This was my first time at the J Christopher's in Athens, and I really enjoyed it. We got the chocolate pancakes and the sausage and egg dish. Both were great. Our server was exceedingly friendly and very quick, so big kudos to that as well. The reason I opted for four stars instead of five was because I thought the quality and originality of food was pretty average for the cost. J Christophers advertises themselves as your neighborhood run of the mill type of breakfast place, which they are. Their prices, however, are on par with a lot of Athens' fancier breakfast joints. Aside from being a bit overpriced though I enjoyed it.

Very spacious with plenty of tables and even a bar. A very warm welcome from our hostess. Easy to read menus. The whole menu is available from 7-2pm. I ordered the hot chocolate and it was too sweet for my taste but that's just me. Our order was taken in a timely manner and we were given great suggestions on what was good. Everything was good especially their country potatoes and maple toast. We'll be back.

For the area this is a great breakfast and lunch place. Although the corned beef hash tasted like it came from a can. The potatoes weren't anything to get excited about. The waffle was okay but also nothing really good. Cracker Barrel is better but if you just want something local this is a nice place with friendly customer service.

Food wasn't that good at all both of the biscuits that I ordered were RAW and food was just not good, but the service was pretty good and the waiters were pretty attentive. I normally have a decent experience but it was lacking a lot today.

Tried this place and it was a little underwhelming. I wanted a waffle with strawberry topping and saw they had something similar on their menu. If you want a waffle be prepared to buy any other items a la carte because the waffle comes with absolutely no sides. No bacon. No eggs. Nothing. I don't understand why breakfast places do this because who is just eating one singular waffle for breakfast with no sides? Everything else on the menu seemed to come with at least breakfast potatoes or grits. Strange. My boyfriend got the ham & mushroom skillet with a pancake on the side. Refer to the pictures because it was as bland as it looked, very little seasoning. Overall we probably wouldn't return as we could've cooked a better and cheaper breakfast at home.

I've been to J. Christopher's three times already and I'm a creature of habit, so I feel like I have a good idea of the quality of some of the menu items by now. I ordered one of the skillets with a sunny-side up egg as well as a mocha. The skillet was a bit on the oily side but it was still flavorful and they gave us a good amount of food for the price. The mocha, on the other hand, was not at all good. It was more milk than anything; there was barely any coffee in it and even though it looked like there was chocolate syrup in it, there was no discernable taste other than milk. For the price, you'd be better off grabbing a mocha (or any of their flavored coffee drinks for that matter) from a local coffee store or Starbucks. Aside from the food, the service was great! I definitely will stop by again for breakfast, but I'll probably grab my coffee elsewhere.

Breakfast here is one of our regulars. Large menu & good food. Quick service. Food 3/5 Food : 3/5 We like the eggs Benedict and the smoky cheese grits. The pancake serving is large. If you don't like a big breakfast combo, you can order a la carte. They have vegetarian entrees. They can accommodate several people in a group. Beverages are kept full. Service: 5/5 Servers are experienced and pleasant and try to accommodate any special requests The manager comes out and checks on the vibe Facility 4/5 SIMPLE DECOR, clean roomy With booths and tables-they will move tables to accommodate groups. Location: 2/5. The actual location is fairly convenient, on a main thoroughfare, near a crossroad, near other nice restaurants , a book store, and a market. HOWEVER, their main shortcoming is also their location, because there are few parking spaces. They do have some reserved spaces in front of their strip of businesses, and if those are full you can park behind the fire station nearby and walk about a block Price: 4/5 Consistent with similar restaurants in the area

It was a really good breakfast. Hard for anybody to get 5 stars for breakfast unless they inventing new food! I would come back here again.

Nice atmosphere and decent coffee. However, the food is only okay. I'd just skip this one and go to IHOP.

That said, fight the traffic and construction weirdness and get your butt in here. I had the georgia peach French toast plate with eggs and bacon. Definitely the best French toast I've had in a long time. One (albeit minor) issue - they said they do "soft scrambled" eggs, but they came out pretty much regular. This is a common issue with pretty much every breakfast restaurant I go to, so no removal of a star. But I'd recommend you tell waitstaff that you don't do soft scrambled if you really don't. Thus is my pain when recounting our visit to Mama's Boy. We stopped here for breakfast before heading out of town on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in September. Prior to visiting, I read that the wait here can be a bit intimidating but we lucked out coming on a day when there was an away football game which I think took some folks out of town as we only had to wait about 20-25 minutes. It's a casual joint where you order at the counter (but only after you've been given a table) and the food is bangin'. I was not playing it healthy here, going for the Truck Stop Biscuits & Gravy which was a biscuit topped with sausage gravy, sweet tea brined fried chicken, and topped with scrambled eggs. For my side I went with grits (because when in the south!) and of course I had a refreshing strawberry lemonade to wash it all down with. Everything was excellent. The biscuit was fluffy, the chicken was juicy, the gravy was flavorful...and it was all perfect together. And the grits were so rich and smooth and so very tasty! It was casual service but everyone who we encountered was really lovely. Bless the mama's boys of the world for bringing us such a delicious dining experience!

