Everyone was booked around Downtown so I decided to venture out and drove towards South Austin. I looked up stylists for balayage hair and just my luck Jae picked up her phone during her lunch break!! She made me feel at ease on the phone so my anxiety of going to a new stylist was gone. Upon arrival, the front desk receptionist happily showed me to Jae's booth and I was greeted with a big smile and hug. During her consultation, she was very professional and detailed. She has such good vibes and the conversations made me feel like I knew Jae for a lifetime haha! Personality aside, her work was prompt and amazing. Read all the hidden reviews first!!! Yelp seems to hide them. At first after she styled it it looked great. After a week It was dry and brittle. Jae damaged my hair so it's now all breaking and falling out. I had long healthy strong hair before and Jae has ruined it. Will take years to grow out. Update. 8 months after she touched my hair it's still ruined. Still breaking and orange and brassy. At least I have some healthy new growth but it will still take time to reverse the damage. I've never spent so much money on hair treatments since Jae touched my hair. BEWARE! I don't know how she got 5 star reviews but it makes me doubt. read more

Hair ruined - 2 stars for nice styling, 0 stars for my hair after I washed it - I wish I had looked at the 'non recommended' yelp reviews before going to Jae but I didnt notice them at the bottom of the reviews! I went in for highlights and balayage and walked out super happy because the color looked fabulous and she flat ironed my hair so it looked pretty smooth. At a glance the color looked great, dark blond and caramel. Now its orange and yellow and super damaged and so frizzy. She put me down for using box color saying it was cheap and damaging, but truly, I always had healthy hair even with box colors. It was shiny and smooth before she touched it. After I washed out her nice styling its dry, crunchy, damaged, and all frizzled. I'm so upset, my hair was down to the middle of my back but now it breaks when I brush it and seems to be falling out everywhere. It breaks off in pieces from less than a centimeter to a few inches or more. I've had to cut most of it and it still looks horrible. I miss my healthy hair. I had looked at her reviews before and they looked great! maybe they were reviewing right after she styled it? I missed the 1 & 2 star reviews that for some reason are hidden at the bottom and not included in the calculation of overall star rating. Would not return. Average color but my hair is much drier and damaged after Jae touched it. She is very nice, but not up to par. The cut also did not fall properly and my ends looked frayed. I had to go to another hair stylist to make the corrections, so in the end I paid double. Not sure how she gets the 5 star reviews, but there are alot of one stars that Yelp is not showing. Wish I had known. The 3 stars are - 5 stars very nice, and I'm sure if she doesnt ruin your hair you will love her PLUS 1 star only for quality of service. read more

So disappointed. Jae is sweet, yes, but does not know how to do dark hair. She FRIED my hair, bleached it without watching the timing, and did a very poor cut. I've never had my hair so unhealthy - its breaking all the time, dried out, and now that I've washed it, its orange and brassy, with black for the hair she left natural. Looks and feels awful, will take years to grow out. I think the people who are happy with her are the blonder ones, as in photo, but if you have hispanic, asian or indian hair, stay away. I regret ever going to her. Also, she knew I was disappointed but only told me that it would get better with washing - its now worse. :( read more

I was surprised by the 5 star review but see that Yelp has hidden and not counted a couple of 1 star reviews! If I had seen that BEFORE would not gone here. Mediocre experience and results that left my hair brittle and damaged. I have dark brown hair and she bleached it and now that I've washed it the caramel color that she covered it with is gone and I looked like a tiger. My best friend fixed it with a box dye, but my hair is frizzy and full of split ends. She also has no idea how to do a proper job. Over lightened the bottom inside only, then striped the top, didnt touch the sides by the face where you want lighter colour - wish I had paid more attention but she was so nice I just trusted her. I wish I had checked out Yelp before I went to Jae. I had long very thick and healthy hair before she bleached it orange and yellow - it was absolutely not the balayage I had asked for. Mine was a rich dark brown and I wanted caramel/honey highlights. Its been a few weeks now - I had to get it re-colored to get rid of the striped tiger look. On top of everything because of her harsh treatment, my hair is now so so frizzy and full of split ends! Its also falling out everywhere - driving my boyfriend crazy - I basically need to wear a hair net to cook. The hair cut she gave me at the end looked ok when she did it, but now it looks worse than a self-cut. Super unflattering. She was not respectful and didnt seem to care when she saw how crazy bleached my hair came out. She told me it was supposed to be like that, and then dyed it again dark - so the end result looked ok in her salon, but as soon as I washed it at home the bleached orange came back - I cried. Also, I did not find her salon very professional or clean - she uses regular aluminum foil like you bake with and saran wrap from the kitchen. read more
