Technically, there are other tea shops in Eugene. ¿De verdad? The only one that matters is J-Tea. This man knows his craft, and himself, better than anybody else I've had the pleasure of meeting. Thank you, sir, for doing all that you do! read more

Note: As of May 2024, this is just a retail shop. The owner previously had a place where you could buy prepared beverages, but that is no more. However, if you want to actually drink tea, you can come on Tuesday's at 2 to their focused tastings. This was a great tea shop with so much tea. If you're new to tea, or don't know much, you might be a little overwhelmed. This shop focuses more on "straight" tea, and very little on flavored or scented blends (although there are a few). All the teas have tasting notes next to them, so you can get an idea of what you might be interested in. The owner Josh is super knowledgeable about everything in the store. If you're feeling overwhelmed, you can come on Tuesday's to their focused tastings. The menu changes every week. While the price might initially seem high for a cup of tea, consider that you are getting lots of and lots of resteeps and very high quality tea. Plus you can see how it is brewed if you are unsure of how to brew it yourself. They also have an online store if you are not in the area, where you can have the tea shipped to you. If you've got some time, you can also ask the shop owner about his vacuum sealing process! read more

Great looking place. Lots of tables, couches and areas to hang out our get work done. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. There's a crazy selection of teas and they were able to help describe each one and recommend something. They also serve Boba Tea but we only got hot tea. I wish my town had a place like this. read more

I don't come here nearly as much as I should. A small and charming tea focused cafe and store. This place is a dream for any tea enthusiast. They have a big menu of different teas to try. The walls are lined with loose leaf teas on one side and different tea kettles and cups on the other. All for purchase. As soon as you enter you are met with a pleasant aroma of tea and florals. The staff is very friendly, kind, and knowledgeable. Don't be afraid to ask questions. For any tea newbie this store could be a little overwhelming. But they got your back. A warm and relaxing atmosphere that I love to sit and work on my laptop or read a book in. read more

J-Tea - Tea Rooms Near Me - Eugene, Oregon

We're still enjoying our Winter Sprout tea! We didn't meet Josh and I wish I knew our tea guide's name. But he was informed, welcoming and guided us to a wonderful choice. They only had a few bags left so you may not find anymore when you go. But there are many others. It's a peaceful environment. I'd love to sit and enjoy a few cups everyday but alas, I don't live in Eugene! And it's on Friendly St. - how wonderful is that? read more

Knowledgeable owner who explained the different varieties and uses to me. Nice people who make and sell very good teas. If you want to get into serious tea drinking, this is the place. read more

I absolutely adore this tea shop. The shop's owner is usually the one working and is beyond knowledgeable about anything and everything to do with tea. He scouts out his own growers in Asia, roasts leaves to do mixtures as custom orders, and does a wholesale business as well. I gave several gift certificates to this lovely place for the holidays. Go have a cup of tea and get out of the rain. You'll be glad you did! read more

Can't we all just get Oolong? JTea is a unique gem tucked in behind the Dari Mart on Friendly and 28th. If you want to plug in your laptop and put your feet up, this is not the tea shop for that moment. If you want to truly taste properly prepared tea with mind blowing flavors, and perhaps get some information you must come here (it's kind of your only option). The folks behind the counter are a pleasure to speak to, about what else, Tea! All of the pure tea selections here: Puer, Oolong, White Tea, Black Tea, Green Tea, Charcoal Roasted Tea, High Mountain Tea... Are amazing. Subtle, sublime, soothing, and satisfying. Ancient beverages in an elegant modern setting with friendly knowledgable service and comprehensive selection. They have way more than a hundred teas. read more

I have to upgrade to five stars, simply because more exposure to the tea, and the shop, has made me appreciate it more. The earthy flavor of the tea I've gotten lately is amazing, and reminds you that tea grows-it isn't made in a factory. read more

I love that you can try the tea here. They have a nice bar like setup where you can sit and sample. We went for the grand opening this Saturday and it was packed. They were offering a free sample cup and they were making tea like you wouldn't believe and it still tasted great! These weren't you tiny Asian style cups, like we're accustomed to when we have sampled tea. Instead, they served the tea in big coffee style mugs which surprised us. The highlight of our Saturday was a Chinese Lion Dance Ceremony that took place outside and partly inside the shop! We had the chance to meet the owner too. He is super friendly and willing to help you pick out teas you might like, answer all your stupid questions, and just an awesome guy in general. My only complaint is that I'm not a big fan of how the dry tea is sold. At J-Tea it's all prepackaged, where as I like to buy it where they can weigh out how much I want. Though, that's more of a personal preference! All in all, I think it's a great local shop that has a lot to offer. I'm thinking it will be an awesome place to meet people, you can just sample the tea, sit, and talk. I will definitely be coming back to sample teas! read more

