I'm on a mission to visit every stop on the Tennessee Whiskey Trail. My latest adventure found me and my wife at Prichard's Distillery in the tiny town of Kelso, TN. So glad we stopped in! The distillery is a very small, family owned and operated, small-batch craft distillery. They are mainly known for their rum, which I didn't try as I am not a rum fan. However, my wife said it was good. I tried some of their whiskey and bourbon, along with their brandy. All were very good. The distillery is located in an old school house, built in 1939. It is a very cool setting for a distillery. The operation is quite small, so they are truly small-batch. I believe the tour guide said they have 6 or 8 employees, including the owner, his wife and their son. Lots of things are done by hand, including applying the labels to the bottles. The tour and tasting are free, but they do have a place where you can leave tips. The tour lasted maybe 45 minutes. Our tour guide was great! She knew her stuff and was very friendly and fun. For the tasting you get to sample 4 of their products. I opted for the Tennessee whiskey, the barrel proof Tennessee whiskey, the double chocolate bourbon and the brandy. All were quite good, but I highly recommend both the bourbon and the brandy. We visited their small bottle shop afterward and realized we had not tried one of their signature products, Sweet Lucy. Our tour guide brought us a sample. It was good, but it is very sweet. If you are interested in the Tennessee Whiskey Trail, history, or small-batch distilleries (or perhaps all of these), the then I certainly recommend making a stop at this tiny distillery. It's not far from Lynchburg (home of Jack Daniel's) and Tullahoma (home of George Dickel), so you could potentially visit all three in one day. Cheers!

Prichard's Distillery was a really great distillery that I recently visited. It is housed in an old school house in Kelso, TN. The Prichard family opened their distillery in 1999 originally focusing on whiskey, but currently are more focused on rum and liqueurs. They are one of two grandfathered distilleries that are called Tennessee whiskey without falling the Lincoln County method of distilling. I was impressed by their signature Tennessee Whiskey, which offered a rich, smoky flavor that was both smooth and complex. The distillery also offers a range of other spirits, including rum and vodka, all of which were exceptional. We ended up buying their signature whiskey along with a bottle of their ruby red grapefruit vodka, and their praline liqueur. Checking out the place, it doesn't take long to go through it to check out their products, but it is still really cool to see how they have utilized all of the spaces of the old school building. I am not sure when the building was constructed, but my guess would be the late 1930s or 1940s. Whether you are a whiskey enthusiast or just looking for a great way to spend an afternoon, Prichard's Distillery is an excellent choice to come and try a variety of alcohol. The best part is that the tastings are free. This is not necessarily the case at the other major distilleries around the area. It is a bit removed, but it is worth the trek.

This circa 1939 school house turned rum distillery is well worth stopping by if you're a fan of rum... or history. Like most, I think Jamaica when I think of rum, but the Pritchards of rural south Tennessee will educate you on the fact that world-class rum can be distilled right here in whiskey country! They have some damned good whiskey, vodka and liqueurs, as well! Fun tasting, tour & gift shop!

05/21/2021 A old fashioned distillery in Kelso, TN. Open six (6) days a week, closed on Sundays. Free guided tours are available (that are non scheduled). If you want a free tour and they're busy, you'll have to wait until someone becomes available. On site Spirits Shoppe sells a variety of Prichard's Vodkas, Liqueurs, Brandy, Rums, Whiskies and Moonshines. Prichard's has made a name for itself for their Whiskey, Rum and Liqueur. The best sellers are Prichard's Cranberry Rum and Prichard's Sweet Lucy Liqueur. All the employees are nice. I'm a lightweight drinker and still had a great time.

I was with a friend and we were searching for something to do near the Winchetser area so we drove down to this distillery. It was a cold and rainy day so we were the obly guests there. We were quickly greeted and offered a tour and tasting. We said sure! We then watched a quick 5 min intro video and then went to see the distillery and bottling area. It's a super small, eight employee operation so that makes it even more interesting. The building where everything is made is a renovated school house. The storage and warehouse area is in the old gym. After we asked questions and got the tour from the guide, she let us taste several different types of their products. We recommend the Sweet Lucy! If youre in the area stop by and see them, just not on Sunday!

Stop One on the Distillery Tour for Emily's 21st birthday. We're now Sweet Lucy fans!

I've passed by the sign to Prichards for years and finally decided to go for my daughters 21st birthday. What a treat! Quaint and uncommercialized (unlike the one up the road) not to mention free. One taste of Sweet Lucy and you'll be hooked, too.

If you have some time, seriously consider the Day at Jack tour. An all-day, immersive experience…read moreinto the town of Lynchburg, its history and, of course, an in-depth look at the operation of the Jack Daniel's distillery. My wife and I just finished this tour and would recommend it without hesitation. Our day started at 10:35, when we met our tour guide, Justin, and the small group we'd be spending the day with. After a brief introduction and a quick photo, we boarded a shuttle bus and got a quick look at some historical Lynchburg landmarks. Then we enjoyed lunch at Miss Mary Bobo's Restaurant. It was family-style, southern fare, and simply outstanding. We walked through town to the distillery and enjoyed a fun, fascinating, super informative tour of how Jack is made, stored, bottled, the whole thing. This tour is the one opportunity for visitors to see the inside of one of the barrel storage facilities. The day ended with a tasting session, where we explored some of the finer points of a selection of Jack Daniel's whiskeys and their individual qualities and personalities. Plus everyone received a gift bag with a framed version of the photo taken earlier in the day, some chocolates, and a bottle of Miss Mary Bobo's Hot Sauce (which I had earlier on fried Okra and it was tremendous!). It was nearly 4 p.m. by the time we were done. So I meant when I said "if you have some time." And it costs a little more. But worth every penny and every minute of time. Extra shoutout to Justin who was knowledgeable and engaging and an all around good dude.

Our tour guide H G: Super sweet and so nice…read more Very informative and knowledgeable. Thanks for the great tour..
