Situated on a beautiful homestead, we walked in and met Mark, the owner and life-long resident of the property. He was engaging and gracious, allowing us to sample his wines. His selections vary from grape based wine, to Muscadine wines and ciders. We lingered and sipped a couple of glasses of his dry red wine and "Sammygria" with Mark during a strong thunderstorm, which made the visit even more memorable.

Perched atop a gorgeous hillside vineyard sprinkled with picnic tables and a lovely small stage for concerts, the scenery was breathtaking, peaceful, and absolutely amazing--even under an overcast sky after narrowly missing the rain. The hospitality matched the views, with a warm and friendly staff that made our personal tasting--shared alongside a lovely couple visiting from England--truly special. We explored the tasting options among three of us: Red Flight: Chosen by my father. White Flights: Enjoyed by both my sister and me. Sweet Selection: An alternative flight offering a mix of red and white options. Wine is wonderfully personal, and while I appreciated their selection overall, the whiskey-barrel-aged wines weren't quite to my taste, as I generally prefer wines aged in oak or stainless steel (especially whites). A Helpful Tip for Visitors: While there are handicap parking spaces, we found the walk up to the tasting room a bit challenging for our mother due to back issues. We later discovered a couple of parking spaces closer to the entrance, as well as a staircase. Thankfully, we were able to drive up the hill to pick her up afterward, sparing her the walk back down! After our tasting, we relaxed outside with a picnic lunch we brought ourselves. All in all, I truly enjoyed our visit and would love to return for one of their concerts. A few things would have been helpful to know as first-time visitors. There is no indoor seating, and parking is quite a distance from the main area where you purchase wine. When purchasing a bottle, we were surprised that wine glasses were not provided--only plastic cups. For a vineyard experience, especially at such a beautiful property, drinking wine from a plastic cup definitely took away from the experience. The staff also seemed somewhat annoyed that we weren't already familiar with the layout and how everything worked. Rather than feeling welcomed and having the process explained to us, we felt like we were inconveniencing them by asking questions. Throughout our visit, we also had the uncomfortable feeling that we were being watched or followed, which made it difficult to fully relax and enjoy ourselves. Another issue was the accommodations for families. Arrington states that children and guests under 21 are welcome, but the setup doesn't seem to reflect that. The only restroom we could find was located on the upper deck, which is designated as a 21+ area. If guests under 21 are welcomed onto the property, basic amenities like restroom access should be easily available to them without having to enter an age-restricted area. On the positive side, the grounds are gorgeous, the bottle prices were very reasonable, and we genuinely enjoyed the wines we tried. None of the wines were disappointing, and the wine itself was probably the best part of our visit. Arrington has a beautiful property and good wine, but the overall guest experience--particularly for first-time visitors and families--could be much more welcoming and accommodating.

But take your time and sample as many times as you can before you decide! They allow additional sampling free of charge. I did want them to talk more about the background of the founders and each wine which wasn't done until I asked a lot of questions but the questions were answered thoroughly and without hesitation. Even found out the owner was a older black male. So I supported a black owned business without even knowing lol. We lucked up and were able to get a picnic table and a nice socially distant grassy area for our blanket. Since you're allowed to bring food and drink this amenity allowed us to set up pretty easy. I gave myself a tour of the vineyard down a small dirt road next to it...nothing to wow about but it's a cute and romantic stroll and good for selfies. Make sure you bring bug repellent...the mosquitos love wine in the blood! Overall great experience. Great venue, music and customer service. Next time I'm in town I'll visit again.

Jack Daniels was the first destination on our trip. As soon as we got off the plane we got food,…read morecoffee, and then got on our way to meet Jack. His distillery is about an hour and a half from Nashville. Once you're out of the city, it's a beautiful drive, but there is not much between the two. Except of course, Uncle Nearest. We'll get back to that in another review. I don't know what I was expecting, but this place definitely exceeded my expectations. They have a pretty largely laid out property. We parked across the street and a lot and had to walk over and bus back. Walking in. We were slightly early for the next tour time, so we went to there establishment aptly named Happy Hour, and pre-gamed. One thing you can learn in the lobby is that Jack Daniels was not a tall man. In fact, he was quite short, though it would seem that his presence exceeded his physical height greatly. The tour started us on a bus driving us to the top of a hill close to one of their warehouses and we walked our way down to see parts of the property before we got into some more buildings. Our guide, Danna, was excellent! A former navy instructor, she was both incredibly knowledgeable about the business and very passionate about working their and teaching the history of the distillery. On the way down we had a stop at a drink trailer. And had our tour beverages. We also got to see some of what they were doing out there making charcoal for their distilling process. As we moseyed along further, drinks in hand, we learned about the history. We passed by a really old fire brigade station. And landed in a cabin that had a lot of interesting pictures in it and quite a bit of history. I won't go word for word in my review, then you would have no reason to visit. I'll just add some tidbits as we go. Unbeknownst to myself and my companions, Uncle Nearest and Jack Daniels are very closely related. In fact, Jack's first master distiller was Nathan "Nearest" Green, and Jack Daniel distillery has continuously employed members of the nearest family ever since. Their relationship was not only unique, but that Bond has not broken since this distillery was put in place. Very cool things I did not know, and there's plenty more of that. If you go on the tour. Treat yoself to some knowledge. We then wandered through the distilling area, and barrel House. Our tour ended at The tasting area, where we got to try a number of things. Now. Jack Daniels, like Uncle nearest, is in a dry county and they can't serve things outright. So they have to come up with ways to do it and stay within the laws. So you might notice in my pictures that the tastings have just a wee bit in each glass. If you want more, you'll have to go to the bottle shop. And if you want to buy a barrel, or anything else, you have to go to the hardware shop. When you go on the tour you'll understand what that means and why it's important. At the conclusion of the tour, you can go to the happy hour bar, the bottle shop, or the hardware store. There's a shuttle to take you wherever you want to go on the property or back to your parking spot. It's a very interesting and enlightening tour. We weren't aware how much history was here and all the things we didn't know yet. Very cool tour. Highly recommend going!

But up the road, just past the distillery is where you can find the town's center with antique shops, gift shops, an ice cream parlor, a pizza place and few other places to past the time away while visiting. The friend I came down to visit has been meaning to check out their winery, so we made it a point to put it on the itinerary and it did not disappoint. When walking in, you enter in a room with a register to the right and some novelty items for purchase. Just past this is the actual tasting room. The room is rustic and spacious with a nice size bar in the center. They had two people manning the bar. According to the website, they had two tastings, a regular and a premium. But when we got to the bar, there was only the regular tasting available. Pencils are placed at the bar for you to check off what wines you'd like to sample. They are listed in order from dry to sweet. The wines were tasty with the Moscato being my fav and the Pinot being my friend's. We bought a bottle of each. Each bottle cost $17.95 which isn't bad in the slightest. Things to note: 1) There is no food for purchase but if you need a soda, you can purchase one from the fridge in the tasting room. 2) if you are hungry, don't fret! Like mentioned earlier, there are food options within the town. 3) The Lynchburg Distillery is attached, with moonshine that can be bought as well. I may have bought a sampler without a tasting because YOLO. 4) Like your tasting glass, they are available for purchase at $2.50. Fun day in Lynchburg, TN and a must if you're ever in the area.