A purveyor of tea culture. Stop by and you will be greeted by Josh Chamberlain, who is the humble owner of J-Tea. Josh knows tea. Ask him about Puer, Ooolong and something I haven't tried yet called Dong Ding. Next thing you'll know you're tea tasting. You may have seen J-Tea at the local Asian Celebration but here is a chance to open your tea horizons and see what tea can do for you. Sleepless nights? Stress? Case of the Oingo Boingos? Or just simply experience the delicious taste of tea. I drink tea the first thing in the morning. Then a coffee drink mid-day. I end my day with Iron-Goddess Ooolong and repeat, rinse and recycle my life away. Thanks J-Tea!!! xoxo. read more

The Good: The shop is very stylish. The front of the store is one huge glass window, so there's great ambient light that gives a warm feel to the place. The owner sources his tea directly from Taiwan and really knows his stuff. There's also a nice tea bar where you can sit and enjoy any of the numerous teas they have on hand. The Bad: The tea here is top quality, but it comes at a price. Much more expensive than tea pretty much anywhere else. The teaware is also quite expensive, again to be expected for hand crafted china. Seating is also a little tight, 4 or 5 people at the tea bar is about the limit. The Ugly: Be forewarned, unless you know how to prepare the tea correctly, you might not taste any difference at all from regular old Stash or Lipton. The Rundown: This is a great little tea bar to sit and try out teas, all reasonably priced at $2-$3 for a large cup. The packaged stuff is expensive, so try before you buy. read more

The tea is like love in the form of tea. This is true for any tea. Black, white, green, Formosa, etc. read more

J-Tea - Valentine's day chocolate! - Tea Rooms Near Me - Eugene, Oregon

Was awesome till price was jacked from $3.00 - $4.00 for a cup of tea no refills. Loosing a daily regular at Oolong Tea Bar. Thank you for the enjoyable time before that though. God bless read more

I've been a. Tea drinker for decades and in many countries. The herbal chai tea here is the smoothest most flavorful I've ever had. I am excited to try more. I do wish the tea tasting could be made for one and more events to allow trying more different kinds. read more

If you are looking for older teas, from 70s/80s, this is the place to go. Would recommend Old Wu and Aged Beauty. Absolutely magnificent teas. Both are very different, however the layers of taste are unreal. The owner is very knowledgeable about the inventory and is happy to teach others. Highly recommend. read more

Happy to see a new business in the neighborhood, so I checked it out, and ordered a jasmine milk bubble tea. I have enough sense to know good quality tea when I taste it, and this was good! But I was definitely disappointed in the bubble part, especially given the price of $6! No delicious, chewy boba...instead an enthusiastic amount of tiny, soft, unsweetened "bubbles" that were a bit like tea with overcooked couscous in it. Maybe they just boiled some tapioca pearls? Yes, I understand tapioca pearls and boba are all made of the same thing really, but size and texture matter. Probably not coming back, sorry J-Tea. read more

Nice place to relax on a rainy day or bring out of town guests to. Large selection of teas with a knowledgeable staff ready to assist.

Josh is a great guy and I am so thankful that he provides such high quality tea to Eugene. It is a rare privilege to be able to drink tea of such a high caliber. read more

Best tea house in town. Modern yet simple. I love the way it smells in here. Try the bug bitten teas.

J-Tea does a fabulous job at introducing the Western world to Eastern tradition. Josh, the owner, is very knowledgeable and generous when it comes to sharing his passion. A tea taste isn't unusual at J-tea. It is a unique experience to see tea prepared in a traditional way. The prices are reasonable and you are helping to support a local, fair-traded business. Even if you know very little about tea, you should go and be enlightened. read more

J-Tea is a fantastic tea shop, and one of Eugene's treasures. Complaining about the prices is like calling yourself a wine lover and complaining that a shop only carries good wine. "Where is the $6.99 gallon jug of merlot?" Wal-Mart, where it belongs. The teas you find here are actually an excellent value as they're some of the finest teas you can purchase in North America. As J-Tea distributes to a variety of prestigious merchants nationwide, you'll find teas here you'd pay three or four times as much money for elsewhere. (I'm not going to name names, but suffice to say, if you're currently purchasing from shops in major urban centers, do yourself a favor and get it from the source. The names are slightly different, but it's the same stuff. The owner of J-Tea does the legwork himself in visiting the countries of origin.) If you enjoy tea at all, do yourself a favor and visit J-Tea. Take a tea tour and have some amazing new experiences! read more

Enjoyed tea tasting last evening with group of 10 people. Owner Josh is a Raconteur extraordinary: tea expert, limitless knowledge. Josh and Manager Will serve up a Performance Art working and speaking synergistically. Beautiful store architecture and fully stocked. It is a Mecca which I would expect to find in San Francisco. read more

Josh recently got a shipment of new tea from Taiwan - so good! Definitely recommend that you go in and try it out...

