, beans, lettuce, pick de Gallo, guac, sour cream, and tortillas. I chose the corn tortillas like I almost always do, but my mom's meal came with tortillas too and we traded one tortilla to each other, so I was able to try the flour too. Both were good, nothing too crazy to say about them other than that! The fajitas were yummy too. The portion was still large but it didn't feel as overwhelming as it sometimes does when I order fajitas. The chicken was juicy, in nice sized slices, and the seasoning made it very flavorful. There were also cooked bell peppers and onions with the chicken. I especially like the onions. They had an extra crispness that I really loved. My only small complaint is that we sat by a window and I actually got really cold while we were waiting for our food. I was so happy when our food was delivered because it warmed me up. I literally just held onto my tortillas wrapped in tinfoil for a while until I got warm enough haha. So... the upside is that thank goodness the food was nice and hot!!! We love to order Mexican food from Tello's. The food is delicious and plentiful. They don't deliver because it's a burden for small local businesses but it's always ready by the time we arrive. You can find the menu online and when you call and pickup the staff is friendly and responsive. BTW The restaurant itself is clean and cozy if you decide to eat there. read more

I admit that I was unfair in rating this place two stars based on Yelp alone without ever actually eating here. I finally tried it and had to lower the rating to one star. Why did they name it Arizona? I lived in AZ for four years and just got back from two and a half weeks there last month. There is absolutely nothing about the food here that even remotely resembles the food in Arizona. Do a Google search for Sonoran Mexican food and look at the pictures. It's not even close. It looks and tastes completely different. It would be more realistic to name this place Mississippi Mexican Restaurant. In Arizona the enchiladas are topped with either red or green chile similarly to those in New Mexico. In Arizona the food is made with good cheese and not something like white Velveeta. And in Arizona nobody is going to pour tomato sauce over a burrito or a chile relleno. Notice the pictures below. This is actual Mexican food from Arizona. You will not see food like this in this restaurant. This is the type of good Mexican food that I would--and did--eat nearly every day. The tacos are normally made with shredded beef or chicken, not ground hamburger beef. The taco shells are not pre-made and perfectly shaped in Arizona, but rather each taco shell has its own unique shape because the tacos are made fresh to order with a corn tortilla folded over the meat filling and then grilled until the shell is crispy. read more

Very disappointed here. Arizona's went out of business and Tello's filled the space. We were hoping for something new and tasty. We went and were happy when we walked in and saw a nice new atmosphere. Our waiter came and we recognized him from Arizona's. We asked him how the food was and he said 'it's great, all the same staff, same food and same cook as before'. Talk about immediate disappointment. If Arizona couldn't make it work, how does Tello's think doing the same think will yield a different result? Food isn't bad, but it is very bland. Waited until Tello's got their liquor license to go for lunch at 11:00 the following day. Beautiful job of remodeling the old Arizona's. Nice fire in the fireplace. We got a nice table facing the fireplace. Place is nicely decorated with pleasant music in the background. Immediately brought chips and salsa which had a very little bite. Chips were thin and good. Waiter did not introduce himself. No waters brought out. Many items on the menu including lunch specials. We started with a small Guacamole dip ($5.25) which was actually pretty large. I got a Dos Equis Amber in a frosted glass. My wife had an iced tea ($2.99) which she said was very good. She ordered the Lunch Tacos (chicken) which came with 2 tacos, rice and beans ($9.25). I got the Huevos Rancheros with rice and refried beans ($8.25). I really wanted the Ranchero Beans which is an option on the menu but was advised they weren't currently available. The refried beans were good. We were checked on in a timely manner and the waiter was very cordial. It was a solid 4 star experience. I deleted a star in part because staff should introduce themselves and waters should be provided especially with alcohol (I could have asked for water, but didn't). The last issue was I paid with a credit card and did not receive back the receipt which shows what we had so I don't really know how much the beer was. Small issues but worth mentioning. The suggested tips on the receipt were appropriately based on the amount before taxes. Our check (including two beers) came to $39.52. I tipped him $20 for his service despite the minor gliches. Once called, Arizona, the now completely remodeled restaurant has a new name, Tello's. I've ordered to-go twice last week. The lady was very helpful taking my order since I was unfamiliar with the menu. The chips are thin and light. The salsa was not good at all. It tasted like tomato sauce. Night ask for another salsa like I did for my second order. It had flavor but no heat. The chicken enchiladas are delicious and the tamales. Will require more meals to suggest anything else. I do like the atmosphere. It's peaceful, calm, and not cluttered. I didn't sit long waiting for my to-go's. I was out the door within 5 minutes. read more

I cried when my mom went by the restaurant to pickup food for dinner, she said there was a sign on the door saying closed. You see that was the place we went to celebrate as a family. So for those of you who are not aware Morris was the manager for Arizona restaurant that is why the old reviews are still up for Arizona the only difference is that it's his restaurant now. As long as Morris is running the show now like he always has I have no doubt it will be better & even more delicious. I'm so thrilled to have it back open again. Chris and I have been coming here for YEARS. It was Arizona's and then Tello's but the food is STILL THE SAME, THANK YOU MORRIS! Thanks to all the people who have loved Arizona's who made it possible to reopen this amazing Mexican restaurant. We take out once a week. Their Queso is the best and so are the Poblano Peppers stuffed with Chicken. I prefer cilantro being from Texas. I think they put Oregano in the salsa instead of Cilantro.