The food: I went with the Fried Chicken Blue Plate. Between the regular and the Nashville Hot, the Nashville was the winner--flavorful and moist without being overwhelming with the spice. Huge shoutout to my server for suggesting the brussel sprouts; that glaze is incredible and they were easily my favorite part of the plate. The mashed sweet potatoes were unique--I'm still debating if I liked them or loved them. The jalapeño cornbread was a bit sweet for my taste but on par with most restaurant cornbread. The mac & cheese wasn't bad, but also didn't do much for me like most restaurant mac & cheese. The cocktail: Do not sleep on Nana's Naissance. I wasn't sure what to expect from the ingredients, but it's like an elevated take on Rumchata. The service: I was seated at the bar and experienced a noticeable delay--a group that arrived well after me almost finished their meal before mine arrived. However, the waitress acknowledged the wait before I even had to mention it and made things right. I really appreciate that kind of proactive service. We're all human, and they handled the situation very professionally.

NOTE TO SELF: DO NOT PICK FLYING BISCUIT! They do NOT have gluten free anything. Last visit, 9…read moremonths ago, I chose to eat gluten. I do that sometimes when I just can't decide but I pay for it for about a week. I don't try to do that anymore. lol I did notice many similarities so the sweet gluten must be what is good there. I consider all that processed sugar and the gluten filled garbage GMO flours to be horrible for our bodies. That happens as you learn how these foods actually affect your body and DIS-EASE! Now, I am weeding out the restaurants I will no longer eat at. If you don't care about the wellbeing of your customer's health, then you only care about $$$! I will no longer be eating at establishments that don't use quality ingredients and will focus more on Mom & Pop Locally owned places that do! These businesses need to do better so we aren't constantly sick and medicated beings! They have brainwashed us to eating garbage that other countries do not allow! The ONLY positive thing I can say is the hostess was on point! She was constantly working, bouncing around, handling things, completely pleasant with a smile on her face. She is the reason for 2* and not 1. She was the only 1! I'm only giving a description of her so she is recognized because I do not know her name. Cute dark skinned woman with her hair pulled back with a head band/wrap. She deserves a raise and employee of the month! Everyone else seemed pissy or too concerned with whatever gossip they had to chat about. Waitress literally said, "They just consider it gluten friendly by taking the bread off". Not even grits or potatoes are listed as "GF". Manager came out to explain why grits weren't GF. Idk why they try to appear "healthy". They offer alternatives to pork, but that's about it. Manager said the grits company doesn't claim to be GF so therefore they don't. Well, if the company isn't claiming it, they are most likely using the cheapest of the cheap GMO'd corn! Obviously, just my opinion, but I'm so tired of these restaurants charging so much for garbage food. Waitress is extremely pleasant! lol That is sarcasm for anyone not tracking. Brought the hubs unsweet tea when he ordered sweet! Lol Asked if we were ready to order 3x in less than 5 min while our heads were still down staring at the menus. Then, when we were ready, she was taking money for a guy at the bar, serving another table a beverage, and serving another table their food, while 3 other employees stood around a cleaning station chatting. An elderly gentleman and his caregiver came in but the hostess was outside for some reason. He sat himself at a dirty table. They ignored him until he started waving his arm at staff. I saw the interaction prior. 1 employee saw what he had done and told the others but they ignored the dirty table and the people until he got agitated. Then, they moved him to the table behind him, that they did clean while he was sitting there waiting to be acknowledged. We needed a quick bite in between Dr appts. I wish we had driven a bit further rather than coming here. I'm not hopeful for the cheese grits with turkey bacon I selected because nothing else was appealing and wouldn't destroy my stomach. Guess I'll deal with inflammation today from the gmo corn. The hubs got an egg and cheese biscuit. She didn't ask him how he wanted his eggs cooked or what kind of cheese. It's a mystery what he will get lol. Yes! I am writing this while sitting here! lol It's been 10+ minutes since the old man moved tables and the table he sat at is STILL dirty with dishes. Waitress just came to inform us, after waiting 20 minutes already, that they put pork bacon in my grits so it's going to be a few more minutes. I'm confused??? Why is my husband's food not being brought out? That means his is sitting back there waiting on my GRITS! Come on! 5 more minutes and the results???? Absolutely the most disgusting thing I've ever seen brought out. Check out the picture! lol what on earth is that even? Tasted like generic cheese soup dumped on top of a tiny bowl of semi good grits with half a slice of bacon cut up in it. They called that "Loaded" grits. Lol It was disgusting and those grits are NOT creamy or dreamy! They are so cheap they don't even get the GF tag. lol The hubs biscuit was horribly dry, so little egg you couldn't see it, and the "moon dusted" potatoes tasted like yesterday's home fries, with no dusting or even salt. Quite literally the worst food and service I have seen in a long time! Watched 2 servers NOT sit a family with a girl on crutches, waiting for the hostess to finish dealing with a to-go order. It was like no one helps anyone in there and the customer is last on the priority list!
