I hired John and his team to paint my apartment and install crown moldings. They were extremely thorough, fast, and efficient in their work. They were able to spot and address issues left behind by poorer past paint jobs. They skim coated the walls, removed old painted-over wallpaper, patched up wall panels. I highly recommend JP Interiors for your next painting project. His team completed a small job for me (patching some walls/ceilings and painting parts of three rooms) at high quality and a day early (2 days instead of 3). John was personable and helpful from the start. He shared his expertise when it was appreciated but also deferred to me when I knew what I wanted in terms of color, finish, which surfaces to paint, et c. He also turned down an opportunity to upsell me when we faced a choice of color matching the surrounding walls and blending only around where his team patched or painting the entire wall - his team tried the blending at first instead of the more expensive entire wall approach, and it looks beautiful! His team was courteous and professional, working efficiently and quietly, cleaning up thoroughly each day, and protecting walls, floors, and fixtures well. His team also held themselves to a high standard of quality: when something they were reattaching had been screwed insecurely into the edge of drywall before, they used a piece of wood behind the edge of the drywall to make sure it screwed in securely. I couldn't find anything amiss in my final walk-through - and hadn't needed to intervene at all throughout the process. Oh boy, I should have read the reviews before booking John. Due yourself a favor and trust what is written here. I recently had an outrageous phone call with John, where he had a completely inappropriate tantrum and quite literally began yelling at me, all because I reminded him that some of the work his team had done was sloppy. Which it was, and you will see that noted here throughout. Instead of having him come back to do touch-ups, I ended the working relationship on the spot as I don't want someone so volatile in my home. His team was polite and fast, it's just their attention to detail that was lacking. But none of that matters when the owner you're dealing with is bizarrely hostile. To quote a previous yelp reviewer: "John seems incapable of admitting fault in *anything* and thinks very, very highly of himself and his company's work. They do good work, but the customer service and attention to detail are sorely lacking. In the end, he's just a regular house painter." Sums it up beautifully. Please read the other one star review on this app. John wanted to get my permission to do a sub standard job- I kind of thought he was just trying to under promise and over deliver. It was a very small apartment, and he didn't have to do ceilings or crown molding, and only 1 coat. He charged $1300 plus tax plus he bought an excessive amount of paint. When he told me that he didn't need this job because he has really high paying big jobs, I should have taken his offer to back out, but at that point I only had a few days to find another painter. He was bemoaning the fact that he may not be be able to get it done with two men for a full day. Meanwhile my husband and I have painted the apartment several times in that time frame - not sure what the problem was especially since there was such little attention to any detail - paint on all the windows - large drips of paint on walls, but I guess he warned me that it was going to be a bad job so I really shouldn't complain. read more

I found John on Angie's List. It was the first time I had ever booked a painter so I went through a half dozen meetings with various painters before selecting him. John had the best service record, the best evidence of good past work, and the best demeanor. He was someone I felt I could trust. He was also able to bid competitively and accommodate my schedule. When he arrived, John set his crew to work quickly. He outlined the instructions for paint colors and finishes carefully and then we both went on our ways. I actually went out of town and 2 days later returned to a sparkling, fresh coat of paint on all the walls. No errors, smudges, or goofs to speak of. Paint with JP, or don't paint at all. John is an absolute pleasure to work with. I didn't know what to expect from a color consultation, and I was amazed. John is a color expert. He takes his time explaining how each color would work with the light and shade of each room, and recommended options I would never have chosen on my own - but have ended up being crazy about. In addition, JP and crew keep your home so neat - covering every exposed area not leaving a speck of dust when they are finished. I do not recommend John from JP Interiors. I recently purchased a condo and wanted some rooms painted. At first John was very helpful and suggested to come by and see the place for himself. After numerous emails just asking him simple questions (since I'm a first time home owner and wanted to make sure i'm doing everything correctly) he seemed annoyed and didn't want to come by to see the place himself. John will make a lot of promises to get your business but when it comes down to doing the job he does the minimum required. He left me with a paint job that looks like it will need to be redone before long. I paid cash -- almost 3k for two rooms, no ceilings. This was the bargain price we negotiated and I guess you get what you pay for. John kept me waiting. He did not respect my time. I can not recommend this company. John should spend less time on slick brochures and cards and more time on customer service. C-. read more

