Upon approach, the property itself is visible from the highway and was impressive, almost to the point of breathtaking. Justing seeing this was simple reminder on why doing this tour was a must for me. The welcome center was just that, welcoming! It was clean, modern and displayed history of Nearest Green's lineage, facts about the art of distilling, along with display cases filled with tools from the original distillery/farm. There was also a display case for their world-renowned Uncle Nearest Tennessee Whiskey. All the staff I encountered were kind and welcoming. The tour guide for my tour was Terrell Johnson and he was phenomenal! It was obvious from the beginning, that he thoroughly enjoys his job; he was funny, personable, and very knowledgeable. He shared that he's been at the distillery for the past 5 years and has received lots of recognition for outstanding work as a tour guide. The entire property exceeds 450 acres which is massive. That said, the tour only covered a small portion of the property. We did see one of the barrel houses which actually contained barrels of whiskey that were in the aging process. We were also able to see the onsite bottling area which was in operation at the time. Because it was staffed and operational, pictures and video were not allowed. Towards the end of the tour we did a tasting which was included with the tour. During this time, we also got to label our own bottle of Uncle Nearest 1856 to take home with us. Terrell encouraged us to do something unique with the label to ensure it stood out from the bottles that can be purchased at most liquor stores. After completing the tasting, we went back to the welcome enter which and the opportunity to peruse the store which contained numerous Uncle Nearest branded merchandise as well as numerous bottles of the various types of Uncle Nearest whiskey. The unique part about this is they have a few that can only be purchased there which was a nice treat. Lastly, their bar, Humble Baron, is located at the rear of the welcome center space. Unfortunately, I went on a Thursday afternoon and the bar is only open on the weekend. Needless to say, I will make a return visit just experience a pour or two in their bar. Overall, I am pleased with the tour experience and would participate again. was a good experience. As someone who has been supportive of the brand and the Nearest Green story, I hope they quickly resolve their current issues so the focus can return the Nearest Green story and his legacy can continue to live and grow.

The atmosphere was warm, relaxed, and cozy, with plenty of seating for humans to settle in and enjoy a whiskey flight. The staff immediately made me feel welcome and even brought over a water bowl without being asked. As a professional lounge dog, I appreciated the hospitality. My humans enjoyed sampling several whiskeys while I worked hard supervising the tasting process from my blanket-covered seat at the bar. The tasting room has a comfortable, laid-back feel that makes it easy to spend an hour or two escaping the weather. The unexpected highlight? The gift shop sells a plush dog toy of one of their whiskey bottles. Naturally, my humans bought one for me, and it quickly became one of my favorite toys. They also have a tour of the old power station that now houses the Dam Whiskey distillery. The tasting costs $5 if you take the tour which costs $32 pp. We did the tasting first and you get minuscule amounts of their wares that is just barely enough to taste although the whiskeys were quite good. The tour on the other hand is definitely something to be avoided. There is no active distilling taking place and the old power station houses barrels of distillate being aged. The tour guide pointed out where there generators were located in the past and a flooded area where new generators were placed in the past. The structure is filthy, dusty and now houses remnants of their Haunted House tour (around Halloween.) This place is an OSHA nightmare with water puddles to walk through and rather dangerous staircases and debris on the floors. It would have been nice if a minimal effort might have been made to show what the power station might have looked like in its heyday. We were glad to escape unscathed except for the cost. Avoid this if you can.
