So we made our pilgrimage to the Jack Daniel's Distillery in the charming (and paradoxical) Lynchburg--aka the driest county where the wettest things happen. First of all, fun fact: you can't legally buy a drink here, but you can buy a commemorative bottle of liquor... and they just happen to pour some "free samples" inside. Nothing suspicious--just a bottle-shaped souvenir with benefits. It was pouring rain when we arrived, but honestly, it set the mood: dark, dramatic, and slightly damp--just like a good whiskey barrel. We took the "Innovation Tasting Tour," which is basically history class with a buzz. You learn everything from the charcoal mellowing process to the saga of Mr. Jack's mysteriously lethal toe injury (true story, Google it). Then came the tasting: we sampled several experimental Jack Daniels varieties that may never see the shelves but definitely saw my liver. The staff? Delightful. Southern hospitality with a side of science. They clearly love what they do, and I now know more about whiskey than I ever knew about algebra. We came here for the tour. They do take walk-ins based on availability. When we arrived, the next available tour was about an hour later. We decided to get one two hours later and, in the meantime, headed to another distillery nearby and also grabbed some lunch near by. The tour is about 90 minutes long, including tasting. Our tour guide was amazing and kept the tour engaging. At no point did it feel boring. The distillery is pretty amazing, and the tour is a good way to learn about its history and also the nuances of whiskey making.  As for the tasting, you get to try 6 different types of Jack Daniel's blend. I am not much of a whiskey person but did enjoy a couple of blends and thoroughly enjoyed the entire tour. If you are in the area, this is a must visit. read more

We did the ADA accessibility tour. It was nice that there was an alternative to provide something for its other visitors however I do believe there is room for constructive improvement. They offered flatter walkways and a vehicle to cut down on walking some of the grounds. No stairs in this tour so you do miss out on quiet a bit or almost all of the inside tour which is a bummer. Understandable because it is not accessible, however it would be nice if they could provide a viewing area to show some of what one might see in the walking tour in a video accessible area as the ADA tour is a much shorter duration than the regular walking/stairs tour. Id love to see JD be and provide more accessibility to its other patrons and I think a video tour might be a great addition. read more

JD Distillery is about a 1.5 hr drive from Nashville. We decided to visit as part of a tour from Viator. Bus ride was comfortable (cushy seats & air conditioned). Note: if you're on a bus tour, be sure to meet your bus at the departure time to head back to Nashville. There is no direct Uber/Lyft services, but there is a local guy who will charge you $350 to drive you back! Pretty cool tour that talks about the history and how they make JD whiskey from start to finish. It lasts about 2 hrs - wear comfortable walking shoes as it is about a mile or more (walking up/downhill and up/downstairs) in total. At the end of the tour, we got to taste (5) different JD varieties (my favorite was the blackberry which was sold out in the gift shop). Visit the small town (5 min walk over the bridge that connect the distillery to the town) to grab a bite to eat (high recommend Miss Mary Bobo's restaurant- make a reservation in advance!) and check out the cute little shops (as if you went back in time to Mayberry!)! read more