I am really bummed out about how things went with John. The work is good (not exceptional), but his attitude and communication skills really stink, and the attention to detail is sacrificed when they have other jobs to move on to. If you wanted to work with John, I think you will probably end up with a good paint job, but it may not be worth what it will take to get there and it will not be as great as he talks it up to be. They missed painting many spots of our new woodwork, many drip marks, several large hairs dried into wet paint, incomplete caulking in some spots -- just too much to explain away. John does not review his all of crew's work in detail to find areas that still need attention (only spot review)- that is your job as the customer!! Here are some selected specifics from my experience: - John was late to every single meeting we had by 30 minutes to an hour. Being late once or twice is completely understandable, but when it happens every time, it means you don't value of others' time. John refused to book our formal estimate and color consultation for the same day, because it wasn't convenient for him (but of course, it's no problem if we needed to miss work twice). - He clearly overbooks his crew and plans "to perfection." This forces his crew to rush through the work and does not allow for sufficient attention to detail. For example, for two of our rooms, he had his crew apply two coats of paint to our walls and new woodwork in the same day. A small amount of woodwork was actually primed and received both coats of paint in the same day. He said they apply a second coat as soon as it is dry to the touch, and there is no need to allow additional dry time before recoating (despite the manufacturer's directions). He said the manufacturer's directions are written by lawyers. Ok, but...why does he have long articles on his website about how important it is to apply paint in accordance with the manufacturer's directions? If I am doing my own painting, I might decide to apply two coats in one day, but that is not cool if I am paying top dollar to a pro, and certainly not cool when he talks such a big game about his great his work is and how he carefully follows all the directions. - Lack of detailed care: E.g., John's crew removed brand new solid brass pull knobs from our bifold closet doors and stored them in a ziploc bag with our light switch plates, screws, and a couple tools. The knobs are now all scratched up after being tossed around in a bag with other items that have sharp metal edges.This is so frustrating after I repeatedly asked John (in email and by phone) to carefully tape off our brand new door hardware, day after day finding hardware that was not taped off and now had paint on it. - On about 5 different days, I brought up small issues I thought should be fixed, e.g., drip marks left in prominent areas, or small areas that were primed but not painted. John did not agree to fix those issues (because...he already booked his crew for another job!), but repeatedly told me I had up to one year to call him and have him do "touch ups." He only agreed to finish the job when on the last day we made clear we'd withhold a small payment amount until all the work was actually done. Then, after having his crew work until 8pm on a Friday night, he "did us a favor" by agreeing to have one painter return on Saturday to finish the work. What a prince! - Because John wasn't available to pick up his equipment on the last day of work, we had to hold quite a bit of his equipment over the weekend. Not very convenient when we wanted to put our bedroom back together. Naturally, he also failed to remove tarps from our furniture, move our furniture back into place, and dispose of the last of their garbage. - He recommended we paint the radiators the same color as our trim. I wanted them painted in the same color as our walls, so they would blend in a bit better. He replied that most people buy covers for their radiators. Ok, but we don't have covers and aren't sure if we want them or not. I repeated, I'd like to paint them the same color as our walls. He complained that he would then need to purchase additional quarts of paint. Oh, so the real problem is that it will cost him a little money! - John has his own ideas about what should be a "priority." For example, we have a walk-in pantry closet where his crew forgot to paint the edges of the inside door casing. When I brought this up, John said they'd fixed a ton of holes in the closet wall and really made it beautiful, and it was only the inside of a closet. Well, this is a closet that I will walk in and out of every day, and I will see the spot they forgot to paint, so I wanted to address the issue. John seems incapable of admitting fault in *anything* and thinks very, very highly of himself and his company's work. I needed a paint job done with a quick turn around and sent a 911 email to 6 friends in my neighborhood looking for a referral and 3 of them came back with JP Interiors. John was quick and understood my urgency. He came to my house that day for a consultation and gave me a detailed and professional price list a day later. He supplied all the paint for me because I didn't have time to pick it up myself and had a team here exactly at the time he said he would. The work was done in two days and he threw in some touch up areas for free. All and all I was happy with the job from PJ Interiors and would definitely pass on their name. read more

JP Interiors painted my entire house and did a terrific, extremely thorough job. I had a lot of bubbling and cracked paint previously. There were also areas of my walls that had been extremely damaged, with large holes in them, from a prior badly done electrical job. John Parker, the owner of JP Interiors, came and checked all damaged areas for possible lead paint. His crew quickly and seamlessly repaired the gaping holes in my walls. It is now impossible to tell where the holes were. They used special tape to permanently repair large cracks. John was very flexible in working with us to schedule the wall repair and painting of different rooms on different days so that we could comfortably live in the house while the work was on-going. His crew members were friendly and professional, taking pains to protect my wood floors and cleaning up thoroughly at the end of each day. The work has a one-year warranty. My house looks great and I highly recommend JP Interiors! read more
