Jesse Hayes is a brilliant carpenter. Unfortunately he knows just enough to get himself in trouble.
My advice when hiring Jesse is NEVER GIVE HIM A DEPOSIT, and never, EVER, pay in advance for work unfinished. He will promise you until the cows come home that he will do right by you. He will show up for a few hours at a time to try to pacify you.. and months later your project will not be complete. We are out tens and tens of thousands in overages and delays because of Jesse's mismanagement of large projects.
He is perfectly capable of gorgeous carpentry and absolutely stunning tile, and crisp paint (as long as you don't mind cleaning up dramatic levels of overspray on your windows and floors). Which makes this review a frustrating one to leave. In our tenure with Jesse he was hired as the contractor for two of my design clients; both of them were highly disappointed with the process in general, and time frames for each more than tripled.
We also hired him for 3 major renovations. The first went a month or so long, then each of the last two that went 8-10 months and tens and tens of thousands over his estimates.
The bottom line is that Jesse's ego gets him in over his head. He is a highly qualified carpenter (all wood work) and tile installer. Flooring tile, kitchen backsplashes, decks, trim, doors, mantles... you will be very happy with his precision. But beyond that, do not let him tell you he can do your plumbing, electrical, structural, or ANY project that has a month or more timeline, or is over $10k. His estimates will be off and it will cost you dearly.
He also does not pay sub-contractors or employees. HIRE ON YOUR OWN if they are even willing to work with him. None of our brilliant professional subs are willing to work with him anymore. Hire with confidence for small carpentry and single rooms. But, painful as this is to write, despite immense talent, HIRE AT YOUR OWN RISK for anything major. read more
