It is quite popular, to sign up in advance, the price is $35 per person. It includes a Whiskey tasting at the end of the tour. Upon arrival, we went to the reservations desk to receive a wristband. They also sell a separate wristband for a frozen JD Whiskey beverage that was served at the beginning of the tour. It was worth trying, especially since I don't know went I will be in Lynchburg Tennessee again. There is a lot of history that was fascinating to learn from our knowledgeable tour guide. The process is quite extensive as we walked from one building to the next. Some parts require walking up and down a staircase to view the machinery at work. You may not be a Whiskey drinker, but this still is an interesting place to visit. One key take away that I learned is, all Bourbon is considered Whiskey, but not all Whiskey is Bourbon. Read that again (lol). They are both aged in wooden barrels, but Bourbon is aged in "new" charred oak barrels, which is a different process. HIGHLIGHTS: - We were able to enter Jack's office, which was like a little house on the premises (photo included). - There is a "Bottle shop" in the lobby. You can purchase and have it engraved as you wait (approximately 30 minutes). They cannot call the gift shop a liquor store, because Lynchburg is considered a "dry" county. Upon approach, the property itself is visible from the highway and was impressive, almost to the point of breathtaking. Justing seeing this was simple reminder on why doing this tour was a must for me. The welcome center was just that, welcoming! It was clean, modern and displayed history of Nearest Green's lineage, facts about the art of distilling, along with display cases filled with tools from the original distillery/farm. There was also a display case for their world-renowned Uncle Nearest Tennessee Whiskey. All the staff I encountered were kind and welcoming. The tour guide for my tour was Terrell Johnson and he was phenomenal! It was obvious from the beginning, that he thoroughly enjoys his job; he was funny, personable, and very knowledgeable. He shared that he's been at the distillery for the past 5 years and has received lots of recognition for outstanding work as a tour guide. The entire property exceeds 450 acres which is massive. That said, the tour only covered a small portion of the property. We did see one of the barrel houses which actually contained barrels of whiskey that were in the aging process. We were also able to see the onsite bottling area which was in operation at the time. Because it was staffed and operational, pictures and video were not allowed. Towards the end of the tour we did a tasting which was included with the tour. During this time, we also got to label our own bottle of Uncle Nearest 1856 to take home with us. Terrell encouraged us to do something unique with the label to ensure it stood out from the bottles that can be purchased at most liquor stores. After completing the tasting, we went back to the welcome enter which and the opportunity to peruse the store which contained numerous Uncle Nearest branded merchandise as well as numerous bottles of the various types of Uncle Nearest whiskey. The unique part about this is they have a few that can only be purchased there which was a nice treat. Lastly, their bar, Humble Baron, is located at the rear of the welcome center space. Unfortunately, I went on a Thursday afternoon and the bar is only open on the weekend. Needless to say, I will make a return visit just experience a pour or two in their bar. Overall, I am pleased with the tour experience and would participate again. was a good experience. As someone who has been supportive of the brand and the Nearest Green story, I hope they quickly resolve their current issues so the focus can return the Nearest Green story and his legacy can continue to live and grow.

I'm on a mission to visit every stop on the Tennessee Whiskey Trail. My latest adventure found me…read moreand my wife at Prichard's Distillery in the tiny town of Kelso, TN. So glad we stopped in! The distillery is a very small, family owned and operated, small-batch craft distillery. They are mainly known for their rum, which I didn't try as I am not a rum fan. However, my wife said it was good. I tried some of their whiskey and bourbon, along with their brandy. All were very good. The distillery is located in an old school house, built in 1939. It is a very cool setting for a distillery. The operation is quite small, so they are truly small-batch. I believe the tour guide said they have 6 or 8 employees, including the owner, his wife and their son. Lots of things are done by hand, including applying the labels to the bottles. The tour and tasting are free, but they do have a place where you can leave tips. The tour lasted maybe 45 minutes. Our tour guide was great! She knew her stuff and was very friendly and fun. For the tasting you get to sample 4 of their products. I opted for the Tennessee whiskey, the barrel proof Tennessee whiskey, the double chocolate bourbon and the brandy. All were quite good, but I highly recommend both the bourbon and the brandy. We visited their small bottle shop afterward and realized we had not tried one of their signature products, Sweet Lucy. Our tour guide brought us a sample. It was good, but it is very sweet. If you are interested in the Tennessee Whiskey Trail, history, or small-batch distilleries (or perhaps all of these), the then I certainly recommend making a stop at this tiny distillery. It's not far from Lynchburg (home of Jack Daniel's) and Tullahoma (home of George Dickel), so you could potentially visit all three in one day. Cheers!

I am a great lover of Rum... so much that I've built a Tiki Bar in my home and I have easily over 50 rums. So finding out there was a Rum Distillery just a short drive away, I had to go! It was an absolutely wonderful experience. My wife had a Rum Old Fashioned followed by a Rum Manhattan (first time either of us had tried a Manhattan with Rum.... AMAZING), while I had a tasting flight followed by a Last Word Cocktail. Everything was FANTASTIC. I HIGHLY recommend doing a tasting flight of all of their offerings. First, the vodka (Sagrav 80) was just wonderful, but still had the wonderful taste of sugar from the molasses it was made from. Each of the Rums were so flavorful, my favorites were the 86 and the 106, but the 89 and 108 were also amazing. Finally, the Gin (Guajana 80) was very surprising! Again, the wonderful sweetness from the Molasses comes out, and just wonderfully compliments the juniper, citrus peel, and other infusions that make up the Gin. If the drinks and the liquor are not wonderful enough for you (they were for me ), the hospitality of Luis and his wife will make you feel at home. From the moment we walked in they made us feel like family and took the time to explain the unique details of each of their offerings to make sure we found exactly what we wanted. I loved the experience so much I took one bottle of everything they offered home with me, and I look forward to coming back often to get more... as I'm sure to quickly run out at home! I HIGHLY recommend making a visit, you will not be disappointed!

With that being said I did buy a bottle of bourbon because it was very good, but I was really disappointed with the cost. It seemed to be a little high compared to other distilleries. Instead, staff consulted a manager and simply told me they would not be serving me. Meanwhile, the other members of my group, all around the same age and carrying valid IDs, were able to order drinks without issue. As an Asian customer, I left this establishment believing I was racially profiled. I was singled out, denied service despite presenting valid identification, and never given a legitimate explanation for why my ID was supposedly unacceptable. Since the incident, I have found multiple reviews from other customers of color describing experiences that raised similar concerns about profiling and disparate treatment. The entire experience was humiliating, unprofessional, and unacceptable. There are plenty of businesses in Nashville that can verify IDs without treating customers this way.

The atmosphere was warm, relaxed, and cozy, with plenty of seating for humans to settle in and enjoy a whiskey flight. The staff immediately made me feel welcome and even brought over a water bowl without being asked. As a professional lounge dog, I appreciated the hospitality. My humans enjoyed sampling several whiskeys while I worked hard supervising the tasting process from my blanket-covered seat at the bar. The tasting room has a comfortable, laid-back feel that makes it easy to spend an hour or two escaping the weather. The unexpected highlight? The gift shop sells a plush dog toy of one of their whiskey bottles. Naturally, my humans bought one for me, and it quickly became one of my favorite toys.
