However, if you want to actually drink tea, you can come on Tuesday's at 2 to their focused tastings. This was a great tea shop with so much tea. If you're new to tea, or don't know much, you might be a little overwhelmed. This shop focuses more on "straight" tea, and very little on flavored or scented blends (although there are a few). All the teas have tasting notes next to them, so you can get an idea of what you might be interested in. The owner Josh is super knowledgeable about everything in the store. If you're feeling overwhelmed, you can come on Tuesday's to their focused tastings. The menu changes every week. While the price might initially seem high for a cup of tea, consider that you are getting lots of and lots of resteeps and very high quality tea. Plus you can see how it is brewed if you are unsure of how to brew it yourself. They also have an online store if you are not in the area, where you can have the tea shipped to you. There's a crazy selection of teas and they were able to help describe each one and recommend something. They also serve Boba Tea but we only got hot tea. I don't come here nearly as much as I should. A small and charming tea focused cafe and store. This place is a dream for any tea enthusiast. They have a big menu of different teas to try. The walls are lined with loose leaf teas on one side and different tea kettles and cups on the other. All for purchase. As soon as you enter you are met with a pleasant aroma of tea and florals. The staff is very friendly, kind, and knowledgeable. Don't be afraid to ask questions. For any tea newbie this store could be a little overwhelming. But they got your back. We're still enjoying our Winter Sprout tea! We didn't meet Josh and I wish I knew our tea guide's name. But he was informed, welcoming and guided us to a wonderful choice. They only had a few bags left so you may not find anymore when you go. But there are many others. It's a peaceful environment. I absolutely adore this tea shop. The shop's owner is usually the one working and is beyond knowledgeable about anything and everything to do with tea. He scouts out his own growers in Asia, roasts leaves to do mixtures as custom orders, and does a wholesale business as well. I gave several gift certificates to this lovely place for the holidays. Can't we all just get Oolong? JTea is a unique gem tucked in behind the Dari Mart on Friendly and 28th. If you want to plug in your laptop and put your feet up, this is not the tea shop for that moment. I love that you can try the tea here. They have a nice bar like setup where you can sit and sample. We went for the grand opening this Saturday and it was packed. They were offering a free sample cup and they were making tea like you wouldn't believe and it still tasted great! These weren't you tiny Asian style cups, like we're accustomed to when we have sampled tea. Instead, they served the tea in big coffee style mugs which surprised us. The highlight of our Saturday was a Chinese Lion Dance Ceremony that took place outside and partly inside the shop! We had the chance to meet the owner too. He is super friendly and willing to help you pick out teas you might like, answer all your stupid questions, and just an awesome guy in general. My only complaint is that I'm not a big fan of how the dry tea is sold. At J-Tea it's all prepackaged, where as I like to buy it where they can weigh out how much I want. Though, that's more of a personal preference! All in all, I think it's a great local shop that has a lot to offer. I've been a. Tea drinker for decades and in many countries. The herbal chai tea here is the smoothest most flavorful I've ever had. I am excited to try more. I do wish the tea tasting could be made for one and more events to allow trying more different kinds. read more

If you are looking for older teas, from 70s/80s, this is the place to go. Would recommend Old Wu and Aged Beauty. Absolutely magnificent teas. Both are very different, however the layers of taste are unreal. The owner is very knowledgeable about the inventory and is happy to teach others. Highly recommend. read more

The Good: The shop is very stylish. The front of the store is one huge glass window, so there's great ambient light that gives a warm feel to the place. The owner sources his tea directly from Taiwan and really knows his stuff. There's also a nice tea bar where you can sit and enjoy any of the numerous teas they have on hand. The Bad: The tea here is top quality, but it comes at a price. Much more expensive than tea pretty much anywhere else. The teaware is also quite expensive, again to be expected for hand crafted china. Seating is also a little tight, 4 or 5 people at the tea bar is about the limit. The Ugly: Be forewarned, unless you know how to prepare the tea correctly, you might not taste any difference at all from regular old Stash or Lipton. The Rundown: This is a great little tea bar to sit and try out teas, all reasonably priced at $2-$3 for a large cup. The packaged stuff is expensive, so try before you buy. read more

Happy to see a new business in the neighborhood, so I checked it out, and ordered a jasmine milk bubble tea. I have enough sense to know good quality tea when I taste it, and this was good! But I was definitely disappointed in the bubble part, especially given the price of $6! No delicious, chewy boba...instead an enthusiastic amount of tiny, soft, unsweetened "bubbles" that were a bit like tea with overcooked couscous in it. Maybe they just boiled some tapioca pearls? Yes, I understand tapioca pearls and boba are all made of the same thing really, but size and texture matter. Probably not coming back, sorry J-Tea. read more

J-Tea is a fantastic tea shop, and one of Eugene's treasures. Complaining about the prices is like calling yourself a wine lover and complaining that a shop only carries good wine. "Where is the $6.99 gallon jug of merlot?" Wal-Mart, where it belongs. The teas you find here are actually an excellent value as they're some of the finest teas you can purchase in North America. As J-Tea distributes to a variety of prestigious merchants nationwide, you'll find teas here you'd pay three or four times as much money for elsewhere. (I'm not going to name names, but suffice to say, if you're currently purchasing from shops in major urban centers, do yourself a favor and get it from the source. The names are slightly different, but it's the same stuff. The owner of J-Tea does the legwork himself in visiting the countries of origin.) I took my mother here for Mother's Day. We sampled three types of oolong teas that the owner hand selected for us and two of the ice teas (which he shakes like a cocktail until they are frothy). The tea was great, and decently priced. The atmosphere left something to be desired. I was expecting a nice little tea house where I could sit down and have some good tea and hang out with my friends. Apparently this is not considered appropriate behavior for this store/establishment, as we kept getting "looks" from the owner as we talked. But the time I finished my one cup of tea, I was feeling very awkward and uncomfortable. The seating area is very small, so don't come in groups of more than about 2. This is a small shop with a few seats at the counter so don't plan on bringing a large group of people. That said, the two guys behind the counter were very friendly and quite happy to share their knowledge about tea. The vibe is pretty cool with a variety of styles of music playing in the background and a beautiful environment. Eugene is so lucky to have this wonderful tea shop. Beautiful design of the shop. I love the bar in the middle of the room and the skylights. Relaxing and welcoming. Large selection of tea and tisanes. I'm addicted to all the tea ware and want to get a new clay teapot every time I'm in. This shop really expanded my knowledge on tea. Oolongs are my favorite. A few of my friends had told me that they spend upwards of 3 hours drinking tea here and I could not believe that drinking tea would be that entertaining. I had to check it out for myself. As soon as I got in the door I was welcomed by a peaceful environment and a extensive list of teas. I purchased one cup of tea (which can be re-poured up to 4 times) and spent about an hour drinking, chatting with the tea server, and just enjoying the environment. This is a beautiful pocket in Eugene to get away from the daily bustle and enjoy a moment of silence and a cup of tea. read more

I recently learned a valuable lesson from the owner of J-Tea, always taste before you buy. I purchased a large package of Jasmine Pearl Tea and was not happy with the taste. The first thing he did when I told him the problem, was to accuse me of having put inferior tea into his bag! He refused to believe it was his tea for some time until he made up a cup and realized there was a problem with the color and finally looked at the pearls. In the end, after a string of negative comments directed at me, he opened another bag of tea that he was happy with and gave it to me to replace the original purchase. Needless to say, I will not be returning to purchase more tea. read more
