Unfortunately, what should have been a straightforward vehicle purchase turned into a frustrating experience involving conflicting information, questionable sales practices, poor communication, and an unresolved refund. My 72-year-old partner, who has severe mobility limitations and relies on a cane, accompanied me on our trip from Chicago to Merrillville. The dealership's handling of several issues resulted in unnecessary physical hardship for my partner, including an entirely avoidable second trip from Chicago. When we arrived at the dealership, Mr. Vargas informed us that the vehicle had been sold approximately a week earlier. After I requested a corporate telephone number, we were the vehicle was there and then told twice that the vehicle would be brought around in five minutes. We were subsequently informed that it was in the service department on a rack. After I left the dealership in frustration, Mr. Haddad, preowned sales manager, contacted us and asked us to return. Upon our return, he had to search the lot and dealership before locating the vehicle parked on the far side of the building. The vehicle had not been serviced and was not prepared to a standard I would reasonably expect from a Lexus dealership. The conflicting explanations and unnecessary delays made for a frustrating start to the buying experience and raised concerns about the dealership's handling of its inventory and customer communications. Before completing the purchase, Mr. Haddad explicitly confirmed that the vehicle came with two keys. However, I received only one key at delivery. The finance manager also told me that my refund will be ready when I picked up the extra key. But this never occurred. I subsequently scheduled an appointment for Tuesday, September 22, 2026, and made another trip from Chicago specifically to have the second key programmed. Given my partner's significant mobility limitations, this trip created considerable physical stress that could have been avoided with proper communication and preparation. Upon arrival, I was told that the second key had never been ordered. Only after I escalated the matter to the service manager was the original second key located on-site. This was particularly frustrating because I had relied on the dealership's explicit assurance that two keys were included. The additional trip should never have been necessary had the situation been properly handled from the beginning. During the purchase, I paid $4,275 for a three-year service contract after being assured that I was receiving a discounted price and that the dealership's profit was only $500. Given the substantial cost of this contract, I requested a written explanation supporting these representations, including: The name of the service contract provider. The exact coverage, exclusions, and limitations The contract's retail price and the basis for the quoted discount. Documentation supporting the representation that the dealership's profit would be only $500, including the dealer's cost and any applicable commission. The cancellation policy and any applicable refund provisions. I believe customers deserve clear, verifiable information about the products they are purchasing, particularly when thousands of dollars are involved. During the closing process, I questioned the $399 Vehicle Theft Protection charge listed under "Dealer Installed Options & Services." I was told that this charge was mandatory to complete the purchase. Because it was presented as a dealer-installed option rather than a government-imposed or statutory fee, I was concerned that I was not given a meaningful opportunity to decline it. During closing I mentioned to the finance manager that there's negative reviews of customers not getting their refund in a timely manner. He promised me that it would not be a problem. It's been 6 weeks and I have not received my refund.

The vehicle was not accurately represented, and several issues were either downplayed or completely ignored during the sales process. Once the paperwork was signed, communication basically disappeared and getting any help or accountability became a hassle. The staff were more focused on closing the deal than making sure the customer was taken care of. Promises made during the sale were suddenly "misunderstandings," and follow-up support was extremely poor. Buying a car should be straightforward -- instead, this turned into a frustrating experience that cost me time, money, and trust. If you're considering buying from here, do yourself a favor and get EVERYTHING in writing, inspect the vehicle thoroughly, and be prepared for zero support after the sale. Plenty of other dealerships actually value customers. I wish I had gone to one of them instead.

I was a bit concerned at the beginning of my visit as there was no one approaching me to see if I had questions and the 3 managers sitting at the sales desk were apparently too busy to realize that there were shoppers in the showroom not being assisted. Rather than just walking out, I walked up to the sales desk and told them I would like to take a Passat for a test drive. They asked a young lady named Tal Mack to assist me and any negative feelings I had were suddenly erased. Tal quickly found a vehicle that matched my specifications and we took a test drive. Although Tal said she had only been with the dealership a month, she absolutely had been doing her homework! She explained the features of the vehicle as I drove and was careful to pay attention to questions I asked so she could refer me to the appropriate feature. By the time we returned from the approximately 7 minute test drive I knew 400x more about the car then I did when we got in and it wasn't technical info, but practical info for me. If I had been purchasing the vehicle for myself, I would have absolutely gone back in with Tal to work toward completing a sale. With this type if emphasis on product knowledge, I would highly recommend visiting this dealership if you are in the market for a VW.

Unfortunately, our experience with City VW of Highland was by far the most disappointing. When purchasing a certified pre-owned vehicle, customers expect the dealership to conduct a thorough multi-point inspection, often covering well over 100 items. Based on our experience, I seriously question how thorough that inspection was. Within 10-15 minutes of driving the vehicle off the lot, the oil warning light came on. After getting the car home, I noticed streaking on the passenger side of the windshield and discovered the windshield wiper was held together with electrical tape. We also found stickers on the vehicle's interior ceiling. When closing the passenger door, I heard a rattling noise and later found beer caps and an air freshener can wedged inside the storage compartment. Altogether, these issues added to the impression that the car had not been properly cleaned, inspected, or prepared before delivery. Individually, these issues may seem minor, but together they raise serious concerns about the quality of the dealership's inspection and preparation process. If these obvious problems were missed, it makes me wonder what else may have been overlooked. Normally, the oil warning light would have prompted us to return to the dealership immediately. However, after already spending more than five hours there during the purchase process (on Monday of Memorial Day weekend, not a high-volume day at the dealership) --with little to no hospitality from the dealership beyond access to a vending machine fulled with junk food--we had absolutely no desire to go back. Overall, this experience fell well below the standard we've come to expect from Volkswagen dealerships. The entire process was so frustrating and disappointing that it honestly makes us hesitant to purchase another vehicle anytime soon.
