I just took my recently purchased 2013 Ford Transit Connect into St Augustine Auto to have it…read morechecked out by Chris. I did not have an appointment. There was a distinct shaking of the engine when at idle, the ABS light was on, and various other things needed to be inspected. I also had Chris install spark plugs that I purchased. Upon inspection, Chris quickly identified that the motor mounts were bad, the valve cover gasket was leaking, one of the spark plug coils was bad, and the rear ABS sensor was completely busted! Chris was able to diagnose and complete all repairs in less than 24hrs! I also expressed my concern of staying within a specific budget on the repair, which Chris was able to help me with. This is my 3rd time having Chris take care of my vehicles. I completely trust his opinion and expertise and won't take my vehicles anywhere else when I need a repair or even just some advice. There's not much more that I can say that hasn't been said in other reviews...but Chris is simply the man! HONEST, EXTREMELY CAPABLE & EFFICIENT! You can TRUST Chris to take care of your auto repair needs! ABSOLUTELY 5 STARS!!!

Took my car for a battery change and was told my car would need 2 batteries (e350 Mercedes)--invoice was over $900. They stated they had run test on both batteries and were at low percentages. One battery would not work properly without the other. In fact the car runs on ONE battery and the charge was $580. Please do not come to this repair shop as they are not honest.

I had a Mass Air Flow error on my 2019 Chevy Cruze. Also had a TPMS (tire pressure monitoring…read moresystem) that needed to be replaced. All done in a day and the price was not hateful -- 400 bucks for both including labor. Today the check engine light came on again, related to the MAF. Another MAF related error came up. I happened to read about the air filter before I drove down and mentioned it to Schaeffer. After checking, discovered the filter had warped causing part of the issue. Schaeffer replaced it for free! Always fair and customer driven. Cheers!

I requested a quote to replace the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor on my 2019 Nissan Rogue Sport…read more The shop quoted $388.65 for the OEM sensor, $80 labor, plus $199 for "reprogramming the module," for a total of $744.15. As someone who works on cars myself, I know that a MAF sensor is plug-and-play on this vehicle and does not require any programming. The "reprogramming" they quoted usually just means driving the car around to recalibrate the computer, which takes minutes, yet they charged $200 for it. When I spoke on the phone with a representative who gave the name "Trevor," he said the reprogramming might not even be needed, but they wouldn't know until after doing the work. To me, this interaction felt untrustworthy. He also used jargon unnecessarily to make it sound more complicated than it is, something any reputable mechanic shop should avoid. The labor to replace the sensor is typically 5-10 minutes, and the part can be purchased OEM (Nissan factory) for ~$230-$250. My advice: get a second opinion or buy the part yourself to save hundreds of dollars.

I had an incredible experience with Melvin's. I was told By Advance Auto that my alternator was…read morebad on my 2013 Toyota Sienna. After calling around to a few places, I decided on Melvin's. First, they honored the lifetime warranty that Napa and other auto parts places gave the alternator. Secondly, they gave a year longer warranty on labor than the local Toyota dealerships. Lastly, they have the best price. Replacing the alternator is nearly an $800 job. Because of the high expense, Adam took it upon himself to test it before simply replacing it. It turns out, it wasn't bad after all. My van has a lot of specialized driving equipment that allows me to drive, even though I am a quadriplegic paralyzed from my chest down. When Adam and his team were unsure how to troubleshoot some of the specialized equipment, he did not hesitate to call the handicap equipment company that built my van. They took the time to properly diagnose the problem and even helped me contact a local company specializing in the equipment installed in my van. Furthermore, they did not charge me for all their help! So instead of costing nearly $800 to replace an alternator that was not bad, I was able to replace a $26 backup battery that tied into my Specialty Equipment. I cannot speak highly enough of the team at Melvin's! Adam and the others treated us with respect, honesty, and like family. I know who to call first with any auto issues that my family and I may have in the future! Thank you for all of your help!

Figured I would give a local shop a shot at fixing. Ended up using Bozard Ford mobile service who did a stellar job diagnosing. Sorry Melvin, I gave you a shot.