As someone who does not personally drink, I can not speak on the behalf of the whiskey tasting, but this place is definitely worth the visit! I came with some family and did the tour, we had a wonderful tour guide named Christy and she explained everything so well! Our entire party enjoyed the tour, they did enjoy the tastings, and enjoyed learning the history of the JD distillery! This place is beautiful, picturesque, very well kept and clean, has friendly staff, and this is an awesome place to visit! This is definitely an adult tour type of place, would not recommend bringing young ones on the tour, but the grounds itself is child friendly overall. Love this tour! Long walk and there are stairs that cannot be avoided. I do not recommend this for people that have walking disability. It was entertaining, informative and nice to know what I was drinking & how it was made. Everyone should do this.. especially if you want to know what is going into your body. We also started our tour with $10 JD & Coke which is amazing because we are in a dry county (meaning no booze, honky tonks, etc.). I've had a more enjoyable experience at other places. The tour is long but there truly wasn't that much information or things to see. I am also wondering how the popularity of uncle nearest is affecting what Jack Daniels produces. The cave was cool though, the tasting was okay given that is is a small dry town but it almost would be better weaved through out instead of at the end. Also I was expecting a little more branding throughout. More places with Jack Daniels on the wall. Again the services of Casey and the staff were great but it just seems like there was an opportunity to do more. It also feels like it was a gimmick to get people to go into town and spend money. Jack Daniel Distillery is about 30 minutes from Uncle Nearest. Plan accordingly if visiting both. The history of these two well-known distilleries is amazing! Fawn Weaver did a great job bringing to light relationship between Jasper Jack Daniel and Nathan Nearest Green. The visitor parking is free and across the street. Leave yourself time to park and walk across the road to check in. There is no crosswalk, so be careful. Short walk, but it was hot this weekend. Lol! Check-in was simple. We were offered slushie options at check-in. $10 each for Jack with coke or lemonade. 95% of our tour group bought one. Our tour guide was great. She shared so much great info. I would definitely recommend her to anyone visiting. Our tour was late, so we rushed at the end, so book an early tour. They did take photos at the beginning for you to buy at the end. If you have some time, seriously consider the Day at Jack tour. An all-day, immersive experience into the town of Lynchburg, its history and, of course, an in-depth look at the operation of the Jack Daniel's distillery. My wife and I just finished this tour and would recommend it without hesitation. Our day started at 10:35, when we met our tour guide, Justin, and the small group we'd be spending the day with. After a brief introduction and a quick photo, we boarded a shuttle bus and got a quick look at some historical Lynchburg landmarks. Then we enjoyed lunch at Miss Mary Bobo's Restaurant. It was family-style, southern fare, and simply outstanding. We walked through town to the distillery and enjoyed a fun, fascinating, super informative tour of how Jack is made, stored, bottled, the whole thing. This tour is the one opportunity for visitors to see the inside of one of the barrel storage facilities. The day ended with a tasting session, where we explored some of the finer points of a selection of Jack Daniel's whiskeys and their individual qualities and personalities. Plus everyone received a gift bag with a framed version of the photo taken earlier in the day, some chocolates, and a bottle of Miss Mary Bobo's Hot Sauce (which I had earlier on fried Okra and it was tremendous!). It was nearly 4 p.m. by the time we were done. So I meant when I said "if you have some time." And it costs a little more. But worth every penny and every minute of time. A very unique and fun experience! While on a solo vacation to Nashville, I found a day trip to the Jack Daniel Distillery via Viator. We left from downtown Nashville and embarked on an hour and a half drive to Lynchburg where the distillery is located. Upon arriving, we were offered our tickets for the 'Angel Share' tour and then we waited in the main lobby. The main lobby was a great start as you get a chance to see historical artifacts and information about the Jack Daniel brand. There is also a display detailing the distillery process. Within a few minutes, our tour guide was ready for our group. We lined up and the magic began. Our tour guide took us on an in-depth tour of the grounds and discussed the story of Jack Daniel himself, the history of the brand, and the process of the whiskey. Regretfully, I forgot my tour guide's name, but he was absolutely wonderful! He made the tour enjoyable and interactive from beginning to end. Among my favorite parts, I loved learning about the spring water which the whiskey is made from. Secondly, I loved that they pay homage to Nearest Green (as well as his descendants), the former slave who taught Jack how to distill. After touring the facility, we ended off with a tasting of 5 of their popular varieties. Even if you are not a whiskey drinker, do not pass this up. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot about their brand. In addition to the insight noted, below are some general pros and cons about the tour: Pros: 1. The tour is very in-depth (about an hour and a half) and the premises are immaculate. Not only was everything immaculate but the flow of the tour was well-organized. 2. As a solo traveler, I enjoy any opportunity to take a photo or have my photo taken. The tour offered free photo ops as well as an opportunity to have your pic taken by a photographer. The latter was printed and ready for pick up at the end. I purchased 2 printed copies which included a branded frame and digital copies, for $33 - It is a great souvenir! 2. Prior to starting the tour, you can make an advance purchase for 'Jack & Coke' slushies. I did not partake, but the truck in which it is served from was pretty cool. 3. There is a gift shop on the premises, where you can purchase any of their branded varieties. Some I had never even heard of, were present. There is also a gift shop in the town of Lynchburg with a greater selection of items. 4. In terms of payment, the day trip I took was $140 and included round-trip transportation. For me, it was a great deal. I had plenty of time to see the distillery and then venture out into the town of Lynchburg. I can't say if driving on your own would be beneficial, but I hate driving if I don't have to; so for me, this was ideal. Cons: 1. If you have difficulty walking long distances and/or climbing stairs, this may not be for you. I consider myself physically fit however, I attended the tour during a heat wave. It was super hot and we walked a variety of terrain as well indoor and outdoor stairwells. Bring water! Overall, it was a fantastic tour! Absolutely top-notch, from the staff to the experience. I would definitely return. If you will be in the area, I highly recommend checking it out. It's ideal for couples, solo travelers, and adult family groups. They do offer tours for patrons younger than 21, but no alcohol included. This might also be great for a calm bachelor/bachelorette outing. read more