This place is definitely a gem among tea houses. J-Tea offers a wide variety of high quality teas at a good price. Josh is also as real as it gets. His training in Taiwan shines through in all aspects of his store and devotion to tea. Highly recommend. read more

Great architecture and design of the shop; has a character of its own. Great selection of pots and teaware, good teas. A must if anyone is in Eugene. read more

I took my mother here for Mother's Day. We sampled three types of oolong teas that the owner hand selected for us and two of the ice teas (which he shakes like a cocktail until they are frothy). All of the teas were wonderful and we purchased three to take home. My mother thanked me for such a special day. Thanks J-tea! read more

Very fun, almost feels interactive as you watch the tea being brewed and served. Great, relaxing and tasty experience. Make sure to ask about the pottery, mostly locally made and available for sale! I just got some tea to take as a souvenir with me, but i will be going back! read more

This place has awesome service, great tea, and an educated owner. Ask him about the tea. You'll be glad you did. I feel more tea competent every time I talk with him. read more

Great selection and presentation. Get josh talking to learn a lot about tea. Try the Rou gui roasted oolong!

The tea was great, and decently priced. The atmosphere left something to be desired. I was expecting a nice little tea house where I could sit down and have some good tea and hang out with my friends. Apparently this is not considered appropriate behavior for this store/establishment, as we kept getting "looks" from the owner as we talked. But the time I finished my one cup of tea, I was feeling very awkward and uncomfortable. The seating area is very small, so don't come in groups of more than about 2. I would come back for the tea... as long as I could get it to-go. read more

Authentic oriental tea. It is amazing we have a real tea house in Eugene. The high quality and friendly price tea is a good choice instead of coffee. If you don't know anything about oriental tea such as Oolong or Puer, here is the best place to explore your experience and knowledge. read more

Great selection of Taiwanese Oolongs (especially) and excellent atmosphere

This is a small shop with a few seats at the counter so don't plan on bringing a large group of people. That said, the two guys behind the counter were very friendly and quite happy to share their knowledge about tea. The vibe is pretty cool with a variety of styles of music playing in the background and a beautiful environment. Even though I haven't discovered a favorite tea yet, I can see myself going back to try a few more. I had a great time. read more

Eugene is so lucky to have this wonderful tea shop. Beautiful design of the shop. I love the bar in the middle of the room and the skylights. Relaxing and welcoming. Large selection of tea and tisanes. I'm addicted to all the tea ware and want to get a new clay teapot every time I'm in. This shop really expanded my knowledge on tea. Oolongs are my favorite. Sometimes the owner has classes which I highly recommend. Excellent spot to welcome someone to town or on a date before or after dinner. read more

J-Tea and Josh are the real deal if you are a true teahead, and particularly if you are a fan of Taiwanese Oolong and other traditional Taiwanese and Chinese teas. Beautiful store, great atmosphere, cool and friendly staff. Three steeps with every cup of tea and a wide selection. I will keep driving from Corvallis to Eugene to come here and unwind. Tea shops like this are hard to come by. Tea is pretty much my religion and I would be here all the time if I could. I hardly ever write Yelp reviews but this place deserves one. read more

Love these guys. My favorite is the Golden Bough roasted Oolong. Come for the tea, stay for the hang, and leave with a nice caffeine buzz.

Wide selection of very excellent oolongs excellently brewed by a knowledgable and friendly staff. Cozy and pleasant place to sip a cup during rainy days or cool off with a signature iced tea. Don't come looking for herbals though. This shop is for the purist. Also, spend some time browsing the tea art and traditional Yi Xing tea ware. read more

I recently learned a valuable lesson from the owner of J-Tea, always taste before you buy. I purchased a large package of Jasmine Pearl Tea and was not happy with the taste. The first thing he did when I told him the problem, was to accuse me of having put inferior tea into his bag! He refused to believe it was his tea for some time until he made up a cup and realized there was a problem with the color and finally looked at the pearls. In the end, after a string of negative comments directed at me, he opened another bag of tea that he was happy with and gave it to me to replace the original purchase. Needless to say, I will not be returning to purchase more tea. read more

I have enjoyed visiting this tea house many times and never have I come away other than totally pleased. The selection of fine teas is wonderful and the owner has been patiently willing to help this novice learn for which I am most grateful. And, going to J-Tea is always fun!