The tour was informative and loved learning more about Jack (the man and the whiskey) as well as touring the historic grounds; the cave was our favorite part of the tour and it was very nice to have a cooldown on a hot TN day. This review is a long time coming........A few years ago........Well many years ago, three friends took a weekend trip to the nashville area and decided to schedule a tasting tour at Jack Daniel's.....Let be honest, this was the purpose of the trip.....The tour was amazing......You learned the process of making whiskey the Jack Daniel's way from start to finish.....Did I mention, at the time, Jack Daniel's was about 98% green? Amazing........We toured the entire facility. This included where charcaoal is made to filter the bourbon, to where the finished product is barreled and stored. All materials used in the process was used, recycled and reused. The fact that a operation this size had minimized waste was astounding. The property is an old plantation surrounded by farmland....The tour guide mentioned that the used wheat and barley to make the whiskey was sold to neighboring farmers for feed for their cows......Jack Daniel cows.......Jack Daniel live on the property and his house was a museum........Also, there is a small downtown or uptown section of the property where you can buy keepsakes and souvenirs. This is where you get your pictures, possibly grab a bite to eat or socialize. We bought a few keepsakes and took pictures. This was a tasting tour, so let get to the tasting..........We sampled 5 whiskeys and was able to purchase hard to find editions on site. I loved the commentary about each individual whiskey and the history of the brand, as well as, the social atmsophere of the tasting. It's done at the end of the tour obviously and because it's a "dry county" you are only able to taste a limited amount......Very limited.......Crazy fun fact.....by tgeWell worth the price of admission. read more

I along with my wife took the "Flight of Jack Daniel's tour" during labor day weekend last year and we have become fans of this place. I say this as a tee-totaler that this place should be a must visit on your list if you are ever visiting Nashville. Here is the summary of our visit there: -- Location: This place is about 3.5 hours from Atlanta and 1.5 hours from Nashville. The funny part is that the distillery is part of a dry county where drinking in not allowed *wink*wink* -- Tickets: While we did the flight of Jack Daniels tour which is 1.5 hours long, there are many others available which are both with and without wine tasting. We had 6 different wine tasting - only a sip of their finest world famous whiskey. Booking in advance is a must --- Tour: The tour was amazing as so was out tour guide. I forgot her name but she made sure to answer all the questions, explain the process with her wit and jokes all the time. --- Value for Money: An absolute banger of a money. We paid $30 for the tour and it was totally worth it. Since the visitor, I have become their unofficial promoter and I promote the place to all my friends. We finally visited the distillery. You can start out your tour with a Jack and Coke or Jack and Lemonade freeze. I got the lemonade, my husband got the coke. They were both really good but didn't seem like there was much jack in them. It was a really good tour. I liked seeing the charcoal process which distinguishes TN whiskey from Bourbon. We did the Angel Share tour which included the more expensive whiskeys. I wish you got a little more in each tasting cup but TN liquor laws are antiquated (I say this as a TN resident). Highly recommend doing this tour in addition to the Uncle Nearest tour. You get a whole picture of TN whiskey! We also visited Mary Bobo's (similar to Monells in Nashville). If you can't get a reservation, get take out and eat on the patio. Good for people watching. We did not feel comfortable in the town square so we didn't get out there. read more
